I'm usually a Christmas lover... and I am looking forward to Christmas it self but I'm really struggling with gift buying this year.

We have a lot of people to buy for and I just can't seem to decide what to get anyone! I don't have loads of time to just wander aimlessly around the shops.
I usually enjoy gift buying but it all just seems such a waste!!
We are mostly adults, we buy what we want when we want to do just buying for buying sakes.

So anyway can anyone think of a generic gift we can just buy people. I remember one year my Aunt bought everyone an Alexa, so something like that? I was thinking of an Apple air tag as bough DH one for his birthday as he is forever losing his wallet!
But not everyone is as disorganised as my DH!

Any ideas? At all, it's mostly couples so anything that could be a "couples" gift?

adoreyou · 26/11/2021 20:18

Could question, I suppose £20pp or £40 per couple

A bit late for you, but I keep a running list of things people mention they like/want etc throughout the year then pick something for Christmas.

How about: chargeable battery packs for phones? Luxury candles? Photo Frames? Better yet, Polaroid camera?

BrieAndChilli · 26/11/2021 20:23

Aldi milk frother with some packs of nice coffee

LastStarFighter · 26/11/2021 20:24

Wine is usually well received 😊

justthecat · 26/11/2021 20:30

Do a secret Santa and just share it out

17caterpillars1mouse · 26/11/2021 20:57

Buy every couple a decent sized house plant and pot

RKid · 26/11/2021 21:08

Hampers with bits in - biscuits, chocs, wine, a candle. You could just buy the same bits for all so saves multiple shops or thinking outside the box and you can find hamper baskets online/in some stores to DIY.

Tell them you're tired of the commercialism of Christmas, worried about the environment and you're not doing presents any more. Then buy yourself whatever you want with all the money you've saved.

ShowOfHands · 26/11/2021 21:15

I just had to Google wtf an apple air tag is! I guess they only work for people who have an iPad or iPhone? Most of my family use Android so wouldn't want one.

I'd also steer clear of wine. Again, not everybody drinks.

We do a secret santa with family which makes life so much easier. Maybe suggest that from next year onwards.

My MIL bought a time limited magazine subscription for everybody once. That was well received as she'd got something to suit each person.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 26/11/2021 21:17

I would do something consumable if these couples generally buy what they want. So a crate of wine or maybe a cheese hamper? Or something like restaurant vouchers?

Escape room board game

This. You say yourself that your just buying for buying's sake and it's all such a waste.

Disgustingly wasteful and it needs to stop. Your relatives will probably thank you for stepping off the merry go round.

Beecham · 26/11/2021 21:25

Exactly. People just need to stop buying STUFF. The planet is fucked and we're just pretending it's not happening.

Fritilleries · 26/11/2021 21:26

Don't buy anything. Send a card. Sorted. They'll not be silly enough to whinge are they?

Whatwouldnanado · 26/11/2021 21:28

Cinema vouchers

GoodnightGrandma · 26/11/2021 21:28

I think it’s a bit late to say you’re not buying now, that’s a conversation to have before next year.
But I’d get a reusable shopping bag and fill it with nibbles, biscuits, wine etc

Santaischeckinglists · 26/11/2021 21:29

Costa vouchers.

It's not even December. Why does it need to be a conversation?
GoodnightGrandma · 26/11/2021 21:53

Because other people might have already bought for them.

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 26/11/2021 22:13

I would go with cinema vouchers and a bag of sweets/posh popcorn per couple.

Or vouchers for a restaurant or somewhere they can go for drinks.

Or as a previous person suggested a milk frother and hot chocolate or coffee/syrups. We love ours for lattes and hot chocolate.

A game?

A nice potted plant.

adoreyou · 26/11/2021 22:18

We have done secret santas in previous years and it's fallen by the way side.

We've also said don't buy for us.... falls on deaf ears! And we end up feeling awful because we haven't bought anything and they have!
But yes next year we will not be doing it just fed up with it.
I have so much crap In my house already I just don't need any more!

It's very difficult to just give a card when you all gather on Xmas day to celebrate.

So this is why I at least wanted to buy something useful! But I can see we will just end up Primark buying cheap bits that no one really cares for.....

OP posts:
loveablequalities · 26/11/2021 22:30

Consumables. Lovely coffee, olive oil, chocolate, biscuits, cheese, preserves etc. Go quality over quantity. Go local over mainstream. No one wants random STUFF from Primark or wherever. Or vouchers. If you don't enjoy picking specific things then don't do it.

adoreyou · 26/11/2021 22:34

I agree about food/hampers etc we have done that before.... but always comes to a lot more then what you think!

But will look into what we can get.... I just want it all done. One day of shopping everything bought... sorted!
