...cos I don't have a clue (as always) and I'm using my only half-decent idea for his birthday in early December. Thought I might be able to steal another MNer's genius suggestion

OP posts:
Fimbo · 27/11/2007 14:53

Leather glove, chocolate from Hotel Chocolat and my ds's nursery tea-towel which has self portrait pics on.

Fimbo · 27/11/2007 14:54

Of course I am giving him a pair of gloves not just the one...

Fil is getting a garden centre voucher and a fold up chair thingy by The National Trust which I got in Boots.

Baffy · 27/11/2007 14:55

He's asked for vouchers for the club shop of his favourite football team so he can get a book and the new shirt or something...

Nice and easy for me this year.

Have to have a dad who likes football for this one though!

Baffy · 27/11/2007 15:37

If it helps - just talking to best friend and getting her dad a tomtom sat nav thingy and bottle of his favourite whiskey

fireflyfairy2 · 27/11/2007 15:41

I'm getting mine a model of an old Ford tractor..... he's into vintage tractors.

HairyIrene · 27/11/2007 15:42

Tigerschick · 27/11/2007 15:50

This year:
Picture of dd (shared with my mum)
Turkish Delight - traditional
Probably a book or a calendar.

Previously:
CDs
DVDs
A leather fold-up tray for belongings to go in when he's away from home - this went down a storm and only cost about a tenner! Like this but much cheaper!
Ties
Whisky
A Quaich
...

dilbertina · 27/11/2007 16:44

calendar with photos of dd & ds

sushi kit (dh introduced him and he's a fan)

shrinkle key-ring thing my dd made with a picture she drew of him (in fact everyone is getting one of these with a portrait of themselves- I say portrait, more stick person - she's only 3)

dilbertina · 27/11/2007 16:46

FIL getting a Ukelele (his choice!)
cd
keyring thing
calender thing
an oversize mug

Fimbo · 27/11/2007 16:56

Lol HairyIrene

No, not a hint he is very good in the dishwashing department. In fact him and my mum are coming to stay for Christmas in 2 weeks time and he will hoover and stuff for me.

He loves anything that the dc have made, he will be overjoyed with the tea towel and he will say it's his best present!

womba1 · 27/11/2007 17:05

We've got my Dad a bottle of his favourite whiskey (Glen Morangie...sp?), a dressing gown, obligatory socks and a book.
From the dc's, we've got a cup and saucer which they've put their hand prints on.

For my FIL, a bottle of cointreau, golfing bits and the said cup with hand prints!

Both very easy to buy for and their best pressies, will obviously be from their grandchildren!!

janeite · 27/11/2007 17:29

My dad will also get whiskey and a couple of cds. In fact, if anybody could recommend a single malt whiskey that would be brilliant - last year I got him Isle of Jura (I think) which was well received.

Previous successes have included:

  • The biography of John Peel by his wife
  • sudoku (sp?) books
  • Duchy Originals cheese biscuits etc
  • posh marmalade etc
  • huuuuuuuuuuuuuge jar of pickled onions!!!
Tiggly · 27/11/2007 17:47

Janeite I can recommend the Tullibardine Whiskey which can be ordered online. My father loves it, and you can choose different flavours i.e. whiskey made from Port or Sherry barrels to give it a lsightly different flavour! I ordered one day and it was here within 48hours, even with the one that you can personalise the label (for our wedding next year I have bought him a bottle of his favourite and added a special message for him!). I am a bit pants at links so I hope this works...

crocs
books

janeite · 27/11/2007 17:54

Tiggly - that sounds fab (especially the Port one) but I'd prefer to buy something instore if possible. Thanks anyway.

thelittleElf · 27/11/2007 17:56

My dads got a Christian Lacroix watch and aftershave

BitTiredNow · 27/11/2007 18:29

one of those digital photo frames that you put your memory card into and it does a slide show. They are camera addicts and go camping a lot, so I thought it would be good in the caravan in the evenings.

PandaG · 27/11/2007 18:32

digital photo frame here too - shared with mum, and bought MIL and FIL the same too will preload with recent pics of DC, and other family members

Hulababy · 27/11/2007 18:44

Books that he has requested: Eric Clapton, Richard Hammond and some footballer one too. Will get some nice beer and chocs too I should think.

bohemianbint · 27/11/2007 18:47

I'm getting mine some good headphones for his ipod. And something else, god knows what, he's quite hard to buy for.
