Brightening to the south here...is your cloud coverage improving, Puss?!

OP posts:
CrazyBaubles · 18/10/2021 10:25

It's very dark and gloomy here. Forecast shows dark cloud and rain on and off all day. I've had to put the spare room light on to work in there.

Rubbish night here. I went to sleep early but the dog woke me at 1am because he needed a pee. Then at 5am he made 'I'm going to be sick' noises. DH hoofed him outside sharpish where he was a little bit sick but I think DH has woken and moved so fast he was really irritated and was moaning his head off at the dog and me when he got back to bed 😡
I did have an apology and a cup of hot choc left for me this morning though so I'll have to think about forgiving him.

Im going to call my parents soon. I've said Im calling at least once every day and so is my sister so we can keep a check on them - they're both buggers for saying they're fine when they actually need a dr (as an example, both have gone to work with broken bones before - mum broke her wrist, was adamant it was a sprain, drove to work and did half a shift in a shop putting out stock before her manager took her to the hospital, and dad fitted a kitchen with 2 broken fingers 🙄) so we're keeping tabs on them via FaceTime!

NerosFiddle · 18/10/2021 11:18

Crazy I know a few people who are double vaxxed and have caught it. Seem to be bad for the first couple days then ok again. Hopefully that's the way it is for them too.

Ds has a hospital appointment after school today. He has a turn in his eyes and needs surgery to correct it. The waiting list is unbelievably long though.

Hayup · 18/10/2021 16:39

Sorry to hear about your parents Crazy sending best wishes for a speedy recovery.

It's unbearably dull and grey here, I've kept the blinds shut in my office today - every time I glanced out of the window it was drizzly and grey.

Cheering myself up by knitting this evening - DD is being very demanding about her scarf and badgering me little bossy boots

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 18/10/2021 17:12

I have had a lovely girls weekend away. We went to Thetford Forest and stayed in a lodge. It was so relaxing and we laughed all weekend. We went to a Michelin starred restaurant for dinner on the Saturday as my friend is 50 next week. I can well recommend.

NoWordForFluffy · 18/10/2021 21:55

My friend is double vaxxed AND had Covid last year and she really struggled with it this time too. Hopefully your parents fare better than she did, Crazy.

Our weather took a turn for the worse too earlier...we succumbed to the tumble dryer for the towels, which is a very rare act!

Why, sounds like a lovely weekend!

CrazyBaubles · 18/10/2021 22:33

Thank you all. I'm quite worried about them tbh. My dad is on day 5 of symptoms and dm is on day3. He's exhausted and her chest sounds terrible - they've both spent the last 2 days completely in bed (aside from bathroom and trips to refill drinks). They aren't really eating either.

What sort of scarf are you doing HayUp?

Your weekend sounds lovely why - and a very well deserved break for you.

Does anyone know if I can use the sewing machine to see the fabric lining to the crochet strap of the Santa bag? I started it by hand tonight but it's slow going - google says yes but I'm not convinced

NoWordForFluffy · 18/10/2021 22:59

Do they have a SATs monitor, Crazy? Can you order one for them? They can keep an eye on their O2 levels then.

OP posts:

Morning. We couldn't sleep, so we're up with Brew and being entertained by the cats who think they're at Daytona Speedway. Hmm
fluffy it looks like you might need the tumble dryer again today.
Crazy I think the handle would be better hand sewn, it might pucker on the machine. You can control the tension better by hand iyswim.
I hope your DPs are on the mend soon.
why sounds like you've had a fab time.

WreckTangled · 19/10/2021 07:09

I know quite a few double vaxxed with Covid. Ds' teacher has it now.

It's mild here 17°.

Crazy I agree with fluffy. A SATs monitor is a good shout.

I went to bed at 8:30 last night. I'm just exhausted at the moment. I came down at 6:30 and ds jumped out at me in his Halloween costume HmmGrin

NoWordForFluffy · 19/10/2021 07:34

Yeah, it's a wee bit damp round these parts. I think there may be a dry window overnight for the washing, however, but it keeps changing!

What time does your DS get up, Wreck? Ours get prised out of bed at 7.15 on a school day!

OP posts:
WreckTangled · 19/10/2021 07:40

I usually have to wake him up at 7 but he said dd's alarm woke him up at 6 this morning. It's quite handy though as we need to leave in ten minutes!

pussycatlickinglollyices · 19/10/2021 08:37

Went shopping earlier and saw NDN (teacher) when we got home. He said there are more staff and pupils off with Covid now than at any other point. They are struggling to safely keep open and can't wait for Friday.

NoWordForFluffy · 19/10/2021 08:54

I have no idea what levels are like in our school. But DH is on two class WhatsApp groups and hasn't said people are off!

OP posts:
MissingMo · 19/10/2021 09:26

Morning all, damp and windy here. Just done the school run and am relaxing in the car whilst DS naps. Trying to work out what to do with my day. There's been 1 case in DDs year, couldn't tell us which class, but we tested her and its been negative. Doesn't help that there's been this dreaded cold going around with similar symptoms.

