just thinking a head, does anyone know what colours will be in for Christmas and decorations this year? Am trying to be organised for once!

Gold, definitely gold

Stompythedinosaur · 17/07/2021 17:52

Chez Stompy it will be an eclectic mix, as always!

Surely you can just pick colours you like?

Holothane · 17/07/2021 18:09

For me same as last year my beautiful snow capped tree no decorations and my wooden advent calendar.

Longbarn5 · 17/07/2021 20:04

Going for red, green and silver for the main tree. Loved the rose gold and silver last year. Was really stunning. Like to change though. Probably red and white for dining room and rose gold for small hall tree

AlwaysLatte · 17/07/2021 20:06

I didn't know tree fashions were a thing! I just buy one or two lovely baubles every year so it's a real mix! Tree is real so no colours to think about with that.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 17/07/2021 20:15

A plethora of mismatched stuff bought on holidays on the tree for us, as usual, with some red, white and pale blue mixed through to make it look a little more consistent. Though arranged carefully and possibly some of them not being put out, because we're getting two kittens next weekend.

I'm edging in the direction of more natural decorations elsewhere, so homemade wreaths and garlands with red velvet ribbon, dried orange slices, bay leaves - that sort of thing. Whatever I drag in from the garden.

irresistibleoverwhelm · 17/07/2021 20:42

Last year DD rebelled against my tasteful rustic White Company decs and warm white lights, and demanded multicoloured lights and bright tat - and my god it was nice, such a tonic after a year of lockdown.

This year again we'll be doing a "throw it all on in as many colours as possible" theme Grin

Oh indeed they are Xmas Grin

At the Millenium , it was all about silver
A couple of years ago I noticed a lot of teal and pastel pink . IMO . not Christmas colours so not getting near my tree.

When my DC were smaller , I had gold/bronze , silver/clear glass and traditional red/green/gold .
Each year , I decided which area had which colour ( the bannister , the arch between the dining room -loung and the mantlepiece ) varied each year .

Past couple of years we have the cats who wreck the tree , so only warm white lights on the tree and some on the bannister .

Fivemoreminutes1 · 18/07/2021 10:50

I bought heavily into the Scandi trend of white and red, and I’ll be getting my money’s worth by using it for the foreseeable future. Might augment it with a bit of gold and some Kraft

puppylambkins · 18/07/2021 10:57

First year in ages I think I'll get a tree up as possibly DDog has reached stage of maturity that he won't wreck it! Also in nee house on my own so I can plan whatever I want!!! So watching this thread for ideas

73kittycat73 · 18/07/2021 11:49

I've got white and silver, with a few bits of purple thrown in. White and silver are definitely out this year as I've been finding it really hard to find wrapping paper in those colours!

Cherryrainbow · 18/07/2021 12:10

I might go for just gold this year in living room with tree etc and silver again for dining room. For some reason I thought I might get some disney decs but I'm on the fence with that one, wdyt?

I have a stash of things that are red, gold, scandi, purple, jewel tones. I went for traditional red green gold etc last xmas cos it was babys 1st Xmas.

Longbarn5 · 20/07/2021 19:14

I think you should go with whatever you feel is right for you. Everyone's trees will look lovely and Christmasy. Christmas decs are like babies, in my opinion, they are all beautiful, just different

Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo · 20/07/2021 19:20

I think darkish blues, gold and neutral browns/beige/kraft maybe orange.

Or, pure nostalgia with ruby red shiny foil ceiling decorations and a mash of colour!

Ninkanink · 20/07/2021 19:22

I don’t follow trends so I wouldn’t have a clue but I’m guessing either very traditional/nostalgic or pale golds/neutrals/muted.

My own scheme is likely to be centred very much around gold/silver/champagne/white/frosted. Perhaps a pop of red.

Newnormal99 · 20/07/2021 20:06

My decorations are mainly red and white, mainly felt, knitted and tin types. Only a few baubles.

I sometimes fancy changing the colour scheme but cannot imagine the cost to kit another tree out from scratch........

AliceMcK · 20/07/2021 20:17

This is why you need multiple trees, to cover all the options.

My main tree/house decorations changed from several years of black/silver & blues to blush/pinks and golds last year. I will be sticking with this this year.

I have my classic greens and reds one that the dc decorate with a grinch theme too. All the fun decs go on this.

Then each dc has there own bedroom ones, as I have all girls there are lots of pinks/purples/silvers, lots of frozen themed decs and princesses. We put all the school/nursery made decs on these usually too.

DH has his Star Wars themed one, which to be fair I love prob more than him.

I have a Harry Potter themed tree too.

I also have a food themed one, gingerbread people, cupcakes, ice creams, mini kitchen utensils etc which goes in the kitchen.

I like to collect decorations from around the world and places we visit. They tend to go on the trees they match the most at the time, but I’m hoping once my collection gets bigger to have a specific travel themed tree eventually.

irresistibleoverwhelm · 20/07/2021 22:37

Shock how many trees have you got @AliceMcK?! Shock

StevieNix · 20/07/2021 22:40

Red and pink for us same as last year. Sounds absolutely terrible but it actually looked beautiful!

Nanalisa60 · 20/07/2021 22:54

I’m going for the same as last year , and the year before, because I’m to mean to keep buying new stuff!! , I did buy a balsam hill tree last year in the Black Friday offers and I must admit I was very pleased with it

I had 8 up last year, but I don’t always put all of them up every year 😁 They arnt all big, they range from 4’ to 8’ 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
Ninkanink · 20/07/2021 22:59

Last year I did my colourful scheme, which is what I’ve done for the last five or six years. I rarely buy more ornaments now - I might buy the odd one only if there’s something I really love. I’ve got loads already.

All my children are adults, and were given the ornaments they chose each year growing up to start off their own trees.

So last year I did a small wooden twiggy tree with the remaining family ornaments and nursery makes as a Memory Tree.
And for the main tree I did a beautiful vintage tree in mainly muted blue and green, and a soft brown. I loved it so much and will repeat the set same set up this year

Ilovemyshoppingtrolley · 21/07/2021 18:03

Thanks to everyone who answered. I personally have pink and silver decorations but I have been making tree skirts to sell nearer Christmas and just wanted to make sure I was getting colours right.

Mainly red, green and gold here. A total mix of decorations bought over the years from my own childhood and DS... I love all of them such as mini rocking horses, elves, a few disney (he has chosen one each year)... Oh and I have tarten ribben usually
