13 yo DD has asked for a bottle of Dior perfume for Christmas.....

BaconAndAvocado · 23/11/2021 14:56

.......to which I replied a firm No.

I’ve bought her a bottle of Nina Ricci. A third of the price.

One of my friends however didn’t think there was anything wrong in this.

To me, she’s far too young for something like this.

Like most of her friends, she does wear a bit of make up but obviously nothing high end.

Thoughts?

If you can afford it then yes .my dd loved ghost perfume at that age .if pricey maybe get her some but maybe just a couple of small gifts as well

FreeBritnee · 25/11/2021 17:06

Ha ha. What else have I said. Go on read all my posts back to me baby?

Oftenithinkaboutit · 25/11/2021 17:07

Just those three enough

Asking about perfume scent
Complaining about your lip fillers
Celebrating your cheek filler

Priceless

Naughtynovembertree · 25/11/2021 17:48

Pleasant birthday that's very true, Mil always undermined dh choices.
**@EyesAsGreenAsAFreshPickledToad* @thisplaceisweird*

It's not sad.

I've not bought a bottle of perfume in well over a decade and have far more important things to spend what little money I have on.

No-one else buys it for me either, partly because partner of 7yrs has never bought me anything, not even a bunch of flowers and because I can't see the point of perfume.
Not liking perfume is fine but that’s really sad about your partner. I’m not materialistic but I don’t think I would stay with someone who didn’t bother doing anything at Christmas or my birthday after all that time. As they say it’s the thought that counts, and it still counts that there is no thought Sad

@Oftenithinkaboutit

And it gets better!

@FreeBritnee

Waffling on about Capitalism

On previous threads

Youve asked what someone thinks about a particular perfume as you find “celeb ones a bit sweet

You’ve had lip filler

And cheek fillers

The hypocrisy!!!

Sounds like FreeBritnee’s been robbed through the internet by influencers. Capitalism at its worst.
Gilly12345 · 25/11/2021 22:41

I think you have wasted your money buying a different perfume just because it is cheaper.

Set your budget and if the majority of the money is spent on the perfume then she will learn the value of money and receive the perfume of her choice.

ThereWeAreThen79 · 26/11/2021 00:44

I've just seen people on Vinted selling unwanted Miss Dior giftsets and bottles.
Also Aldi's E1 perfume is supposed to be a dupe. 🤷🏿‍♀️

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 26/11/2021 07:10

@titchy

Isn't Nina ricci rather errrr old for her? As in something her grandmother might wear...?
They have very cleverly diversified and refreshed the brand with some pretty bottles and scents for younger audience. It’s Les Belles de Ricci lines.
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 26/11/2021 07:11

Miss Dior is rank.

It’s what used to be amiss Dior Cherie with then replaced/usurped the real vintage Miss Dior.

AuntieStella · 26/11/2021 07:14

You can still get the vintage Miss Dior, but you have to check carefully that you are buying the right one.

I really hate the new version, and that the name of one of my all-tile favourite scents has been appropriated to a different smell.

I do think that, like mist scents, it's got less strong. Original Poisin is not what it was, though Rive Gauche is still OK

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 26/11/2021 07:20

Other Stories do beautiful perfumes.

Zara do lovely perfumes.

They are so much better and more fun than Miss Dior.
Poor girl indeed, but I feel she is that because she bought into the label con from such an young age.

NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 26/11/2021 07:30

@Kanaloa

Why is she too young for an expensive perfume but old enough for a cheap one? I would understand something like refusing to buy a young child makeup because she’s too young but I don’t get the logic of her being too young for the one she wanted but old enough for a cheaper one you chose.
Because the scent of more expensive/adult perfumes are designed for adult women to smell like adult women. She's 13, she doesn't need to smell like an adult woman, there are plenty of perfumes aimed at young teenagers that smell young & fresh...

Poor kid doesn't need to smell like everyone's Nan either!!

However, very conveniently she's changed her mind 🙄& I'm sure she'll be absolutely thrilled to smell like her mum😫

rainrainraincamedowndowndown · 26/11/2021 07:37

My first perfume was Diorissimo, when I was 13. I am thinking of buying my dc13 a perfume too, this year.

MrsMargaretBeaufort · 26/11/2021 07:44

I actually bought a set of mini Dior perfumes for my DD when she was 13 - on request from duty free.

I dont see the issue with it unless you can't afford it

RoseAndRose · 26/11/2021 08:06

The sets of minis are, I think, a good idea for circumstances such as this. They're tiny bottles, but still look good no guve the recipient a chance to try them out, and find one theyreally like.

Branding /marketing with scent is rather different to the other faces of capitalism. For here is a product which cannot be assessed by appearances, which varies between individuals and their skin; and which therefore needs to be tried out, but only maybe four of which can be tried at a tine without getting sensory overload.
So it's extra important to get your scent to be one of the four testers that are picked up and sprayed onto skin. And that is done by appearance of the product, its reputation and current covetability - the latter two needing to be advanced by advertising (literal and product placement/endorsement)

mowglika · 26/11/2021 08:15

I get it OP, I didn’t buy more expensive brands of perfume until I was older. I made do with pharmacy brands at that age, didn’t do any harm Grin

I would ask her to chose a perfume that was cheaper though, rather than choose something myself, perfume is such a personal thing, she won’t wear it if she doesn’t like the smell.

What is an “adult woman”’s smell? Grin

oakleaffy · 28/11/2021 13:11

If your DD really wants it, and you can afford it, why not?

nomoneytreehere · 28/11/2021 14:13

Thanks for the thread. I've got a 13 year old and think I might get her a bottle of Miss Dior!

Usernamerequired · 03/12/2021 21:15

I was drenched in Body Shop White Musk at that age! The smell of it is instant nostalgia
