Fluffy it was roasting in there, I'm sure the heating was on.🥵
They've got all the Christmas chocs and nibbles out replacing all of the gardening and back to school stuff some chocolate leapt off the shelf and into my trolley and so did a Snoopy T shirt 😳🤔 not sure how that only happens when DH isn't with me...
Woolly there's a massive cobweb down the side of the house we don't use.
70 TillyCat has just eaten a fly for pudding. 😹🤦🏻‍♀️

NoWordForFluffy · 07/09/2021 19:53

Woolly, mine are too. I'm hoping they ripen soon all 4 million of them! They should ripen eventually, it just needs patience. Chilli jam is so much prettier made with red chillies. 🌶

Shield bugs are cute, Firefly. As are ladybirds!

Wreck when I was 4 (1976) there were ladybirds everywhere so I have a soft spot for them.

WreckTangled · 07/09/2021 20:19

We always get loads in/on our house. They really gross me out.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 07/09/2021 20:20

Eek no puss ladybirds are bitey little beetles in pretty jackets!
1976 was fiercly hot (I was 10yo and people still talk about the Summerof '76)

The 70 cts like a butterfly for pudding , much lighter and more delicious than a fly Xmas Grin

Though femalecat likes snails .....

NoWordForFluffy · 07/09/2021 20:30

A ladybird once flew into my mouth as I was walking into the village. I spat it out fast it tasted exactly like you'd think!

My mum was pregnant during 1976. Lucky her! 🤣

I manhandle all bugs, including ladybirds.

As a result and because I was a grubby kid who didn't wash my hands after said manhandling, I can confirm that the yellow stuff they emit tastes horribly bitter. In case anyone had a burning need to know.

I've never been bitten by a ladybird, and I have handled a lot. Same with spiders. The only minibeast that's ever bitten me (apart from the obvious ants) was a centipede. I was not expecting it, and remember being most put out Grin

NoWordForFluffy · 07/09/2021 20:51

I'm pretty sure ladybirds don't bite! DD handles them loads and has never been bitten. 🤷‍♀️

I searched up online ...they do !

NoWordForFluffy · 07/09/2021 21:22

It's ineffectual then! 🤣🤣

@WreckTangled we had a ladybird infestation in my old house, every single year they flooded the place. Drove me absolutely shitting crazy, they came in their thousands and always managed to get in through old draughty windows and doors. BAD MEMORIES!

MeredithMae · 07/09/2021 21:47

Google ladybird infestation to see pics of them in their thousands!

CrazyBaubles · 07/09/2021 22:26

Biddy welcome back. I hope your DH is ok. Is the new job a move to even up the work like balance or to reduce stress?

I may actually look at the HGP at some point this week because my house needs a 'spring clean' but I'm getting nowhere fast with it.
First we need to do the gutters and wash everything outside - including conservatory, front door, all windows, power wash the drive etc.

Oh shudder about the spider Woolly. I found some webs on my washing line this morning - I didn't see any spiders but the thought of bringing them in on the clothes got me so I hosed it down Blush

When it was hot on school days I don't remember them doing much to help but I was not well behaved would regularly remove my tie & blazer regardless

Fluffy think DH finishes for Christmas on 17th too. It means he's around while I'm working for a week and I'm dreading it

Oh Wreck that's my worst nightmare. The ladybird phobia is bad here. No matter how much I try, I panic and react without thinking at all 😫

I think it was 2019, they were swarming everywhere locally and my lovely colleague would make sure there weren't any in the lift before I got in because he saw the reaction once (long story which ends with me getting myself panicked to tears Blush). It was awful, I can't imagine infestations. I'd have to move I think.

I definitely agree with the beetles in pretty jackets descriptions.

We had hardly any in the old house but I've seen quite a lot here when walking the dog. Luckily they've been at a distance so I can swerve them but just, eugh 🤢

As you can probably tell, I don't really deal with bugs!

Morning!

It's warmer this morning than yesterday morning. Bodes well...not!

Last day at work this week today. Who needs to do full weeks anyway?! It's my 4th either partial week or not being in at all! Back to the grindstone from next week, however!

