A Wii! I think he and the little Janeites are going to enjoy themselves on Christmas day!!!

SO - I'm a complete novice about the things. What are they? Are they easy to play? And are they all going to develop square eyes?

I'm very much of the - "They'll be just as happy with some playdough and a bag of marbles" brigade, so am a bit sceptical about it!

snap my dh came in with one yesterday

spudmasher · 07/12/2007 18:18

And me yesterday!!!! All xmas pressie problems solved in one......

spudmasher · 07/12/2007 18:21

We got ours out last night to check it worked and we had a ball. It seemed great fun. Very active and good for hand/ eye coordination.

I may well be setting a limit of half an hour at a time.

That is the recommendation for staring at a screen at school.

Call me an old bag if you will.......

TenLordsaLapin · 07/12/2007 18:22

They are the dogs danglies, my mum has bought me one for Christmas . You hold a controller in each hand, and the figure/character on screen responds to your movements. So if you are playing tennis, for example, you serve as though you were really serving, and the figure on screen does the same. They are so much fun! (can you tell I am excited )

janeite · 07/12/2007 18:23

So what do they actually DO please? Are they just like a Playstation? I've only ever used Playstation One - am sooooo not technological in any way! Wouldn't dream of calling you an old bag btw!

TenLordsaLapin · 07/12/2007 18:25

Yes, it's video games of all sorts. Just a different way of using the controllers, it's advanced graphics etc.

spudmasher · 07/12/2007 18:27

Just like tenlords said. You actually bowl, play tennis etc using the same physical movements. We have only got Wii sports thing that came free with it but we want to get lots more stuff. I like the look of all the dance type wobble plate yoga type stuff you can get.

( Move over Spudettes!! Mummy's turn!!!)

janeite · 07/12/2007 18:29

Mmm sounds mad! Sorry tenlords, we crossed posts; I wasn't meaning to ignore you.

He got the Sports game, Super Mario and Pirates of the caribbean I think.

Ooh I'm so jealous - they are fab!
Expecially the multiplayer ones. My friend has one and we normally get it out at parties (he has 4 sets of controllers) and it is such a scream! The Wii is great entertainment, not only for those playing with it but also for those watching - coz you look like such a prat waving the controllers around Plus some of the games give you a real aerobic workoout!

spudmasher · 07/12/2007 18:31

I am jealous of the Super mario one. Tried to get it on Amazon last night and is sold out.

( Gasp!! Need to get a grip. Tis a game.....)

TenLordsaLapin · 07/12/2007 18:37

I'm going to get a dancing/aerobicy one and bounce around every night

MrsWeasleysmagicmincepies · 07/12/2007 18:45

my dh only popped into woolworths on Monday to ask how long the waiting list was. He was told it was long but added his name to it anyway. He got a phone call that evening to be told they were ringing people as some were coming in soon, but so many people werent answering their phones so they rang him and we said yes order one. DH ordered a mario and spongebob square pants games.

Got a phone call on Tuesday to say when they were putting the order through and made a mistake and ordered 2 mario games (different ones) by mistake (better than Spongebob) and then their computer crashed but hopefully your order went through!
It arrived in store yesterday

Oh I want to OPEN IT, but my mum says I can't

bagpuss · 07/12/2007 20:19

Cali, dh bought that game this week and we played it straight away . DH gave up after about 10 minutes and then ds1 decided to have a go and got up to the third level . DH not impressed but the game really is very good. I have had to ration it a bit as otherwise ds1 would never leave it alone.

stealthsquiggle · 07/12/2007 20:30

Bowling - is that part of the sports thing you get with it?

Only DS, who has no idea that DH is on his way home with a Wii, has just announced he wants a "bowling set" for Christmas

DH on the other hand says we need to check it works before Christmas - for many hours with many different games.

I can see me re-instating the Sky subscription for the kitchen TV as the other one is permanently occupied by DH and DS playing!

golds · 07/12/2007 20:43

I managed to get one today from Game it came with Mario party 8, mario/sonic olympics & Rayman can't wait to play, I would like to buy Trauma team, has anyone got it, I think you have to perform operations etc...

mamhaf · 07/12/2007 20:46

I'm a world champion boxer on it - great stress-buster and fantastic exercise.

EachPeachPearMum · 07/12/2007 21:28

Both Super Mario Galaxies and Paper Mario are fabulous games! DH has almost finished SMG.... He wants the operations thing next, but I think it looks horrible

janeite · 08/12/2007 16:20

Mario Galaxies is the one he got - glad to hear it's meant to be good! He also got Sims Pets.

janeite · 08/12/2007 16:23

So the next question is - are they easy to set up? Had we better try it before Christmas day, or will it be easy to work out over a mince pie and a Baileys on Christmas morning?!!!

janeite · 08/12/2007 19:38

Pretty please? I am a complete numbskull when it comes to anything like this. One of the dds has to switch the DVD player on for me on the rare occasions I watch anything!

EachPeachPearMum · 09/12/2007 00:42

Sorry- yes- you just plug it in! Then you just connect it to your wireless network and you're ready to go.
You can play not connected to a network, but you don't get any of the 'channels', voting games etc, which are great fun.
Its probably best to do it before the big day, just incase there are any difficulties- not sure how old your dcs are- some ages find it very difficult to wait!

(You are in Bham? Us too! KH)

EachPeachPearMum · 09/12/2007 00:46

Wii sports is so much fun though- bowling and baseball are great for playing with family/friends- even granny plays here! We had loads of bowling competitions last christmas- though as our dd was only 10 mo, fitted in when she was napping... thankfully she is a child who needs her sleep LOL

Mario Galaxies is too hard for me - I prefer to watch dh play, so I can see all the levels, but not get stressed about making the jumps etc Not that other people find it too hard- I'm just not very good at platform games.
