A Wii! I think he and the little Janeites are going to enjoy themselves on Christmas day!!!

SO - I'm a complete novice about the things. What are they? Are they easy to play? And are they all going to develop square eyes?

I'm very much of the - "They'll be just as happy with some playdough and a bag of marbles" brigade, so am a bit sceptical about it!

Im waiting on mine getting delivered. Took out a new phone contract with carphone warehouse and got one for free!! Cant wait to get it now.

eidsvold · 09/12/2007 03:37

they are putting them in retirement/care homes here for the residents to keep active without having to go out!

ABudafulSightWereHappyTonight · 09/12/2007 07:58

Well we bought one for DS as a surprise but then decided to get him an electric guitar instead which is what is actually asked for so wasn't planning giving the Wii till his b'day in August. But it sounds like we should do!

I am really really really unfit so it sounds like I SHOULD use it!

What's the youngest age they can be used? DH and I would love one but want to justify it on the grounds of being a family thing. The only thing is, our eldest is only 4 and a half! Is she too young?

janeite · 09/12/2007 20:49

How strange - I replied to this and it seems to have disappeared.

Each Peach - thanks for that but you've got me scared now as we don't have wireless connection. And yes, we are in Brum, probably just down the road from you (BV).

well- you don't need to have the connection, it just means that you can't play all the online stuff. For the games you purchased though, you certainly don't need it IYSWIM.

If you want to connect through a cable modem, you probably can't connect to the internet. If you have a router though, you can get a LAN adapter here or other places, and connect that way (its £17 btw). If you don't have a router, then sometime in the future you might want to look at getting a wireless onein the future. How easy it is to configure that depends on your broadband provider!

Madamey- young children would manage some of the wii play games probably, and perhaps the tennis and bowling on wii sports- depends how well-co-ordinated they are! There are other games aimed at younger children (3 and up) but I don't really know much about them- our dd was only 10 months when we got ours, and we don't play it when she's around- ours was definitely for us LOL!

EachPeachPearMum · 09/12/2007 21:36

I googled this btw 'How do you connect to the internet with a wii without going wireless?'

janeite · 09/12/2007 21:37

Thanks EachPeach but sorry, that means absolutely nothing to me. I told you I was a numbskull!

EachPeachPearMum · 09/12/2007 21:47

which part? LOL

EachPeachPearMum · 09/12/2007 21:48

Do you know how you connect to the internet?

janeite · 09/12/2007 21:48

All of that bit - sorry!

that's ok! It wat my dh who told me (word-for-word) what to type
Do you know whether you have broadband? Are you using a PC or laptop, and if its a PC, is it plugged into a little thing that looks like a flat frog, about 4" diam? or is it plugged into a box that looks like a small biscuit tin with lots of holes for connexions?

EachPeachPearMum · 09/12/2007 21:53

erm, was of course...

janeite · 09/12/2007 21:57

PC, broadband with Telewest. Modem thingy looks like a flat box with lights on, rather than a biscuit tin with holes in. Can't see any frogs!

janeite · 09/12/2007 21:59

Oh and the computer is in a different room to the television.

OP posts:
EachPeachPearMum · 09/12/2007 22:08

Can you unplug your PC from the modem? If there is more than one hole like that (they're kind of square) that means its a router. Looks like this

If the wire goes straight inside, its a modem only.

janeite · 09/12/2007 22:11

It is just a modem it would seem. Thanks for your help. So long as we don't actually NEED the internet, we'll probably be fine.

OP posts:
EachPeachPearMum · 09/12/2007 22:15

nah- there are fun things you can do with the internet connection, but none are essential to playing the games. Hope you all have a lovely christmas with your new toy!

janeite · 09/12/2007 23:05

Thanks again for all of your help.