CrazyBaubles · 19/10/2021 10:19

Morning. Functioning on 5 hours of broken sleep here. Hormones / cramps and worry have made me restless 😩

Parents have a sats monitor thing. Mums levels are fine, dads are at the lower end of 'kind of ok considering he's ill' - his last oxygen level reading was 93% and he's under strict instructions to monitor it regularly and send the readings to me (I'm keeping a written record of them).
Both are awake and sat up in bed today which is more than they managed yesterday, plus they've had lollies for breakfast and my dad is starting to feel a bit hungry. Hopefully they'll be on the mend soon.

puss 😭 at having to continue hand sewing - but better that than to ruin it all now I'm near the end I suppose!

Wreck what costume does your DS have?

DHs school seem to be ok for cases but my friend who is a TA in a different school has said they are just at the staff level needed to stay open because they've managed to get some supply teachers in but if 1 or 2 more people go off or they can't get the supplies in, they'll have to close - half the staff are off there!

It's a very grey and wet day here. Not overly cold though so I have washing hung in the conservatory in the hope it' gets warm enough to dry because I've got at least another 2, maybe 3, loads in the basket and we haven't really started switching the heating on yet.

WreckTangled · 19/10/2021 15:42

It's a skeleton reaper Grin I got it for him for their Halloween disco which has now been cancelled because of their first Covid case. He's going to be so upset. He usually refuses to dress up at school but was really looking forward to this.

Hope your parents continue to improve crazy. When I was redeployed during the second (third?) lockdown the doctors were saying no admissions unless SATS dipped to 87 Blush but there was evidence to show even with low SATS people were managing well. I suppose they just don't know how it'll affect someone. Having an appetite sounds positive.

NoWordForFluffy · 19/10/2021 19:35

It sounds more promising for your parents today, Crazy. Let's hope they keep improving.

I didn't finish work until 7 tonight. It's all gone horribly wrong this last fortnight! But I've discovered I can claim overtime, so at least I can get paid for it!

OP posts:
70isaLimitNotaTarget · 19/10/2021 19:54

Flowers Crazy it is a huge worry when your parents are ill ( I know mine are elderly and until my Dad was really ill early this year -and subsequently died- he sailed on through with very very few illness episodes )

Glad to read you are seeing improvement but there's no way of predicting how an illness can knock someone bandy

I'm coveting a jumper (QVC) it is cheaper than the brand site and similar to others I've liked in H&M (but nicer material)

It is starting to get dark early now , I went to pick DD up from the station , had my lights on......and after the clocks change it'll be even more so
DD did say she was "darked on" Xmas Grin

CrazyBaubles · 19/10/2021 20:09

70 you can't say that without either linking or posting a pic of the jumper!

Could you not claim overtime in your previous job Fluffy? Or at least time in lieu?

Wreck your poor ds. Could you do a Halloween party at home or something for him?

Parents are out of bed and sat downstairs. My dad said his heart rate went a bit nuts from just walking from bed to sofa and his oxygen level is now saying 92%. He spoke to the nhs test and trace people who call you to check in on you apparently and they said to carry on monitoring and call back if it reaches 90%.
I think they're both a bit scared because neither of them have ever been seriously ill before. They've broken bones, my dad used to suffer migraines and my mum has some hormonal issues but never like this and it's exhausting them.

My day has been manic with work and I'm completely done in now. I kept myself busy when I finished but now I've stopped and sat down I can barely keep my eyes open 🥱

NoWordForFluffy · 19/10/2021 20:15

No, very rare to get TOIL or overtime in this job, Crazy. It has all gone hideously wrong this last couple of weeks though (I was given 8 new files yesterday!), so I'm going to claim it. I don't mind the odd bit of extra work, but needing to do a few hours a day is a bit grim (and not something I've had to do since qualification either!).

I think Covid can be quite scary. My friend has found it hard both times.

OP posts:
WreckTangled · 19/10/2021 20:20

We were previously told no TOIL but my current manager allows it. Definitely no overtime paid.

Crazy I've heard they're doing class parties instead so that's nice. I've ordered him a PCR as, although we haven't been contacted, I'm going to assume he's a close contact. Your poor parents, I hope they continue to improve, I've heard people say they can feel out of breath just walking across the room even when they've felt ok previously. You should just go to bed. I think I might Grin

NoWordForFluffy · 19/10/2021 20:42

To be honest, TOIL is no good to me, as I simply don't have time to take it! Every solicitor loves and dreads annual leave in equal measure. 🤣🙄

OP posts:
pussycatlickinglollyices · 19/10/2021 20:47

70 It wasn't the Rudolf jumper that Simon was wearing with the light up baubles was it? Xmas Grin
Crazy The fact that they've made it out of bed and down stairs is positive. Are they likely to try to do too much? You might need to be a bit stern with them. Good luck with that

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 19/10/2021 20:57

70 It wasn't the Rudolf jumper that Simon was wearing
Strangely enough.....no pussycat Xmas Wink

It;s a WhiteStuff colourblock jumper , I've never bought WS before but I'll give it a go . The jumpers I've seen in my usual haunts are either too short , too boxy or too lairy .
I've gone for a grey/beige/caramel mix .
Fingers crossed .
