I only have lights and round, bright baubels on mine.

People think it sounds odd; bare somehow but it looks great!

So, do you go for a mish-mash of shapes, colours etc or are you a "structured" decorater? (decorator?!)

gemmiegoatlegs · 03/12/2007 09:23

we always have a real tree and i bought it early this year so I'm hoping it stays the course! Originally i had blue silver and gold baubles, silver beads and a star for the top.
I now have all the above, plus all the handmade decs from my son, coloured lights where you can have them on all the time or flashing in sequence. each year the dcs choose an ornament each, this year they chose painted wooden trains, i have slightly mismatched tree crackers and those tree chocs with smarties in them!

nobody else mentioned the tree chocs! Am i the only one who has them?

must have two names then ... bizarre!

BettySpaghetti · 03/12/2007 09:39

We have white lights, baubles, strings of beads and little wooden decorations (a red and silver theme generally). On top of that the DC tend to pile on all sorts of things they've "created" too

I just have (an abundance of) fairy lights and baubles. White fairy lights because I can't stand coloured ones, and the same metallic coloured balls that I have had for years.

Mum and other family members say that my tree looks a bit spartan, and I know that dd wouyld love to drape it in tinsel and all sorts, but I like to be able to see the tree underneath!

CharlieAndLolasMummy · 03/12/2007 09:46

lol at stylish non-tacky xmas trees, isn't that kind of missing the point?

We normally make stuff for the tree-biscuits and stars and so forth.

It looks like it has been decorated by a 2 yo and a 4 yo, thank christ.

I always think that those martha stewart on display in john lewis look massively depressing.

rudolphdoesntneedbratnav · 03/12/2007 09:50

Not sure yet, it's our first Christmas together, so we need to weed through what we both have, and probably hand over some of both to respective exes.

I usually have a red and gold theme, baubles, a really fab star that I got from Past Times and some bows that I made from wired ribbon, and also bits that the DDs have made (which don't match the overall colour scheme, but I wouldn't be without them)

rudolphdoesntneedbratnav · 03/12/2007 09:51

Oh, and heaps of white flashing lights

What do other people do about the rest of the house? Do you decorate just one room, the whole of downstairs, also what with?

nappyaddict · 03/12/2007 09:54

oh no not flashing lights. has to be static if you want a stylish tree!!

nappyaddict · 03/12/2007 10:17

ummm .. charlieandlolasmummy did!!

pollywollybauble · 03/12/2007 10:18

stuff everywhere, singing, dancing xmas tree in living room with big, messy, sparkly, twinkling tree; cards on red string and red gripper(though these always fall off),3 advent calenders (1 each) paper chains everywhere, russian doll santas and snowmen with gold balls on mantelpiece, oh and a dog in an armchair that sings "wonderful world" and sways if you press it's paw we are not tasteful, obviously

ABudafulSightWereHappyTonight · 03/12/2007 10:23

Harrumph tmsmj!!!

I'll have you know it look very pretty! It just seemed to "lift" the tree somehow.

PS Electric guitar should be leaving UK today for delivery here! A friend here runs a removal company and they had an empty truck coming over (with 2 dolls houses for her DD and another friend's DD) and I managed to get in to the act! Didn't even have to persuade DH (or blame you!) as when I brought subject up, DH had heard DS going on about it to a friend and thought we should get it!!!

ABudafulSightWereHappyTonight · 03/12/2007 10:23

"lookED" - I can speak proper!

Nemostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 03/12/2007 10:33

we have a little bit of tinsel, lights, lots of decorations this year it is red and silver stuff and wooden tradditional bits..very child orientated in terms of lots and lots ot look at and find.

Oblomov · 03/12/2007 10:34

We did our decorations yesterday.
Fibre optic tree that is really pretty and has stars on it. Added some silver tinsel and some silver baubles. We have silver tinsel, round the lights and mirrors and strings of bells for the cards. We have a lovely little christmas house, all lights up. And a non tasteful, moving santa thingy that sings jingle bells - which ds loves.
We have a wreath and sparkely lights on our front window and a tube and hangy down sparkely lights on our roof.
It sounds like alot, but it is not OTT at all.
I think it is quite tasteful, apart form the jingle bells thingy that dh and ds love more than anything else.
I have no chance of converting those two to tasteful

Hulababy · 03/12/2007 10:35

We have plain lights tucked into the tree and then decorate with baubles, a bit of tinsel and a bead chain thing. Have a selection of decorations now inc some DD has made. Most have a colour theme - just can't remember what as still up in the loft, lol!

ABudafulSightWereHappyTonight · 03/12/2007 12:13

Ah I see tmsmj! Sorry misunderstood!

(am used to doing what you tell me you see!)

VictorianSqualor · 03/12/2007 12:32

For the rest of the house, apart from tree we haven't had anything this year, although I am trying to find paperchains that the kids can make, I used to do them when I was a child, we have a wreath on the door and the tree outside has lights on and a few gold stars hanging from the branches.

PurpleLostPrincess · 03/12/2007 21:59

I've just posted something similar on another thread as I'm all excited to have found a Christmas room on mn!!!!

Our tree is purple, purple, purple:

Purple tinsel
Purple lights
Purple beads
Purple baubles
Purple ribbon
Purple icicles
The star at the top is gold but I'm on the lookout for a nice big purple one.

I'm hoping to get a picture of it up in the next week or so...