Amazed at the ladybird haters. 😱😱 They're necessary bugs!

OP posts:
WreckTangled · 08/09/2021 07:36

It is really warm today. I didn't even need a jacket to and from the gym. Dd is still wearing tights as apparently 'no one wears socks' Confused have just ordered her an umbrella as she won't be able to wear a coat over her blazer and no doubt won't want to either.

NoWordForFluffy · 08/09/2021 08:03

I've been closing the greenhouse door overnight recently, and the temp has been at about 10°. Didn't close it last night; min temp was 16°! 😱🤣

Morning. I love ladybirds and their aphid eating ways. Also find shield bugs incredibly cute. They have babies in our chives and they are even cuter.

Last dry day (rain comes from around 4) for a few days so getting a load out as soon as possible.

Am not doing HGP this year as moving house. Hope the new house will be left reasonably clean!

WreckTangled · 08/09/2021 08:46

I've got some of WreckCat's flea spot on on my hand and, despite washing it three times, it's still so sticky!

CrazyBaubles · 08/09/2021 08:57

Morning!
Fluffy I try very hard with other bugs - even though I don't like them, I understand their purpose and put up with feeling uncomfortable with them around .
My grandparents used to send the grandkids out to collect them to put in the greenhouse to eat the aphids. I just can't deal with them. No idea why, I've been terrified since I was very small - I'm pretty sure there's a story in my family about the only time my mum was ever called in to school to collect me was when a horrible boy collected a few of them and threw them at me. I panicked so much it made me sick and school sent me home Blush - it was infants too so I could only have been about 6yo or so.

I got up early today and walked the dog first thing as it was too hot for him yesterday. It was actually a nice way to start the day.
It's warming up here now but was lovely and cool at 7 when I was out.
Apparently we're going to get up to 25° here but we have a yellow weather warning as we're due a thunderstorm so I'm glad I cleared the washing basket yesterday!

pussycatlickinglollyices · 08/09/2021 10:01

Morning.
DH has mowed the back lawn and trimmed some of the edges, but the sun it on most of it now so he'll finish it next week when it will no doubt need mowing again 🤔
Really warm here. 24 in the living room already. I've drawn all the curtains upstairs in a pathetic attempt to keep it cool. 🥵
I think/thought we're due thunderstorms overnight too, rain from about 9pm or 2am depending on whether you believe the fairy tale forecast from the BBC, which is never right wrong. Hmm

pussycatlickinglollyices · 08/09/2021 10:02

Wreck have you any white spirit or nail varnish remover? that will take away the "sticky" but leave your have very smelly instead

pussycatlickinglollyices · 08/09/2021 10:03

ffs have = hand 🤦🏻‍♀️

BiddyPop · 08/09/2021 10:25

It's still quite warm here, but gone cloudy and muggy. DDog got into our room this morning and pee'd on the bed, which she's never done before (she is very good normally, with only very rare nighttime accidents on the kitchen tiled floor, and never indoors in the daytime). So I will be sitting at the local petrol station (with a nice coffee) while the duvet gets washed in their large machine while the cleaners are here later...DH gets custody of "his" dog in his car...

I'm another in the "likes ladybirds" team - I can even handle most spiders (although we've got "false widows" here now which are venomous, eek!), but I cannot handle snakes, I have a recurring nightmare about them that wakes me for the rest of the night.

Cleaners have been short staffed recently so have missed the past 2 visits, so the house really needs it today. And tonight, we all have to go to an information night (in person!!) for a transition year programme for DD - but we should see a few friends there too, which will be nice (long time since we saw most of them).

Better get some work done

NoWordForFluffy · 08/09/2021 10:29

The BBC has no clue about weather forecasting. I use Met Office which, weirdly, has just sent a push notification for thunderstorm warnings as I've been typing this. 24 hours from 8 tonight.

OP posts:
pussycatlickinglollyices · 08/09/2021 10:39

I've just looked at the area covered by the weather warning - if you live south of a line between the wash and lands end, you're fine...anything north of that⚡☔⚡☔⚡ you might miss it or you might need an ark Hmm better off relying on a bit of seaweed. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Biddy Oh dear. Not a good start to your day.
