Hello all,

I thought it might be fun to talk about the gifts we are excited to give and why, which might help someone else with an idea. I'll start:

Husband, early 30s
A projector. Not a fancy one, about £80 from Amazon. We have a small TV and a big blank neutral wall. Thought it would be fun for movie nights. I've also made a 'hamper' to go with it with slightly funky snacks including caramel nuts, bill tong and of course popcorn! For the hamper I am just using a recyclable gift bag. I've made a little cinema ticket (free templates online).

A box of favours. I saw this idea on Amazon so decided to do it myself, I've basically just made a dozen or so laminated favours - things like a hot drink (he usually is the tea maker), me to wash car, a takeaway of his choice. I bought a diddy gift bag for 49p and I put some mini mint lindors in the bag as they are making everything else smell of mint!

A scrapbook of our adventures this year.

12 days of Christmas socks!

A selection of games - few recommendations from here (Hive and Ticket to Ride) we enjoy games but usually play the same couple over and over again so I think he'll like them.

Dad, late 50s
A massive discounted bottle of Molton Brown (from outlet shop) as he works very hard in a physically demanding job and has a bath every evening to relax

Niece, 5
A massive craft box - even I think it looks like good fun.

Love to hear yours!

My middle daughter has wanted something incredibly niche, over budget, and only made/available in Australia for a very long time. I ordered it when I got a surprise bonus from work in September and it's arrived and is sat under my bed. Cannot wait to see her face on Christmas morning!

Avarua · 18/10/2021 15:21

^ is it an oodie? My DD got hers yesterday :)

Withershins · 18/10/2021 15:49

I have bought my grown up daughter her first Mulberry bag, she keeps trying to "borrow" one of mine, I got it from the outlet shop so not quite as expensive but still pretty steep. She has had a pretty rubbish year with some deaths of people who are significant to her, so thought she needed spoiling Smile

noscoobydoodle · 18/10/2021 16:47

@Avarua- it's something made by an Australian artist that my daughter follows on the internet. The shipping was nearly as much as my usual budget for her main present!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 18/10/2021 16:48

The only thing that's got me really excited by so far is the new stockings I've got for DDs.

bearlyactive · 18/10/2021 16:51

A printout of a picture I accidentally took of her walking with her boyfriend in the summer. I cropped everything else out and have turned it into a print. I think she'll love it!

Thecomfortador · 18/10/2021 17:02

A soft snowman toy, ds1 had one as a toddler but it was lost in Asda one day. He still mentions it occasionally, so I thought I'd treat him to version 2. It's not an exact match so I can't claim the same one has returned home. His younger bro is getting the snow dog which works out quite nicely.

NortieTortie · 18/10/2021 17:04

Preordered the new switch lite with pokemon on the back for DS(will be 6), he's pokemon mad so I can't wait to see his little face!!

NortieTortie · 18/10/2021 17:05

Love your idea of projector + snacks, that sounds wonderful.

Hayup · 18/10/2021 17:18

DD....She's been asking for a Barbie House all year and while we haven't got her the £250 house, we did get one for an absolute bargain (£67!!!!)

She will be so excited.

winnieanddaisy · 18/10/2021 18:00

For impossible to buy for dh, especially since I got him a nice cashmere jumper for his recent birthday.

He really enjoys the garden birds and spends a bomb on food, endlessly topping up the feeders, so today I had the idea of blue tit nest box with a camera. Apparently they should go up nice and early for the birds to get used to them before the nesting season, so Christmas would be a good time.
I always give dh a Christmas card from the birds!

Ragwort · 18/10/2021 18:21

I bought the Nigel Slater book Christmas book for DH to give to me - does that count! Grin

Stompythedinosaur · 18/10/2021 18:29

I always look forward to giving my dds their presents. I think they'll be blown away to get Switches this year. But I'm also looking forward to the two knitted axolotls I've got for their stockings as I think they will be thrilled with them too.

