What's still played with from last year?

I always like these posts....I find it really useful to know the age of the child and which presents were such a hit that they're still played with a year later....?

For us, my DS (now 8) still wears his Liverpool kit at every opportunity, and the nerf gun target still comes out fairly regularly.

Looking at last year's list, nothing I bought DD(now nearly 6) is still played with regularly....

Perhaps others could share their hits and misses for inspiration?

A toy kitchen and a toy shop (dd is 3)

flower11 · 17/11/2021 13:34

Mine are 9 and 6 the box of duplo they have had from toddler age is still played with. The lego sets we have brought eldest are shoved in cupboard unplayed with.
Magformers have been a big hit, played with loads over the last 2 years.

The Hape Space Ship was my Best Buy ever for a 2 1/2 year old. I was swithering over a dolls house but we’ve got one he can play with at his granny’s so wanted something similar but different. Still going strong 2 years later and I’m sure we’ll get another few years out of it.

Earwigworries · 17/11/2021 16:49

Laser x was a good one - bought 2/3 years ago as a surprise and last played with in the summer - kids 11/13

DS8 Ticket to ride Europe DS2 the Leapfrog Ice cream cart

DelurkingAJ · 17/11/2021 17:51

DSs now 5 and 9.

Lego, all the Lego, both of them. DS1 his England cricket top, Asterix books and Ticket to Ride. DS2 still plays Paw Patrol (to my astonishment) with the vehicles he received and Labyrinth was an enormous hit (I’d really recommend it as a family board game).

TheYearOfSmallThings · 17/11/2021 18:04

The giant inflatable globe, Minecraft Lego, roller skates and (of course) tablet have been and continue to be in constant use with DS(6). The Super Things had a good run, but are now ignored. The Razor sparks scooter was much used until it got destroyed (I don't blame the product).

Tumblebee, Fartbro, Dobble, Meccano and a Hot wheels track thing that took up loads of space and needed constant adjustment really never got much use.

My 5 year old was given a set of magna tiles by valtech, she and my 2 year old still enjoy playing and building with them .
Also a wooden doll house mini kitchen withi mini appliances.

DD’s (now 6 & 8) both use their ipads, 6 still spends lots of time playing with the barbies, Barrie dream house and her shleich horses (bought more this year) 8 still spends lots of time with her felt tips, kinetic sand and Spirograph.

Things that were never bothered with were ourgeneration doll, reborn dolls and the pram but I’m holding onto them in case they grow into them (it was a silver cross pram and was a brilliant fb marketplace bargain so it ready to part with it)

Solasum · 17/11/2021 18:42

DS8: brio(!), roller skates, Lego, Playmobil, whoopie cushion, road signs, Labyrinth, Uno, Cluedo, Rummikub

coffeepleeease · 17/11/2021 19:49

DD(5) still adores her Octonauts figures and I've got her the Octopod this year. Also still plays with her toy cot and high chair

chillimice · 17/11/2021 20:34

DD10 hits:
Our generation wheelchair Hmm
Watercolour set but not an everyday thing
Noise cancelling headphones used every day
Really soft blanket - played with/used every day
Total dud: Instax camera, despite begging for it she prefers using an old phone and my sprocket

sittingonacornflake · 17/11/2021 20:48

orangetriangle · 17/11/2021 20:54

2 years ago I made my ds (now 8) a potions kit using a vintage wooden first aid box, old bottles, science flasks, pipettes etc and food colouring, white vinegar and bicarbonate of soda. I used this website for inspiration. He played with it for hours on Christmas Day and still uses it loads.

Anothernamechange3 · 17/11/2021 21:04

Oh I found the old scales that are on the website on eBay too. He loves them.

sohypnotic · 17/11/2021 21:23

DD, now 4, still plays with from last year:
Lottie dolls (daily)
Paw patrol figures (daily)
Marble run
Shopping trolley / till

And from the year before:
Toy kitchen/food
Baby doll/ highchair/ pram
Happyland figures

BigGreen · 17/11/2021 21:29

Ages 3 and 7: duplo and Lego, craft

Honeymint · 17/11/2021 21:39

More of a ‘big kid’ gift but!
Our town was in full lockdown for Christmas last year so I bought DH an Oculus Quest 2 VR headset so he could ‘hang out with’ his friends. He’s still having fun with it.

Maybe a bit of an OTT gift for smaller kids but I’d recommend it for teens and above!

FootieMama · 18/11/2021 12:34

Hit: Keyboard. Bought tiny one when DS was 5. Now he is a teenager and the keyboard has been upgraded twice. Used almost every day.
Table tennis set that clips above dinner table three years ago. Very cheap but still used all the time.
Miss: Professional drawing set: pencils, charcoal, etc. Was only used a couple of times. Bought after art teacher convinced me he had talent for art. He is no interested at allConfused

PineappleWilson · 18/11/2021 12:48

If they have them this year, the £2 moon lamps from Poundland. The 2 year old uses hers as a night light and her secondary age sibling uses theirs on their desk. Decent back up present for "oh, I've been invited to X's party tomorrow" too, if you're not sure what to get them.

Iseeyoulookingatme · 18/11/2021 14:02

Apart from the computer games the following have been used consistently by ds 8.
Sharpies
Craft supplies
Hot wheels cars and tracks
Nerf guns

sunshineandrain82 · 18/11/2021 17:41

Dd8 is still playing with barbie brought over years as is with Lego.
Ds4 still plays with paw patrol
Dd1 still plays with empty boxes
Dsd13 still does her drawings and plays on the Xbox we brought.

However the younger ones don't really touch the electronics brought over the years including things like the switch
