What do you put on top of your tree?

I've never been able to find anything I like so it's been topper less the last few years so looking for inspiration!

We always have a real tree which I think sometimes restricts a bit as they can't always cope with something too heavy. No colour scheme, I like lots of colours and coloured lights so I just put stuff I like on it. IMO it looks fab but I do think it misses a topper. I don't think I'd want a fairy but I'm open minded!

We've got a star. The last light gets poked inside it so it 'shines'

We have a star similar to this which has wire at the back to attach to the tree but you can't see it so it gives the effect that the star is floating

I personally like a star on top of the tree, we have one similar to this. I like the idea of having a wire at the back to attach it as sometimes the star can be a bit heavy so it takes some balancing for it not to flop over.

Varies from year to year. Last few years have been
Nendoroid Belle
Nendoroid Rapunzel
Lego Thunderbird
Lego Occamy

Not sure what we'll have this year. No doubt DS2 will be pushing for his Lego Grawp Grin

I have a white dove to signify "peace on earth".

A teddy in a festive jumper! When my son was a toddler, I sent him out with his dad to get “something for the top of the tree” and they came back with that. It has gone on top of the tree every year since and the kids won’t hear of anything else. It’s fine as we’re not religious anyway so I don’t really care what goes on there!

Sunshineandflipflops · 01/11/2021 15:06

And the teddy lasted longer than the ex husband…

We put the PG Tips monkey on our tree!

BreastedBoobilyToTheStairs · 01/11/2021 15:12

An elf clinging on and holding some bells Grin

We have a dog in a Christmas hat. Looks like our dog. I suggested we get something new and really nice. You would have thought I had murdered our real dog. Took a lot to save Christmas that year...

I want a fairy like when I was a child, been shopping around for one. I always thought she was so pretty but looking back she was like a ping pong ball on a cone with a face painted on and a bit of shit fabric Grin

Snowisfallinghere · 01/11/2021 15:23

A glass spike/spire thingy similar to this. They're quite popular here in Switzerland.

DH, usually. After I've told him to shove it up his...🤣

But, truthfully, some kind of star shaped thingy but we've a couple to choose from.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 01/11/2021 15:28

We have a star but the tree invariably ends up too tall, so we don't usually have anything. The few times we used the star, it was too heavy anyway. Actually, I might be in the market for something new as well...

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 01/11/2021 15:29

On our real tree, a star. On our faux tree, a clip on glittery butterfly. The stars I’ve got are too heavy for the flimsy faux branch/trunk at the top.

Stroan · 01/11/2021 15:31

It was a star for years but a few years ago I had a fairy made out of some sentimental fabric. We love her!

Cocolapew · 01/11/2021 15:34

The last few years I've had Prince up there Grin

We have a gold angel I bought back in Woolworths in the 1980s. Still looks like new despite repeated cat attacks.

PARunnerGirl · 01/11/2021 15:37

I’m in Scotland, so I have a (fake!) stags head. It’s like a cuddly toy type of material with plastic antlers and a tartan scarf Grin

languagelover96 · 01/11/2021 15:39

Baubles- I love them.

PlatinumBrunette · 01/11/2021 15:43

A very old fairy 😀 She’s a doll that’s been around forever (my whole life, at least, possibly mum’s too). Mum made her dress like a long version of this.

PG Tips Monkey. It was free with the teabags the year I moved out. He’s wearing a Xmas jumper.

RestingStitchFace · 01/11/2021 18:08

I have two toppers I alternate each year. Both extremely elderly - a fairy that my Mum had on her tree as a child. And a star that was on the family tree when I was a kid. Both showing their age - they are faded and worn. But I will keep them on the tree until they physically fall apart. Christmas isn't anything without tradition....

AnitaMani · 01/11/2021 18:09

I just use my favourite tree decoration and fashion it as near the top as possible.