I’ve sponsored an organ pipe in york minster for my Dad. (Who is an organist)

Apparently they should go up nice and early for the birds to get used to them before the nesting season, so Christmas would be a good time. My friend and her husband have one of these and he puts videos on his fb page. It is absolutely wonderful to see them and fascinating to watch. I now know more facts about blue tits than I ever thought I would 😊

For me it’s FiL’s tandem skydive. He’s either going to love it or hate it. He is incredibly difficult to buy for. He’s got hobbies but he already has the best of everything and he’s beyond fussy when it comes to clothes etc. He is a bit of a secret adrenaline junkie though, so we’re hoping it’s a good choice. It’s all done by email so I’ve bought one of those naff plastic soldiers attached to a bit of carrier bag by string that kids used to chuck out of the window, and am planning on arranging it in a box and handing that over to unwrap. I’m fairly sure he’ll accuse us of trying to bump him off for the inheritance but he’s such a lovely man and such a good dad to DH, but so difficult to spoil, so hoping he’s happy with it.

DH and I usually work from lists for big presents (our hobbies often need very specific stuff which the other has no clue about) but I’ve also bought him a PS4 Virtual Reality headset, the controllers and some games which I’m excited about. And some incredibly lairy boxer shorts which he’ll love.

Husband is a huge Bill & Ted fan and loves a good hoodie. He made a throwaway comment that he wished he had a Wyld Stallyns hoodie and I've found that very thing for him on Etsy. He will absolutely love it. He's easily pleased and never wants anything "big".

Daughter (will be 7 next month) did a few loom band activities in holiday club and was mad about it, so I've got her a big loom band set. Guaranteed it'll be the first thing she plays with on Christmas day.

What a wonderful, creative idea! I'm sure he'll love that.

I’ve bought DH a smoker for his drinks. He’s always loved faffing about with making drinks and cocktails and is a big whiskey fan. He loves the theatre of cocktails - so he’s a big fan of the Alchemist bar and had previously enjoyed doing molecular cocktails. We went away last year and he had a Smokey old fashioned in the bar, which he loved. He’s already got the other stuff in for an old fashioned, so he just needed a smoker to add to the theatre of it. He’s also got a little box of Japanese whiskeys to try. So I’m guessing it’ll be about 1pm before he starts making himself a Smokey old fashioned with his Japanese whiskey (after spending the morning reading through all the tasting notes, obviously).

Thanks for that, my Gdd will be coming up to 7 and loves crafts. I try to avoid anything with essential ‘bits’ that only get lost, but presumably it wouldn't matter if some of the loom band bits disappear into the black holes of their house.

I'm hoping to win a ballot to get tickets for the 150th Open next year for DH, he has no idea I've applied for them, demand is high so fingers crossed. He's not really bothered about presents, anything golf related I've discovered is the biggest success with him. Our adult dd has long flown the nest so it's only us and the cats at home Christmas morning, and as dh has a poker face reaction to gifts, a quick thank you and is straight on to cooking breakfast the cats always have a fab reaction to their gifts. Im quite excited about this years gifts, a beautiful pet sofa and a plush faux fur throw that's just like ours that they love, it's going to go by their favourite radiator. A catnip plant (ebay) and a skateboard and set of dj Dec's (cardboard scratchers aldi £6.99). I've tried to cut down on my random buying this year so quite a few of this years gifts I've asked the recipients what they would like and its hard to get excited about gifting a national trust membership or a gift card for Next, though I'm sure they'll be well received.

Ooh, that would be a good gift, good luck! My DH has played there (the old course, I think it’s called) and says the whole place is just fantastic for any golfer to walk around.

Dogatetheleftovers · 19/10/2021 12:06

Oh I’ve just looked at the Open Golf ballot and see that it’s closed. My DH and DS would have loved that. ☹️

Mrsfussypants1 · 19/10/2021 12:19

I'm on tenterhooks checking my emails for the results of the draw, this has been the most organised I've been for his gift.If that fails I'm filling a b&M velvet sack with Titelst golf balls, I've exhausted all other golf avenues, golf watch, galvin green golf clothes, Lindt choc golf balls.

shortpeopleproblems · 19/10/2021 12:23

I'm really pleased with DH's gifts this year. A voucher (that I'll keep secret until we go) for a "rage room" experience - 30 minutes of a room full of things to smash, old TVs and vases etc 😁😁 He'll be like a giddy kid, I can't wait.

Also as he loves board games and is impossible to buy for - a special backpack to carry board games to a games night or event. You can stack loads in and it has pockets for dice, meeples, cards, maps etc. He's going to lose his mind over it. (Yes, I realise how sad that sounds!)
