I only have lights and round, bright baubels on mine.

People think it sounds odd; bare somehow but it looks great!

So, do you go for a mish-mash of shapes, colours etc or are you a "structured" decorater? (decorator?!)

Oh, and I used to be very particular about it being all symetrical etc but now the kids are old enough to decorate it properly so I let them get on with it really.

(Yes, the tree itself is purple too lol!)

MrsWeasley · 03/12/2007 22:03

we fill ours with everything. (new stuff, pre-school made stuff to old stuff from my childhood etc)

One year my brothers were given minature sets of football boots as part of a pressie and these were put on the tree, in a silly moment as a joke, and they are still part of my parents xmas tree decoration 35 years later!

PurpleLostPrincess · 03/12/2007 22:21

Awww, how sweet!

That reminds me, DS has got a special 'first Christmas' bauble that is engraved with his name and the year but DD1 never got one - I keep meaning to try and get hold of one for her and DD2 so they've all got one (purple or not!).

Dottydot · 03/12/2007 22:23

We have lights and tinsel and for the first time this year, home made Christmas Bobbles! dp and I have made red and white ones - very sweet. And a battered angel always goes on top of the tree - had her for years but wouldn't change her for anything - and dp and I always put her on the top of the tree together

PurpleLostPrincess, you're not a Prince fan by any chance, are you?

BurpyErnie · 04/12/2007 23:40

Small children and teenagers dusted with glitter (if they're not careful )

VeryLittleCarrot · 05/12/2007 00:57

oooo good thread...

real tree, plain white lights, red gingham hearts, gingerbread men, candy canes, wooden ornaments, raffia bows, little rag doll angels, tiny toys, red and gold baubles, teeny felt stockings, and every year I add a new ornament to remember that year with. A home-made rag doll angel with a tinsel halo on top.

I so needed a child to justify what is a very babyish tree. Yay for babycarrot's first Christmas!

When we get it, it will be a real tree, plain white lights and an assortment of decorations including 'first' xmas baubel for the boys. I used to do themed colours, now its very much mix and match, I have started adding just one new decoration every year and it will have anything on it that the boys make in the future

I think everyone should post pictures

shoshaliteupthetree · 05/12/2007 07:12

ours is decorated with all sorts, Ds has bought me a bauble since birt (Ok it was my Mom in his name in those days ) and I now have 29 from him, and he started buying one from DGd so have 12 from her, so we dont have any others on it now, all in different colours, on a fibre optic tree I bought three years ago, no tinel but stings of bells.

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 05/12/2007 07:25

Loads of stuff, all mixed up - baubles are mainly second hand, so lots of 50s/60s/70s from charity shops. Very cheap and interesting! Plus some that were massively reduced in posh dept store, all very bright colours/pretty.(I don't know why more people don't snap them up after Xmas!!)
Some little homemade pastry shapes/clay, painted..little birds and things...Russian angels, tinsel is white/cream, also from charity shop - looks kinda snowy! Coloured lights. It's very pretty...(bad) pic from last year on profile in a minute!

mumeeee · 05/12/2007 10:37

lots of differnt stuff. Tree decorations that my DDs have made over the years, bought tree decorations (some old and some new) Tinsel and lights, Oh and some chocolate tree decarations.
We decorate Hall and both main downstairs rooms. The girls usually decorate their bedrooms.

PurpleTinselPrincess · 06/12/2007 23:43

lol chipmonkey! Not particularly but I do like the fact that he is a purple person and I'd love his purple piano

jamila169 · 07/12/2007 00:51

I tried once to theme a christmas tree - but there wasn't room for all the old favourites and the bits the kids made and the bits we've collected over 12 years, so It looks exactly like it should - decorated by kids!
My mum still has a santa made by my brother when he was 5 (37 now!) and some glittery birds I made at junior school and we have some stuff that belonged to MIL which always goes up even though it's 60's plastic and glitter

PurpleTinselPrincess · 10/12/2007 07:42

Found a brilliant seller on ebay who personalises baubles and you can pick the colour, font, text etc. so I've just got one for DD1 even though its 9 years late! I can post details if anybodies looking for one...

Maidamess · 10/12/2007 08:07

I have red and zinc hearts, crystals with feathers, all different shapes and sizes but based round a theme of red, white silver and glass. With mini twinklers. Sigh looks lovely!
