I think I'd like to buy a DS Lite (pink) ......

Do I want touch screen or dual screen? (I imagined they'd be the same)

Are they stopping the pink ones?

Should I be happy with a deal that includes 3 games (I'm lead to believe thats a false economy).

I AM A VIRGIN.

bump for you- i am in same situation!

FozzieKbear · 21/11/2007 23:24

don't they all have dual screens? Pink ones still around I think. Depends what games they are and if you will like them. They are sometimes the crap games in the bundles.

JingJanglingBexieHoHoHo · 21/11/2007 23:26

They all have dual screens and the bottom one is the touch screen! I don't think they'd stop doing the pink ones.

corblimeycharlie · 21/11/2007 23:26

DD has a pink one and it has two screens but only one is touchscreen, maybe the newer ones have dual touch screens?

JingJanglingBexieHoHoHo · 21/11/2007 23:33

You're probably better off getting the console in a one game bundle and buying any other games 2nd hand.

JingJanglingBexieHoHoHo · 21/11/2007 23:34

No, they all only have the one touch screen.

CripleH · 22/11/2007 00:07

The design of the DS hasn't changed. It has two screens and, as Bexie says, the lower one is the touchscreen. I don't think they've stopped making the pink version, it sells loads.

Everybody knows that you'll have two cartridge slots right? The upper one is for DS games, the lower one is for Gameboy Advance games. It's the first portable Nintendo console that doesn't play the original Gameboy games though so if you have a Tetris cart from 1988 then forget about it.

MrsBoo · 22/11/2007 09:41

You can get good deals at places like Argos and Game. So a DS and a game bought together will cost less than bought separately.
I totally recomend Game, if there is one near you. The staff at ours are so helpful, and flexible.
Depenging on your DD, or perhaps its for you - it has been the best toy we ever bought for our DS. He got it when he was 6, before that you will be restricted to the non-reading type games.
Lots of really popular games out there. They hold their value, so buying second hand is still over £20 in lots of cases.

frumpygrumpy · 22/11/2007 10:18

Thanks girls! I feel less of a virgin now.

(It was the nintendo website that seemed to list the dual screen and the touch screen separately )

OI gabby FG where've you been?

frumpygrumpy · 22/11/2007 10:23

One last clueless question........

If I buy online, will it come with everything I need? Charger etc? Or do I need to buy it all separately.

Are the carry cases advantageous to have or not necessary? Do they come in different colours?

Its for my DD BTW. She's almost 7.

hi dingdong Gaby my flabby arse!!!!

I met lg&t on here yesterday and I just didn't have a minute to get to our thread. I'm desperately using my limited pc time to try to start christmas shopping but as you can see its the MN posse that are saving me

OP posts:
inamuckingfuddle · 22/11/2007 10:28

have done all my christmas shoping on line this week, being off work sick has its advantages at this time of year

frumpygrumpy · 22/11/2007 10:29

Another clueless question (I see you yawning )......

Are DS and DS Lite different things?

OP posts:
MrsBoo · 22/11/2007 10:29

The DS comes with a charger. They are quite fragile, and you might want to consider a carry case/bag. Or she could get one of these afterwards. Lots of different designs, normally zipped/padded, which you can either use to carry your DS and some games, or some you can slide the DS into, and just unzip it to play - so it's kindov still protected.

frumpygrumpy · 22/11/2007 10:31

Please may I have some?

Can I get signed off sick even if I'm a SAHM?

Will someone come in every day and take the children away between say 9 and 3pm? That should do it

OP posts:
frumpygrumpy · 22/11/2007 10:31

MrsBoo you are a goddess.

OP posts:
JingJanglingBexieHoHoHo · 22/11/2007 10:35

You get the charger in the box. A case is good to keep it all up together with games, or the console on it's own.

When I mentioned 2nd hand games, I wasn't thinking off getting them in Game as they are only like £5 cheaper than new. I was thinking more of Mumsnet (just got 3 good games for £30) and Ebay. Possibly even Virtual Games or Gamestation? Not been in the last 2 for awhile, even though they just opened a Gamestation here!

I love Nintendo! I have every Nintendo console, except the original NES and the Wii. I'd like a Wii, but we just don't have time to play anything!

JingJanglingBexieHoHoHo · 22/11/2007 10:36

The DS lite is smaller than the DS and has a better screen.

frumpygrumpy · 22/11/2007 10:38

Jing you are a goddess too!

Frumpy - I want a pink DS for dd3 and have ordered one from Amazon. They are, however, out of stock, as are John Lewis. If you find a plentiful source could you post on here and let me know as I cannot be sure amazon (given past experience) will come through before Christmas?

frumpygrumpy · 22/11/2007 17:45

Certainly me dear, I will. I haven't sourced one yet but my local GAME store is expecting a delivery on Tuesday. Argos will send a text to your mobile when they get them in and then hold it for you for a short while.

I swore I'd never get hooked on getting a particular thing for Christmas

OP posts:
CoffeeCrazedMama · 22/11/2007 19:02

Thanks so much. I hadn't thought of Game, and that is a great tip about the Argos text messages. I have a choice of stores to register with around here, too.

I too always used to be a bit of a Christmas purist and was quite scornful about people selling their grandmothers for a Tracy Island and all that... Sixteen years of parenting have done terrible things to my standards!

piximon · 22/11/2007 19:03

my brother bought something on the internet to add to his DS Lite which then saves the games on it, so he can play any game he's copied onto it without having to carry them around with him.

I do think it's a really good idea, esp for long trips when you don't want to have to carry games with you, or to save worrying over DCs loosing the games. However, since I guess it means that you don't have to copy only games you have bought I guess it's not much publicised, or it might be, but not owning one, I have no idea.

FG sorry to hear your news, you've been really missed.

CripleH · 22/11/2007 23:39

Piximon, it might seem handy by saving you carrying all the games about but it's highly illegal. Any attempts to make copies of games will result in Mario coming around your house and bouncing on your head.
