Honestly haven’t got a clue other than buying her some fudge! What’s everyone getting for their mums of this age?

I’ve got my mum (71) a velvetiser, mini Ruby woo lipstick for her handbag and probably will get her a new top of some description.

What’s your mums hobbies/likes/dislikes?

GoodnightGrandma · 07/11/2021 18:09

I get my dad loads of nice things, like fruit in alcohol and `M&S biscuits, and make a hamper. I usually put a mulled wine and a gin or whisky too.

Poppets14 · 07/11/2021 18:12

My mums the same age I’m getting her ..
Miriam Margolyes New book
Diary and a calendar
Nightdress

Things I’ve got her previously
Foot spa
Voucher for us to have an afternoon tea
M&S voucher so she can buy some clothes
Voucher for reflexology
Theatre tickets
Dressing gown

Didiusfalco · 07/11/2021 18:14

So far I’ve got her an amaryllis bulb (keen gardener) I seriously need some inspiration.

EloiseBridgerton · 07/11/2021 18:16

She’s fussy and unwell which is making it hard! I always end up doing a little food hamper so trying to do something a bit different. A new nightie is a start though lol…thank you!

Magazine subscription? I got
My mum a good housekeeping one

GoodnightGrandma · 07/11/2021 18:18

What about a throw for her legs when she’s sat down. I like the ones with the ‘sheepskin’ lining.
Heated throws are often mentioned on here.

EloiseBridgerton · 07/11/2021 18:18

Think I’ve peaked as gave her tickets to see dick and angel in February as a random gift… should have waited to give them at Xmas!

My Mum (same age) always requests some good quality hand cream and a bottle of her favourite tipple for Christmas. I’ve also had successes with Turtle Doves wrist warmers and a lovely jigsaw puzzle. There’s also one or two particular authors that she loves so I look out for new books by them too. Quite generic, but gardening vouchers or theatre vouchers are well received.

dementedma · 07/11/2021 18:20

Mine is 86 so a subscription to Countryfile magazine, a fluffy cushion with arms for when shes sitting up in bed, and some biscuits in a nice tin. Will probably get a book too and a decent Sauternes!

GoodnightGrandma · 07/11/2021 18:21

The light up gin bottles from M&S are pretty.

Theforest · 07/11/2021 18:21

My mum is similar age. I will probably be getting her:

new throw/blanket to sit on the sofa with
boots from M&S
Photo calendar of kids
Nice chocs from M&S she likes
And a couple of other bits when I think of them!

MonkeyPuddle · 07/11/2021 18:22

I got my mum a ground coffee subscription one year, there’s loads of different types. Flowers, food, booze.

Elieza · 07/11/2021 18:25

Mine is also a similar age. She wants a button up dressing gown, winter weight, and a crossword magazine (Lovatts) subscription. She just bought herself grippy slippers. I will be keeping an eye on this thread for further inspiration.

I previously got her a bird station feeder thing with hooks and platforms to birdwatch.

Carrie76 · 07/11/2021 18:25

So far I’ve got her turtle doves fingerless gloves and a reading cushion from Dunelm. I’m also thinking of a tray for the arm of her chair,

Some lovely ideas here thank you. Think gloves, new boots, nicer slippers, nightie and sweets are the way to go. Trying to work out what she has that is looking at bit old (she’s frugal!) thank you

And a new hot water bottle! Just thought of that!

My mum will be 74 at Christmas and so far I’ve got her an oodie, some Angel perfume, an umbrella with her favourite painting (the fighting temeraire) on it and a My heritage dna kit.

Sixmonthson · 07/11/2021 19:58

I’ve bought my mum a coverless duvet this year as she really struggles with changing her bed these days
She slept under one in a holiday home and was impressed

HeyupitsChristmas · 07/11/2021 20:10

I've bought my mum some sketchers slippers - hard soled - because she's forever nipping out to the garden, so they'll be great.

She's also got a blanket scarf and a grey poncho jumper, and a tin of personalised Quality Street.

I might get her some Clarins bits as well...

dementedma · 07/11/2021 20:16

A trip in a hot air balloon was well received when she was a bit younger one year. I think 75

jocktamsonsbairn · 07/11/2021 20:17

My mum is the same age. I've got her vouchers for her favourite restaurant and new slippers. Will add a box of M&S cherry liqueurs and that'll be her happy!

ZeroFuchsGiven · 07/11/2021 20:29

My Mil would be mortified at some of these suggestions Grin shes 74 on xmas eve. Im getting her google play vouchers and a new hand bag.
