...cos I don't have a clue (as always) and I'm using my only half-decent idea for his birthday in early December. Thought I might be able to steal another MNer's genius suggestion

A bloody expensive sculpture of two boxing hares made from old horseshoes-which he doesn't deserve, and I can't afford but hey-that's my family and Christmas for you.....

Mine is sharing a new 19" computer monitor with my mum. Another vote for a digital photo frame - FIL is getting one of those.

PuppyDogTails · 27/11/2007 20:04

A metal detector.

If I can find a cheap one.

StatlerAndWonka · 27/11/2007 20:08

Thanks for all the ideas so far but please keep 'em coming

WendyWeber · 28/11/2007 12:46

Blimey, Whooosh! They're amazing!

Much better than boring old socks too

fireflyfairy2 · 28/11/2007 18:20

Wow woooosh, has he seen it somewhere & asked for it specifically? It looks great!

Whooosh · 28/11/2007 21:59

No he hasn't (well as far as I know) and I haven't spoken to him since early Sept (long story) but he has beautiful gardens and I just thought they would look amazing there.
Was an answer to "what do you buy the gitman who has everything?

I absolutely love his work-he made a full size family of elephants for a local stately home-just amazing.

Just today I went to the football club shop and bought him a fleece jacket. Next week DD is going to paint a mug for him (got him an Emma Bridgewater mug last year, which he still uses, but I know he's glued the handle back on at least twice).

busybusymummy · 28/11/2007 23:07

2 books here - 1 on classic cars, and the other full of lovely places to visit in France..

DD has decorated him a "Grandad" egg cup.

WalkinginaWonkaWonderland · 29/11/2007 09:35

Oooooh busybusymummy - please could you let me know the title of the France book because that really could be a possibility .

Thank you in anticipation!

Thanks HairyIrene - you may well be right! But if anybody has any other suggestions for a good single malt that would be great - it's his birthday on Christmas Eve as well so maybe he could have TWO bottles!
