Christmas... I know it's far too early, but..

... I've put my tree up! It was delivered today and I just thought I'd see what it's like, but decided, what the hell, I'm keeping it up. I usually put my tree up on 1st December, but it cheered me up so much that I'm keeping it up! We all need something to make us smile, and this makes me smile. Picture attached if anyone is interested. I doubt anyone else is as premature as me, but if you are, please share your tree pics x

Why are so many people putting up Xmas trees and decorations so early this year? Seen loads doing it a house near me is completely decorated already

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 08/11/2021 17:47

@Missatkins might be an idea to report your OP to MNHQ and ask them to move this to the Christmas topic for you. Otherwise you’ll just have a thread of people getting on your case about how it’s far too early.

Your tree is very pretty.🎄

ComtesseDeSpair · 08/11/2021 17:48

Ooh, is it pre-lit? Where was it from if so?

I’m not going to give you grief for having it up so early Smile Think of it not as a Christmas tree but a winter tree, and align yourself with the pre-Christian practice of celebrating light and comfort and bringing it into your hearth at a cold and dark time of year.

TurnUpTurnip · 08/11/2021 17:48

I’m not getting at op just wondering why, genuinely curious as it’s the earliest I’ve ever seen people put them up but everyone seems to be doing it this year like straight after Halloween the Christmas trees are going up!

Thethreecs · 08/11/2021 17:51

It's beautiful and I love it, but fuck!! it's waaaaaay too early.

Where did you buy it?

DroopyClematis · 08/11/2021 17:53

I LOVE Christmas but putting trees and decorations up now would make me want to rip it all down on Boxing Day, if not before.

I like Christmas to feel special so weeks of it up would , in my opinion, lessen that specialness ( if that's even a word.)

As long as your immediate family are on board with it then great.

Lovely tree, by the way.

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 08/11/2021 17:54

@TurnUpTurnip it wasn’t directed at you, promise - just a general comment.

I think a lot of people had difficult Christmases last year and they might be extra excited to start the season this year because of that. I’m expecting to see some trees up in the windows on our street in the next couple of weeks going by what some people did last year...

My tree is going up somewhere around the middle of December because we’re going to have a real one, but the lights and the window decorations will be up on the 1st.

ComtesseDeSpair · 08/11/2021 17:56

We’ve all had a pretty shit couple of years, in the main. Some kind of collective acknowledgement of this, and that lights and decorations up can offer a bit of festivity and cheer, perhaps? Last year virtually everyone in my neighbourhood had their outdoor lights and decorations up by mid November, and it just made everything feel warmer and more hopeful, in a way, even knowing we were going to have months more awfulness ahead of us - and I’m not a Christmassy person at all (no Christmas decs up until after Thanksgiving, thems the rulez.)

DriftGames · 08/11/2021 18:13

Love it! I'm desperate to put mine up but I've a little bit of decorating to finish (one fucking strip of wallpaper left) and some accessories to hang then I'll pop it up probably the last weekend of November! DD's 2nd birthday is next week so we have loads of busy weekends coming up anyway, which helps me refrain from dragging it out already!

Enjoy & merry Christmas! Haloween Sad

DriftGames · 08/11/2021 18:13

Ignore the sad witch emoji I've no idea how that occurred Hmm

Yes, it's pre lit, which makes it so much easier to dress. It's a Balsam Hill tree which I bought from ebay x

Gorgeous tree ,but it's really early for the tree ,last year I think lots of people put the decs up early including me to cheer ourselves up ,but this year I'm waiting til December Smile

LadyCleathStuart · 08/11/2021 18:19

It's gorgeous but way too early. My birthday is at the end of November so to me they can't go up before that.

I have seen a lot up already locally though.

RisingSunn · 08/11/2021 18:22

I had never understood early Christmas decorations…but for some strange reason this year; I feel like joining in!

mrsm43s · 08/11/2021 18:24

It looks absolutely lovely, but its way too early! Mind you, we have a real tree, so if we put it up now it'd be nothing but twigs by Christmas day, so that might be influencing me!

IMO first weekend in December is the earliest acceptable date for decorations to go up and Christmas music to be played. November can be gently Christmassy in other ways - making the Christmas cake, making mincemeat, making Christmas pudding, pickling onions and making Christmas chutney etc.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 08/11/2021 18:30

It’s absolutely lovely op and very timesaving If it was new and you were getting it out of the box anyway to look at it Wink

Christmas is going to be on acid this year after last years debacle. All the adverts are early - they usually start after armistice day

MondayYogurt · 08/11/2021 18:32

Whatever gives you happiness in these bleak days should be celebrated. A little early cheer is fine by me.

RestingStitchFace · 08/11/2021 18:40

I normally have a rule that it has to be December but last year I was so hacked off due to the pandemic, I cracked and put it up on November 27th.

Looks lovely, OP. Can't beat a beautiful Cmas tree.

Lovely tree, by the way.

I live on my own and work from home so needed to cheer the place up. Also, I don't get many visitors so don't really have to worry about what friends and family think 😂

This thread has now found its rightful place in the Christmas Topic. Xmas Smile Xmas Smile

ohtwatbollocks · 08/11/2021 19:06

Looks lovely OP. And it doesn't matter if it's too early for some, they're not in charge of your house luckily, they don't like it this early they don't put theirs up this early :)

Notaroadrunner · 08/11/2021 19:10

If I lived alone I'd put the tree up now. I do get away with putting it up at the end of November though, so that's not too bad. If Dh had his way it wouldn't go up until 23rd December.

Aderyn21 · 08/11/2021 19:18

I think it’s beautiful and you should do whatever makes you happy. If I didn’t have cats, mine would be up early too

Vebrithien · 08/11/2021 19:18

We've had a couple of awful years (2019 was pretty crap here too), so in January, when I couldn't face taking away all of the pretty lights, DH said I could keep a few sets up around the house.
If I hadn't already been married to him, I'd have married him for the suggestion. It's made such a positive impact on my mood. Especially at DH has usually been a bit of a Grinch.

This year, we've agreed to wait until after Remembrance Sunday (seems respectful, especially as DD is learning all about it at school), and then we'll gently add decorations. Not sure when we'll do the tree, but it's such an innocent joy.

You keep your tree up, and enjoy it. I can also recommend 'Scentsicles' to hang in the branches, to add that fresh cut tree scent.

Slub · 08/11/2021 19:19

That's a beautiful tree 🌲
