What's still played with from last year?

I always like these posts....I find it really useful to know the age of the child and which presents were such a hit that they're still played with a year later....?

For us, my DS (now 8) still wears his Liverpool kit at every opportunity, and the nerf gun target still comes out fairly regularly.

Looking at last year's list, nothing I bought DD(now nearly 6) is still played with regularly....

Perhaps others could share their hits and misses for inspiration?

DD10 is still playing with every barbie set purchased for the past five Christmas’.

Authenticcelestialmusic · 16/11/2021 21:44

I bought dd now age 5 a large adult set of colouring pencils in a case, it has around 120 colours. They are used every week. She carefully returns them after every use. They are in number order! Well worth the £30 as she loves them.
Ds kindle is used regularly (I download 99p deal of the day books).
Melissa and Doug pizza parlour and ice cream stall, used by all of them most weeks.

Authenticcelestialmusic · 16/11/2021 21:46

Sorry forgot to write Ds is 8

Timetoeat · 16/11/2021 22:28

My son was 2,now 3.
He still plays with his
Melissa and Doug ice cream parlour, Spiderman dress up
Kinetic sand set

Sprogonthetyne · 16/11/2021 22:38

Melissa and doug reusable sticks have lasted well with my now 5yo, £3.50 well spent. Kid k'nex and a cheap flower building kit also still come out regularly.

curtains15 · 16/11/2021 22:45

8 and 6yo ds still play with their hot wheels cars and recently got the hot wheels tracks out again and would like more for xmas.
nerf guns get played with every so often too.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 16/11/2021 22:47

DS was 12 last year, now 13…still uses all his gaming bits like the headphones, and the keyboard and mouse, and his electric guitar. Still wears the clothes he got too including football shirt, tracksuit and his onesie!

DD is now 9 and fairly predictably doesn’t really play with her Kiddi Superstar microphone thing she so desperately wanted! I suspected it was a bit young for her at the time but it was top of her list! I didn’t mind too much as I’m sure her little sister will use it too. She still loves her Fimo…although it’s not the same set as it’s been used up and replaced several times! And the onesie and other clothes still get worn. And roller blades are loved.

DD2 is 3 now and has outgrown some of the character stuff she loved last year but still loves her Duplo! I bought her some Sylvanian Family stuff last year too and that gets played with loads by both girls.

ninjashark · 16/11/2021 22:51

DD (2) got a dolls house last Christmas and it's been played with every day since.
Duplo sets and stickle bricks get played with quite a lot too.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 16/11/2021 22:54

Oh and board games! Genius Square is brilliant and the cards games like exploding kittens and taco cat goat cheese pizza!

DockOTheBay · 16/11/2021 22:54

Well I can tell you what is not played with and that's the wobble board and crazy expensive grapat rings and coins that my friends told me were really great for toddlers.

My 4.5 year old plays with pretty much everything but especially her yoto player. It goes through phases but there are times when she listens to it almost constantly.
Also popular are marble run, playdoh barber shop and playmobil zoo which was actually from 2 Christmases ago.

2 yo absolutely loves her bonikka baby doll and plays with that loads.

They both get a lot of use out of Melissa and Doug show horses, the doorbell house and vet set. I love their range.

DockOTheBay · 16/11/2021 22:56

Melissa and Doug pizza parlour and ice cream stall, used by all of them most weeks
Good to know! I've got mine these this year 😁

Crumblinginside · 16/11/2021 22:57

My ds are 6 and 7 and still love their hot wheels cars (never bother with the garage) just the actual cars

Also build a bear and funnily enough the youngest has gone back to duplo even though we've loads of real lego

The craft stuff got loads of use too

Crumblinginside · 16/11/2021 22:57

The best present we got a few years back were trunkies! Still in great use

CoodleMoodle · 16/11/2021 22:59

DD(7) borrowed/stole my Staedtler triplus felt tip pens last year, so we got her more for Christmas. She still uses them most days and keeps them perfectly arranged in her pencil case. I've just had to buy her a box of the black ones because she used all the ink in hers.

DS(3) was and is obsessed with all things Hot Wheels. They never go wrong with him. He got loads last year and he plays with them every day.

And the most universally loved present is the white&blackboard DD got for Christmas when she was 3. They both use it practically every day, especially the whiteboard. We've had to replace the pens several times but the board is still going strong!

TheOnlyMrsM · 16/11/2021 23:03

The Toniebox, Tonies, carrycase and headphones have been used every single day since last Christmas and are still going strong. More Tonies are on the list for this year.

thismeansnothing · 16/11/2021 23:05

DD (now 2.5) a football and happyland farm set

DD (now 9.5) CD player/DAB radio and all the CDs she's aquired before Christmas last year and through this year. Also rock painting set. I'm forever topping up with more rocks

stacedyer · 16/11/2021 23:22

Doll house has been used for 4 years - it now houses barbies which are played with everyday along with various barbie vehicles.

Stompythedinosaur · 17/11/2021 00:55

Colouring books and nice ones have stood the test of time here. Hoverkart still gets used weekly ish. Harry Potter lego sets have remained built as decorations, and get occasional play.

Stompythedinosaur · 17/11/2021 00:56

Oh, and the wireless headphones, they get used every day.

OddshoesOddsocks · 17/11/2021 01:30

Dd aged 9 now 10 got a chrome book which proved invaluable over lockdown and has been used every day along with the gaming headphones she got with it.

Dd age 5 now 6 got playmobil and playdoh which has had very regular use and is on this years list too.

Dd aged 8 months now 18 months got a singing flashing rocking unicorn that she adores and took to immediately. A play tent that would have much more regular use if I could be arsed getting it out more and those squeaky eggs in an egg box that get endless use!

Hexenhaus · 17/11/2021 08:22

DD9 uses her projector lamp, but not camera, magic set or the Barbie's she asked for (very specific ones I had to search and pay more for), FIMO and aqua beads still used and topped up regularly. DD4 who I thought was too young for Barbie's last Christmas plays with her sisters ones every day. The baby dolls are still played with by both girls. They both got an Our generation doll that looks like them but both tend to dress them and leave them on the shelf. DD4 didn't play with the massive car garage with ramp, but she does play with the cars most days, especially the character ones like the die cast paw patrol ones, and the ones with faces from a TV show she loves-even though they were a really cheap pack and we often have to glue the faces back on when the paper comes off in the bath.

Roller skates were a mistake for both of them especially DD4, they are not getting the skate boards they've asked for this year!

yoshiblue · 17/11/2021 08:28

The board games - Machi Koro, Sushi Go, King of Tokyo

Also a battery powered Lego train.

Best book was DK Timeline of Everything book

yoshiblue · 17/11/2021 08:28

He's 8 BTW so same age as your son.

Guineaguinea · 17/11/2021 08:52

Now 11 year old, wobble board, lego, good art materials and trionimos game have been played with long term. A subscription to the week junior is read every time. A keyboard is used as a space to put things so not been worth it.
Now 6 year old, lego, playmobil and wobble board are all used regularly, along with decent colouring pens. Sylvanian families and lottie/barbie dolls not so much.

MrsWooster · 17/11/2021 09:07

Now 8 and 11: both really like the led strip lights which are used every day. Same with Bluetooth speakers (11 uses an old ipod, though he has a Phone, 8 uses an old iPhone 5 with no SIM card as music player /camera). Watercolour pens were a big hit -more with 8 than 11.
