I'm a Christmas lover and love all things Christmas so far we have booked;

A centre parks Christmas weekend
Ice skating
The local pantomime
Christmas markets another weekend
A visit to Santa and a Santa train
A family dinner at a local hotel that does a great roast.
My workplace family Christmas celebration

What have you booked...looking for any other ideas to add in!!
I'm so excited!

Just a panto so far.

Louise5754 · 05/11/2021 22:34

@ghejxodn

Iv booked:
  • lapland UK (first time never been before)
  • panto with DH family
  • different panto with my side of the family
  • centre parcs break
  • a Christmas walk at the local garden centre
  • legoland
  • Hyde park winter wonderland

That will be it, I don't anticipate booking anything else as I think that's more than enough to get on with! Obviously will still do walking the dog and seeing Christmas lights, Christmas crafts and pottery etc but they are the big things. I plan to try and relax over Christmas and spend some quality time as a family

I can't tell whether this is a sarcastic post?
ghejxodn · 05/11/2021 22:53

@Louise5754 why would this be sarcastic?!
These activities are over the course of 5 weeks, so plenty of time to still relax whilst doing things. I like to do quite a lot before Christmas so over Christmas itself we can stay in our pjs and relax whilst me and DH have some time off from work.

rrhuth · 06/11/2021 05:14

I have now booked my veg box. As long as there are parsnips, Christmas is sorted.

Welcometothejingles · 06/11/2021 05:17

Just our train tickets back home for Christmas, only £60 return for the 3 of us. I used my railcard and got a third off so worth doing.

Going to local Christmas fair but don't need to book tickets for this. I need to confirm some lunch dates with friends for Christmas. Keeping it fairly low key & flexible in case plans need to be changed at the last minute.

halloweenie13 · 06/11/2021 05:45

My parents are hosting, they are this year ordering 10 toby carvery dinners a few days before to diffuse cost and time. Also no presents just cash or vouchers apart for my youngest sibling who is 10. I have arranged to go to 2 christmas markets, visit various christmas lights, go christmas shopping ish and anything else available.

garlictwist · 06/11/2021 05:53

Some of your plans are insane! So much!

Christmas1988 · 06/11/2021 07:32

Centre Parcs Winter wonderland

Nc123 · 06/11/2021 07:35

Two pantomimes - an am dram one and a pro one at our repertory theatre.
A weekend in York which will include the Christmas market

And that’s it! We will go to our local Christmas market and a Carol service too

I'm just waiting for posters to mention buying all the Christmas Eve Hamper/December 1st Hamper ( I do Dec 1st here) items and getting the

Christmas Eve Hampers? More tat ? Is this A THING now Xmas Hmm type replies .

Answer: No , it isn't A Thing . It's something some people like to do .
My DC need pyjamas/underwear/robes/socks . Why not make it part of a tradition to do this as part of a Christmas Box.
Christmas Eve Hampers were part of it when they were little to get them settled and ready to sleep.
Just like some adults will sit with a glass of wine .

So wether someone likes to do days out , pantomime, looking at lights ...or do Sweet Fuck All . Their choice

My Mum was of the SFA camp so I made a choice to be different when I had DC .

FourTeaFallOut · 06/11/2021 08:22

A winter light show walk thing...I'm sure there's a better name for that? A panto. And Christmas Eve bowling - not very traditional but my kids love it. There's a lot of other stuff we'll do but nothing else is booked in.

MsSquiz · 06/11/2021 08:40

We've booked:
A weekend at Center Parcs with family
Gibside light trail
Alnwick garden light trail
Santa at Whitehouse Farm
Santa at Fenwicks
Pantomime with friends

We also have 4 kids in the family who have their birthdays in the 10 days before Christmas so busy but fun!

didireallysaythat · 06/11/2021 09:00

I'm guessing most of the posters have preschool kids (hence the center parks, santa trips etc). Must cost more than the Xmas day food and the presents??

Bettyboop3 · 06/11/2021 09:07

Adult panto and works xmas meal.

bluechameleon · 06/11/2021 09:13

Waddesdon Christmas lights.
Legoland for a weekend including Father Christmas visit.
Night out with some neighbours (just me).
Panto visit with inlaws.
We will also go to our town's turning on of the Christmas lights (with rides and fireworks), go to the Winter Wonderland at a garden centre, go to the rides at the shopping centre and go outside when the Rotary Club Santa comes round on the truck, but don't need to book for these things.

Hetyanni · 06/11/2021 09:15

Grotto, 2 light trails, ice skating, pantomime, kids play, breakfast with Santa. Other things we will do that don't need booking like Christmas light safari, possibly a trip to London, local funfair, garden centre for decs.

Onionbhajisandwich · 06/11/2021 09:15

We’ve booked the pantomime and a Santa train thing. We won’t book much else - we have lots of things that we do traditionally that doesn’t need booking - breakfast with friends, a all around the neighbourhood to look at lights - that kind of stuff. I’ll arrange those closer to the time.

EvenLess07 · 06/11/2021 09:39

Taking DD to get some Christmas photos done for family today so starting much earlier than usual! 🎅
Santa's Grotto at the local kid's farm
A Christmas lights display at local country park
Shopping day with mum and sister in our nearest cathedral city
Trip to the garden centre for cake and a new tree as ours is 15 years old and falling to bits!
A couple of Christmas nights out with friends and I'll try and squeeze in a carol concert on my own at some point (former Christian now agnostic but always a bit nostalgic at Christmas).

Hosting for the first time this year so need to start planning and getting prepared. Looking forward to it all so much after a difficult year Wine

Chippymunks · 06/11/2021 09:39

Christmas lights and walk around event in an a beautiful garden similar to a NT place.
Christmas lunch out.
Panto on Boxing Day.
Local restaurant for NYE.

ANameChangeAgain · 06/11/2021 09:42

An absolutely blissful nothing.
We have parents coming to ours for Christmas lunch. We have booked a lovely holiday for New Year in a country cottage with a log fire on the outskirts of a pretty little village in the middle of nowhere

daisychainsandrainbows · 06/11/2021 09:46

@Bdelder

Ah I’ve found the people who booked all the Santa visits months in advance, so now my kids can’t go! There’s literally nothing left in my town now!

Don’t you feel a little greedy for booking multiple Christmas events, so other families don’t get a look in?

Hmm You would have had the opportunity to book when others did and it's just a case of first come, first served. Next year get booked up earlier if there are things you want to do.

We've booked a Christmas lights experience, Santa's Grotto and both a daytime and nighttime festive train journey. Can't wait! We've got 20 days off work so need a few trips to fill the days :)

gogohm · 06/11/2021 09:59

Wait until nearer the time, see what comes up!

beanybab · 06/11/2021 10:06

weekend in France for xmas markets.
lapland uk
panto
afternoon tea with gps
santa train
ballet

guiltynetter · 06/11/2021 10:07

I've learned my lesson with booking Christmas events with young kids, 2 years in a row I had to try and sell tickets for things and losing money because they were too ill to go! My kids are hardly ever ill but for some reason always in December they manage it, my DD in particular has got tonsillitis every year in December for 4 years in a row. So I've booked one event, a pantomime. Hopefully they'll make it! I might book something else but only closer to the time if there's anything left..

beanybab · 06/11/2021 10:09

Must cost more than the Xmas day food and the presents??

a bomb!
