Can anyone recommend something small in size the grandparent's can buy my 4yo boy that's not lego? They have a terrible habit of buying something HUGE in size that we just can't accommodate so would rather prompt them. I already know what he's getting from elsewhere so can't afford to give up anymore space. It's his bday in three weeks on top of Christmas 😬

CheshireChat · 15/09/2021 18:49

Ikea Manchester had a few bits from the Vinter collection, but I have to say I'm not a fan of this year's look so far, much preferred last year's.

Also, loads of red velvet stockings at my local B&M BTW, but hardly any Halloween stuff Hmm.

A game? The Orchard Toy games are great for that age range, and lots to choose from.
Iwantthesummersun · 15/09/2021 18:55

Has anyone ever bought a Typo mystery bag? Have seen them on their website but wondering if they’re worthwhile. DD12 loves their stuff so was wondering if it would be a good start to her stocking.

Would a voucher for a local farm/trampoline/soft play/cinema be any good?
ItsAllBlahBlahBlah · 15/09/2021 19:00

Great ideas, thanks @Rockhopper81 and @PinkDaydreams 🙂

Hot Wheels and track? It is a decent size made up but breaks up into sections for storage so might appease them.

My 4yo DS likes Avengers, lego, monster trucks/vehicles, orchard games, "find" books (generic versions of Where's Wally), little figures that you collect. Hope that helps with inspiration.

@sittingonacornflake please don't get taken in by the Wilko own Lego. It looks good value for money but you only have to look at it and it comes apart. I swore A LOT that Christmas when DS delegated me to build it as he couldn't. Once it fell apart it never got rebuilt and thrown into the spares box!!

MydeamonsanOstrich · 15/09/2021 19:07

Can't believe we're on thread 6 already. I usually follow from the start but have barely started yet this year. Instead I've been dealing with my mums estate following a sudden bereavement, so I'm joining now for some much needed positivity and Christmas cheer. And the usual bargains and great gift ideas of course.

We always get a family game for Christmas and I'm hoping for some advice from anyone who has, or has played the 'Ticket to Ride' games. DD will be just turned 7 this year and I'm torn between getting TTR Europe or going for the TTR junior game. I don't want it to be too complex that she doesn't engage, but if it's too simple and it won't keep her interested for long. Any experiences would be great. Thank you.

Duckyneedsaclean · 15/09/2021 19:13

@MydeamonsanOstrich at 7 Europe would be possible, but it is quite a long game. I think junior wouldn't be engaging enough though.
Ticket to ride London is shorter, simpler rules but still fun for grown ups - would recommend!

Sorry for your loss Flowers

Wolfcub · 15/09/2021 19:13

Mydaemon's get TTR Europe for definite.

MahMahMahMahCorona · 15/09/2021 19:13

@MydeamonsanOstrich - I'm so sorry for your loss.

We bought Ticket to Ride Europe over first lockdown for then DC7 and DC9. Skipped straight over junior version. It's excellent - it really is. Also bought Catan + Seafarers expansion, and Carcassonne. We are quite into board games. TTR and Catan far outdo Carc. in the gameplay / ease of picking it up in terms of both DC, tempted to get TTR US for Christmas.

FoolShapeHeart · 15/09/2021 19:19

My Bakedin order arrived today & dates are March/April next year, including the lemon margarita cupcakes which said online we're short dated (October maybe? We'll pre-Xmas anyway). Nice-looking gifts, same as the cinnamon buns, but had to pay a scandalous £3.75 for each 🤣

NeedMoreTea · 15/09/2021 19:29

@sittingonacornflake
Just a warning to keep an eye out with the Lego as my nephew choked on a small piece when he was 4 - his dad had to do the Heimlich manoeuvre on him and luckily it popped out. He wasn't a child who regularly put things in his mouth, just started absent mindedly sucking it while playing.

NightOwl19 · 15/09/2021 19:31

Can anyone recommend a sewing machine for a 9 year old please, she's had one before but it was abit rubbish, think it was from b&m for £15/20 and even though she loved it and tried so hard it didn't really work

Oh goodness, how absolutely terrifying SadSad

FoolShapeHeart · 15/09/2021 19:36

Espresso martini was the other flavour I got, and the code first25 took 25% off, post was £2.99.

AnotherOne4 · 15/09/2021 19:39

Can anyone remember the jewelry website/deal that was mentioned. I've tried searching, but can't find it Sad

How much do you want to spend? John Lewis own ones at £125 come in different colours and are great. I have one. It's easy to use and will last if she gets serious about sewing
butterflymum · 15/09/2021 19:41

@NightOwl19

Don't know how much you want to spend, but can recommend this Brother one, currently @ £75.27, which is a very good price for it.

oatmilkisntsobad · 15/09/2021 19:41

@NightOwl19 Should have added that my kids used it from about age 9

CasparBloomberg · 15/09/2021 19:45

Nothing says 1980's and early teen Christmas's like chocolate liqueurs Grin (or maybe advocaat snowballs with a cherryWink). I haven't seen them in decades, but spotted these in Costco £12.49 and thought I'd relive my wild youth Grin, or just use them to put in the crackers, or use as the loser's consequence prize, for Boxing Day games.

lolarabbit · 15/09/2021 19:52

@NightOwl19 this midi sewing machine from Hobbycraft might be worth a look if you don't want to spend too much. Currently £40.

shash1982 · 15/09/2021 19:52

asos has 20% off until 8am Friday. Apparently it's on everything, no code needed.

It's the cheapest that I've seen the Florence by Mills brand that teen DD is keen on.
