Anyone ordering this year? I was disappointed last year so I am not ordering so much.

Do you think they will have a problem with getting stock through to honour deliveries?

Yes I’ve ordered a turkey, the sausage roll ‘thing’ for Boxing Day buffet and the churros to freeze and have at new year but that’s all . I usually buy everything but it looked so boring and with gravy and sauces missing I’m going to have to order from Booths anyway…

DrunkenKoala · 04/10/2021 12:47

Not ordered yet, but will probably be the same turkey and ham as last year, and then the triple chocolate Yule log (new this year) for dessert.

wolfstarling · 04/10/2021 13:15

I've ordered the Oakham turkey crown, smash cake, chocolate pinecones, chicken and ham pie, vegetarian veg selection and the vegetarian nut roast.

I think I am going to make some mince pies, a Yule log, trifle and Christmas cake this year. I may try Delia's, blow the dust and cobwebs off! Smile

I found the chocolate log and Colin unbearably sickly last year.

I’m ordering but I only ever order starters/sides/desserts. We go to the local butcher for our turkey, ham etc.

So this year I’ll probably order the brie en croute, a dessert of some kind (not sure yet, maybe the Yule log), and then some meat/cheese to make up a charcuterie board for Christmas Eve.

Open to any recommendations, though!

worrybutterfly · 04/10/2021 13:57

I ordered a turkey, first time ordering from them.

Fingers crossed it's nice.

InterviewTerminated · 04/10/2021 15:00

I ordered a turkey crown, pine cones and the dauphinoise potatoes. There didn't seem to be much choice this year and they haven't got the gravy topre-order or the garnish selection we usually buy.

Mrsfussypants1 · 04/10/2021 15:58

Yes, it's our 2nd year ordering, no regrets last year and loved finishing work in the early hours of the morning and going straight to pick it up then home to bed. I've chosen 23rd this year rather than the 24th just incase they can't honour it due to stock issues. I have back up in the freezer which I've done this week minus the turkey. But if all else fails we'll eat whatever meat we can get, at least it will be with family this year.

Elmo22 · 04/10/2021 17:44

Does anyone know when Morrisons’ Christmas food is available to order? I usually order from M&S but ordered from Morrisons last year and the quality was fabulous. They had a great selection. I always start to feel Christmassy after I’ve ordered my food!

Slayduggee · 04/10/2021 17:54

I’ve ordered quite a bit as I’ve got small DC plus coeliacs in the family. Ive ordered a large Turkey crown, bird in a bird in a bird, pigs in blankets and stuffing selection, lamb, smash cake, toffee ring and gluten free Yule log.

We will have at least 8 on Christmas Day plus another day when even more family decend so we get through stacks of food!

Newnormal99 · 04/10/2021 18:45

I've not ordered anything. First year in ages but nothing new that jumped out at me. Also a little worried in case stock issues do occur.

Last year I got individual turkey parcels wrapped in bacon with stuffing. They were ok but tbh the chicken thigh equivalent the butchers do were nicer and 1/4 price. I think I will get them early December and stick in freezer along with sausages etc. there is also lots of nice deserts around to pick up anyway without preordering as it will only be 3 or 4 of us.

alrightfella · 04/10/2021 20:14

Are there any offers for ordering early this year? Chocolates or wine?

RJnomore1 · 04/10/2021 20:39

Nope second year of no early bird bonus.

I’ve still ordered a turkey crown, trimmings , the veg selection, the brie en croute (it’s amazing that’s xmas eve sorted) and the churros though.

goose1964 · 04/10/2021 22:46

Whilst not in the food ordering but they have gingerbread pretzel stars. Only buy if you love gingerbread though as subtle it is not. DS1 and I managed to munch our way through a lack without too much trouble.

alrightfella · 05/10/2021 07:22

@RJnomore1 I am very tempted by the Brie en croute but no one else in the house likes cheese. I'm assuming it's not really a Christmas Eve meal for one Grin

BatFinksWings · 05/10/2021 08:46

I order every single year but this year ... nothing was grabbing me enough to order and I know for a fact there is concern from m & s about fulfilling ( I work alongside them in a different area but hear things)

I've decided instead to buy as I go along and freeze it. I'm vegan so it's just for the rest of the family. I've already popped a joint of beef, a chicken, a sausage roll Garland, pigs in blankets, stuffing, the plant kitchen vegan roast and the Brie galette in the freezer so I feel relatively well prepped already! I'll get a couple of tubs of ice cream plus all the drinks/ crisps shortly. And I already have a large bag filled with chocolate boxes/ chilli jam / cheese biscuits

So my tip is to get ahead with stuff you can store / freeze now

I know

EwwSprouts · 05/10/2021 08:52

I've ordered turkey crown, dauphinoise potatoes, pigs in blankets (need GF). I tend to buy desserts from Lidl. The melting chocolate house is fab, if rich.

ghyesc · 05/10/2021 08:57

Iv ordered for the last 7 years and wouldn't order anyone else. Iv ordered

  • turkey crown
  • sugar baked gammon
  • fillet of beef
  • pigs in blankets and stuffing balls (was a little disappointed as they didn't have the usual one I order)
  • vegetable selection
  • Christmas Colin cake
  • smash cake
  • sticky toffee pudding
  • churros

Honestly cant wait! Love being able to just stick it in the oven and be done with it. The only thing I have ordered and not been keen on was the fresh gravy. It's not available this year but wouldn't recommend it personally

PizzaCrust · 05/10/2021 10:46

Ends up that I can’t order- they won’t provide orders to where I live this year in case they can’t fulfil the order. It’s a bit disappointing but from the phrasing on the website, it sounds like they’ll be bringing what stock they have into the shop instead, so I’ll just have to make a trip to M&S on the 22nd Dec or so and see what they have.

Hopefully I can nab what I was after, then. If not, I’ll either attempt to make it myself or see what other supermarkets are offering.

Laufeythejust · 05/10/2021 10:56

I’ve got my order in. I’ve ordered the turkey, pigs in blankets and stuffing balls and Christmas puddings. I hope they can fulfil orders and don’t just take loads of orders knowing they won’t be able to meet them and it’s not a ‘your turkey has been subbed to a tin of chicken soup’ type situation.

NumberNineTwo · 05/10/2021 10:57

It’s a huge risk to pre order. If they can’t get stuff you’re screwed. It’s not as nice to get frozen supermarket food but at least if it’s in your freezer you know you’ve got it.

AnnaSW1 · 05/10/2021 11:22

Disappointed with their vegetarian offering. Seems to be the same as last year. But I'll probably still get all the prepared veg, starters and turkey from there still

Elmo22 · 10/10/2021 14:25

Thank you! I’m ordering this weekend 😊

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/10/2021 14:46

Not ordered but I was inspired by the Sticky Toffee Pudding and I dug out an old Delia Smith recipe and made 8 small ones .
Four eaten , 4 in the freezer . (They won;t make it to Christmas but I know I can make more . Flipping delicious they are too Xmas Grin )

I'm not making a cake this year but might be tempted to get a small one nearer the time .

I like breaded camenbert or brie , I don't think Id buy the brie en croute

I will go into M&S Foodhall nearer Christmas and have a good pld nosey about for crisps, dips and deli foods .

I don;t mind peeling and chopping the vegetables , but I'll buy red cabbage .
And you cannot beat roast potaoes done from scratch Xmas Wink

BlanketPiggy · 10/10/2021 14:48

I'm expecting headlines of how people have had Christmas ruined by a lack of pigs in blankets etc so am just going to get something in and freeze it
