I have an "Impossible To Buy For" (ITBF) DP.

There's just nothing he's particularly 'into' and he's pretty happy with the simple things in life.
We don't do 'big' presents for each other so that makes things easier but I still find myself wondering what on earth to get every year!

Added to my DP's pre-existing ITBF-ness, my mother insists that I buy all of her presents to DP as well. And, as if that's not enough it's also my DP's birthday a week before Christmas.

So, DP's ITBF-ness is tripled because I have to buy Christmas presents from me, Christmas presents from my mother, and birthday presents.

We don't do 'big' birthdays though so a few little things are okay.

I usually get DP a jumper or a hoody of some kind, a few bottles of expensive/unusual booze, and a few books as standard.
I also tend to get him a few bits and pieces for his office which would be a horrible, soulless white box if it wasn't for my flourishes Grin

I've bought him a fancy advent calendar but that's not really a Christmas present as such.

At the moment, DP is developing a small hole in his jeans and I'm excited because it means I have another present idea - NEW JEANS Grin

Ladies with ITBF DP's.... tell me your tales of woe, and let's share some ideas!

I have 3 men like this to buy for (DH, DF & DB) - it does my head in !

Weirdly my DB always goes on and on about a small gift I bought him many years ago which he describes as the best present ever –it was a small leather beautifully made cufflink box

Mostly my DB asks for money to go towards a hideously expensive thing he wants

CoffeeChocolateWine · 10/10/2021 14:04

DH’s birthday was yesterday and presents were actually pretty successful.
He asked for a new smart belt and really liked a reversible one I got for him - tan on one side, dark brown on the other.
Liked these fore cones and the DC were really excited to give them to him!
The Spicery legend box got a slightly underwhelming initial response, but he’s been more interested and enthusiastic about trying some recipes out today.
Whisky is always well received so no surprises there!
A fake oodie also went down well (he’s admired mine since last winter!)

CoffeeChocolateWine · 10/10/2021 14:05

*fire cones not fore cones.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 10/10/2021 14:43

@billysboy, actually beer glasses is a good shout. DH is down to his last one. Going on the Christmas list!

SixTwirlingTutus · 10/10/2021 17:07

@Jokie

It's experience days that work well. So far it's been: trying out diving, steam trains, walking experience, falconry.
I bought my parents a falconry course. They LOVED it.

DH- back in our richer days i bought him an experience in a Hurricane. (Plane).

Otherwise I have drawn a complete blank.

I have this issue every year!!! DH also has an October birthday which means I'm generally even shorter on Ideas. He likes random, amusing gifts.

My birthday gifts is a Cheese board game / hamper (Crackerdash) with some nibbles / port etc

But I'm clueless for Xmas so very much enjoying this thread!!!

JumperandJacket · 11/10/2021 15:40

Struggling with this. DH likes gardening (but has everything), walking (ditto). So far I have bought him a bottle of calvados. Would love to find something quirky and unusual.

Previous hits- a glass case for sprouting an avocado stone, bat sensor, heavy duty bulb planter.

TuftyMarmoset · 11/10/2021 16:46

This is what I have bought DP now:
Atomic Habits book and How to Break up with your Phone book, as he’s been complaining about wasting too much time on his phone
Banana box as he complained about bananas getting squashed in his bag
Tshirt
Quacks of Quedlinburg board game
And I’m thinking about getting him a SAD lamp as well if he complains about it being dark and depressing between now and Christmas.

doodlejump1980 · 11/10/2021 16:52

Waterproof socks were a hit last Christmas with my mountain-biking-daft DH.

Baystard · 11/10/2021 16:55

DH is like this. It isnt helped that he has some sort of psychic link to Amazon and the moment he thinks he'd like something it magically arrives. So anything he likes he already has. If he doesn't have something it's because he doesn't want one enough to bother ordering.

Normally I buy him socks, underpants, and a new jumper. And bastarding Amazon vouchers Hmm

RealDinosaurofBarnardCastle · 11/10/2021 18:15

I’ve also bought vintage movie posters

A wine tasting lesson with a sommelier

Something to look forward to every month for 12 months

Art exhibition tix

RestingStitchFace · 11/10/2021 18:47

My hubby is very into obscure music and obscure books. Problematic because a) it's impossible to keep tabs on what he's already got and b) he's ridiculously specific in his interests. So he'll like Band A's early work, but not their last 2 albums, he'll like an particular authors short stories but not their novels. Or he'll want the 2nd edition because it comes with better cover art.

Basically, after years of getting it wrong, I've pretty much given up. He puts together an Amazon list and I buy stuff from that. I might chuck in a few random surprises here and there - a giant Toblerone, a bottle of gin. But mostly it's whatever's on the wish-list

For any Clarksons Farm fans

clpsmum · 11/10/2021 19:45

@RealDinosaurofBarnardCastle thanks (I think) for the diddly squat link! At this rate I'm going to be bankrupt before Halloween never mind Christmas hahaha

Araisaris · 11/10/2021 20:02

Giving clarkson any of my money has put me off the diddlysquat website.

clpsmum · 12/10/2021 06:40

If anyone enjoyed clarksons farm here's a link to the shop! Not a bargain. It something a bit different diddlysquatfarmshop.com/collections/all/products/diddly-squat-farm-gin-in-a-tin-box-set-of-four

clpsmum · 12/10/2021 06:41

Sorry I meant to post that to my what's app group not on here!! Far too early lol

mdh2020 · 12/10/2021 07:34

I’m buying my DH a box of cheeses from Amazon . He’s the only one in the house who will eat it. the list of things we have bought him that have never been opened/ used is appalling and all the books have gone straight to charity shops. Most successful - event days, a bat detector, dash cam and indoor/ outdoor thermometer.

JoyPeaceHope · 12/10/2021 07:44

I would suggest asking difficult people to make a list of things they would like or an Amazon Wishlist, or similar online.

If they give enough options it will still be a surprise which one they get.

If they can only think of one thing themselves in the whole world then how on earth are YOU supposed to think of anything? So they will have no surprise but they get something they're happy with and you don't lose your mind.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 12/10/2021 07:48

If he likes fancy booze, maybe a subscription to a monthly delivery thing like The Gin Club?

drspouse · 12/10/2021 11:47

I used to always get DH a night out/night away but having a DS that won't be babysat and the pandemic have put paid to that. These things have multiplied so that DS is now anxious about babysitters because of having so long without them and we are even more limited.
Last year he got a Leatherman, and a tshirt with a logo that's kind of our family trademark for his birthday. He will often ask for a football book but relatives always ask me what he wants too!

I feel like I've "done" everything now.
