These were peak wooden train set years for my DSs - as well as the trains and track, we had stations, bridges, destinations (sheds, windmill, painting shed, docks etc).

Ds6 loved Playmobil farm and police sets the last two years and still plays with them now and will be 7 just before Christmas.
Marble run
Wooden train set
Lego police stuff
Have all been hits too.
Dd is 4 and is getting:
Dressing up outfit
Playmobil fire station (carry set)
Playmobil fire engine
Barbie Dreamtopia set (ds2 will be chuffedGrin)
Jigsaw
Ocean book & Octopus squishy
With some small bits for her stocking.
I was looking at some Dinosaur stuff for her but she has plenty so will bare it in mind for her 5th birthday next year.

EcoCustard · 11/10/2021 20:11

*bear not bare, brain fog.

Knifeandfawkes · 11/10/2021 21:54

@Rugsofhonour funny you picked up on it in that way. Really just defaulted to boy as that's what I have but obviously either sex can play with any toy. He has plenty of bits that might traditionally be seen as 'girls' (toy kitchen, play food, doll, toy baby sling, baking apron and hat, personalised baking utensils), and I am more than open to any toys you might want to suggest, unless you came on just to pick fault with the language I used Confused

Some ideas we've looked at for our DS (4):

Rollerskates
Skateboard
Kiddizoom camera
6ft slide
Lego sets

zebrarobot · 12/10/2021 00:42

My boy will be 4.5 at Christmas and so far we have got him a cops and robbers lego set.

Following with interest

@Rugsofhonour, I personally appreciate a separated boy\girl thread as I don't want to be trawling through ideas usually aimed at girls, for my boys, and vice versa. It's a waste of my time, and so this works for me. Of course, a general child whatever age thread would work, but if most of the replies were from parents of.girls who were interested in typically 'girly ' things, then again, time wasted.

Ricekrispie22 · 12/10/2021 06:15

Pillow pet
3D dinosaur nightlight
Constructive Eating cutlery
Paw Patrol light up slippers (Matalan)

user64323 · 16/10/2021 00:00

My ds turns 5 at christmas, and he wants lots of Playmobil. He has requested the recycling truck, fire engine, boats, universal remote control, police robot, hotel, holiday villa, modern house and mermaid sets. Obviously he isn't going to get all of those and I haven't decided which yet, but he will be happy with any.

I've got him some small Lego sets already (ice cream van and Mickey Mouse space set) the Hot Wheels storage box that converts into a race ramp, a stomp rocket and a foam pogo jumper.

CaptainMerica · 16/10/2021 07:47

My 4yo is asking for a marble run, iron-man gloves, playmobile, and a family board game.

I've also got him Luigi lego (to stop the fights over DS1's Mario lego) and a hatching Toothless dragon toy (like a hatchimal).

His stocking will be full of the blind bag/mystery box junk that I hate and he loves.

MrsPerfect12 · 16/10/2021 08:19

I've bought my son a space tent. I know he'll love it. It goes on the bed so not a full size tent.
But I have also bought him a two man tent and sleeping bag previously.

DivaRainbow · 16/10/2021 08:38

My 4 year old is getting:
Go kart
Telescope
jigsaw
Books
New pj's

I'm actually struggling this year for him so I'm very grateful for this thread

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 16/10/2021 08:59

A V-tech Kiddizoom camera went down very well for Gds’ 5th birthday. He’d wanted one ever since his sister got one for her 6th. It has games on it, as well as camera functions.

Unfortunately it only comes in blue or garish pink.

Youvegotafriendinme · 16/10/2021 09:12

DS will be 5 just before Christmas. His main Christmas presents will be Amazon fire 10, vtech marble run, schleich animals, small Lego sets and some dress up outfits. He’s also got a couple of barbie dolls as he asked Santa for one last year and Santa didn’t deliver Shock

CaptainMerica · 16/10/2021 09:30

There is also a schleich dinosaur enclosure playset that looks amazing, but it's £70, and I'm not sure I can justify adding it to the list. Does anyone have one, and can say if it is worth it?

[quote Rugsofhonour]Why couldn’t this just say “children age 4-6”? Gendering toys does no one any favours.

“Lego has announced it will work to remove gender stereotypes from its toys after a global survey the company commissioned found attitudes to play and future careers remain unequal and restrictive.

Researchers found that while girls were becoming more confident and keen to engage in a wide range of activities, the same was not true of boys.

Seventy-one per cent of boys surveyed feared they would be made fun of if they played with what they described as “girls’ toys” – a fear shared by their parents. “Parents are more worried that their sons will be teased than their daughters for playing with toys associated with the other gender,” said Madeline Di Nonno, the chief executive of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, who conducted the research.”

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

There's weans dying of hunger. Why not focus your energy on that instead?

shouldistop · 16/10/2021 10:01

Ds1 is 5 and will put a list together to post to Santa so that will help.
I really want to avoid buying too many toys as he already has a ridiculous amount but will get a couple from whatever he puts on his list.
Things I will be encouraging him to put on his list are;

New play doh
A tuff tray for playing with his Lego etc.
New paints & brushes
Some new books
New pjs

Things I know he'll ask for;

An ice dragon that breathes steam and has a remote control in the shape of an egg.
Some more paw patrol Dino rescue things
Some more octonauts things
