NEED YOUR IDEAS FOR FUN ADULT ACTIVITY AT CHRISTMAS PARTY

I'm organising a party and quiz night for some local residents as a thank you for their hard work in the community.

I need something that's fun to keep them occupied for about ten minutes while the quiz scores are being added up.

The first year I ran it I got each team to make a paper aeroplane and send someone up to throw it to see how far it would go.

Last year I gave each team an egg and got them to make a 'safety cage' out of 2 sheets of paper, then they got a couple of extra points if the egg survived when I dropped it from the stage.

So you get the idea... something a bit silly but not too elaborate.

Thanks in advance for your ideas.

Hot Potato....all you need is a large knobbly spud and a bucket of stupid forfeits - you have to pass it round like pass the parcel and whoever it stops on has to choose a forfeit and perform it.

NomDePlume · 07/12/2007 15:37

I was thinking 'keys in a bowl' when I read your thread title

NomDePlume · 07/12/2007 15:38

car keys

fortyplus · 07/12/2007 16:42

Now then, now then!!! This is a respectable quiz night run by the council! We can't have our tenants swapping car keys!

They wouldn't be up for forfeits - it needs to be an activity that the whole team can work on, then one of the more outgoing ones can demonstrate it.

They're mostly people aged 50 - 70+ with just a few younger ones.

The thing where you have a sheet of A4 paper & they have to work out how to tear it to enable someone to step through the hole!

MrsCellophaneWrappedGift · 07/12/2007 16:49

Don't know how many people you've got, and whether they'd think this a bit but a fun game is:

Form a circle, shoulder to shoulder, everyone closes their eyes, crosses their arms and stretches out their hands in front of them, at head height. You then grab sby's hand with each of yours, open eyes and the group tries to untangle itself.

Works well if you have enough for 2 circles and therefore a race.

TenLordsaLapin · 07/12/2007 16:49

Here's a few ideas

MrsCellophaneWrappedGift · 07/12/2007 16:51

Sorry, just re-read your posts. Maybe not suitable considering age group.

Is only marginally better than spoon on a string race!

Tear an elephant out of a broadsheet sheet of newspaper. Best done in the pitch dark when everyone is drunk, but could work if you supplied blindfolds.

Despite playing this many times mine are always magnificently shit and look like bagpipes with a surgically attached udder.

fortyplus · 07/12/2007 21:29

Thanks for all the suggestions so far!

I'm rofl at 'Tear an elephant out of a broadsheet sheet of newspaper. Best done in the pitch dark when everyone is drunk,'

That's the sort of game I'd play with my friends, but I can't see the tenants doing it at their party!

Oh... and for those who asked how many... it should be about 75 in teams of 6-8. Some staff are coming to join in so I will have to remain my cool calm and professional self as always (snort!) or I will never live it down!

I'm loving the elephant idea slubber!

fortyplus · 07/12/2007 21:38

Definitely one for my New Year's Eve party - but not the work one! Keep the ideas coming!

fortyplus · 07/12/2007 21:40

Actually this has just made me think of one New Year when we played a very silly game which involved clenching as many 2p pieces as possible between your buttocks and dropped them into a bowl. That's hysterically funny when you are very drunk and with very old friends!

Have you done "pick up a cereal box with your mouth"?

Take an empty cereal box, place on the floor. Everyone has a go at bending over and picking it up using ONLY their mouth (no hands etc).

After everyone has a go, cut an inch off the box and try again. This continues until everyone is out or you have a flat box base left.

I can pick up the box base (bendy!)

Maybe not for 75yo, though...

CliffRichardSucksEggsinHell · 07/12/2007 21:44

DRINK!

GreatGlowingMerrily · 07/12/2007 21:44

Balloon animals?

Though 10 minutes might not be enough time and you wouldn't want any of the oldies to have a heart attack blowing them up, so maybe not

fortyplus · 07/12/2007 21:44

I can do that too! Even though I'm 5'9"! [smug]

I have such a picture in my mind of some of them trying to do that!

OP posts:
fortyplus · 07/12/2007 21:46

Maybe I could get them all doing drinking games - now that would be funny... probably be headlines in the Daily Mail... 'Council worker plies residents with drink in mass vomit quiz night scandal...'

An orange under the chin passed along a line in a race fashion?(ok, a race then!)
Or between the knees?
Or-I've got it-balance something edible on your nose and you have to wiggle it into your mouth-can't remember what though-DD2 did it on holiday so will ask her tomorrow if you like but someone will know here!

CliffRichardSucksEggsinHell · 07/12/2007 21:56

DRINK!

fortyplus · 07/12/2007 21:57

I'm laughing, now...

Right... get this picture... we have reps of all different shapes, sizes and backgrounds... here's the line for passing the orange from chin to chin...

6'3" skinhead with black pony tail, bomber jacket and tattoos... little old lady with blue rinse perm... rather (ahem!)LARGE gentleman, not very flexible looking... guy in wheelchair with MS... strict Muslim lady wearing Burkha... Irish gentleman who arrived pissed and has continued drinking all evening...

Can you see my problem, here, girls?!

... so a "drinking beer out of a baby bottle competition" is out of the question then?
