Cannot even begin to think what to buy ds1 for xmas- what are you getting your ds???

OP posts:
MrsSlocomb · 16/11/2007 16:18

Dr who stuff mainly, laser screwdriver, lego bionicle, books, dvd's

Whizzz · 16/11/2007 16:21

He says he wants a metal detector ! He hasn't really mentioned anything else as yet (his birthday wasn't that long ago, so we still have stuff not played with from that!!). Some of the National Geographic sets look quite good too or may be one of the kids electric circuit type boxes of experiments

Bink · 16/11/2007 16:32

ds was 7 last Christmas ... hmm, now what did he get?

Guinness Book of Records (you have to, really, it's traditional); an elaborate marble-run thing called Skyrail (from all of the grandparents clubbed together); Philip Reeve's Larklight; some cut-out-and-assemble mathematical model kits; a Puzzler QuizKids subscription.

BoysAreLikeReindeer · 16/11/2007 16:34

Nintendo DS - have bowed to peer pressure sigh

Lego

Geomag set

PJs

That's it

saltireflyingatHampden · 16/11/2007 16:41

Dr Who things mainly.
A couple of books. Thats it at the minute.
he is into Dr Who, Robin hood and Harry potter

totaleclipse · 16/11/2007 16:45

A skateboard
A remote control car
Magnetix
A keyboard

mintydixcharrington · 16/11/2007 16:46

Nintendo DS
Gave Guinness Book last year (HUGE success) and this year have found similar sized book called "Oh Yuck!" which is full of gruesome and gross facts about all sorts of things (biology mostly) which I'm hoping will be just as successful.
Gave a metal detector for 7th birthday which was v popular
Have also got a chess set called "quick chess" which has pics of the moves etc that each piece makes around the side in the hope that he'll learn chess

apart from that things for stockings like top trumps, goggles for swimming, and a small book on how to make silly shadow shapes with a torch

totaleclipse · 16/11/2007 16:47

Oh and hes asked for something he has seen on telly called, grusome magic
Oh and a spacehopper

totaleclipse · 16/11/2007 16:48

Oh another I forgot, scaletrixs(sp)

ambercat · 16/11/2007 16:52

new bike as his main present

some books

a rubix cube ( no doubt it will become a toy of frustration!)

a dvd

Playmobile

Maidamess · 16/11/2007 16:54

Lots of books, as the reading penny has just dropped, and lots of Playmobil.

pointydog · 16/11/2007 16:55

quite a few spy kits about that look quite good

bagpuss · 16/11/2007 16:55

Lego Creator (I think that is what it is called). He can build a moving dinosaur with it apparently but I bet dh ends up doing most of it .

Actually, most of his stuff is lego as that is all he seems to want.

Stocking is going to be books (horrid henry and capt underpants etc), a set of juggling balls, a bag of little plastic toy soldiers plus some more little lego sets and a jigsaw and sweets/chocolate coins. There is some other stuff but I can't remember at present. DS1 is the only one I have finished buying for too!

ginnedupumpkin · 16/11/2007 16:56

Mine is getting a Wiii (from his dad) so I'll get him some games for that (The Simpsons is what he's asked for) other than that he wants anything to do with Pokemon, lego, a magic set ... the list is endless!)

Last year I got him some heelys. What a waste of money - he's got 2 left feet and spent more time on his bum than upright!!!

Buda · 16/11/2007 16:57

Well DS is 6 but prob similar really.

PS 2 Fifa 08 game
2 nintendo DS games
Sponge Bob lego
Lego City thingie
Star Wars Monopoly
Set of Famous Five books
Scooter

Oh - and a Wii.

I know it is totally over the top but he really wants an electric guitar which we don't want to get him this year as he has only just started learning guitar so the Wii is a surprise (and is mainly cos DH discovered you can play cricket on it) and will be billed as a family present.

MrsBoo · 16/11/2007 16:57

Nintendo DS, or more games if he already has one. Give in they are brilliant. Lego, the house building one if you can find it is brilliant. Dr Who things.
that's the jist of what we got DS last year
when he was 7, and he still plays with everything.

Maidamess · 16/11/2007 17:00

Coo, you lot are generous at Christmas. I'm feeling mean now!

quandry · 16/11/2007 17:03

What we've bought DS1 (who is 7 now, but will be 8 by Xmas):

Lego Creator 4958: RC Dino
Beano comic maker
Wind up torch (blue)
Paper plane calendar
Dragonfly Radio Controlled Insectoid
rubix cube key ring
Electromag system
Cube world
Magic Tree

Other ideas/ stocking fillers (but not yet bought) are:

puzzle books
yugioh cards
rock music cds
rock school books
Gameboy game?
Klutz books?
Chocolate coins
Bubble bath
character toothbrush
bath toy things
sweets/ selection box

How do I know in so much detail? 'Cos I've been online ALL day ordering stuff, and keeping a running total of what I've bought for each of them, and how much I've spent (in a spreadsheet )

pointydog · 16/11/2007 17:05

what a lot of stuff

quandry · 16/11/2007 17:08

I won't buy all the second list - it was just ideas (also forgot to add that some of those presents will be given for his birthday which is also in Dec!)

Buda · 16/11/2007 17:26

I know I have gone over the top but he is an only child and one of the benefits should be being spoilt so this year I have done it! And my sister's DCs will prob still get more than him.

And his teacher pulled me to one side today and told me how good he is and how polite in class and he has just given me a big big cuddle so he deserves it.

quandry · 16/11/2007 17:30

Sounds fine, Buda....

I always think with things like a Wii they are really a present for the whole family, but giving them as a present for the DC is a good excuse for buying them!

Unlike a lot of our friends, we're not constantly buying our children toys/ DVDs/ games etc throughout the year, so as a result they seem to get more at Christmas and birthdays.

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 16/11/2007 17:37

A Fur Real cat
clothes
Some cars

DS (7) has various SNs tho so probably not all that helpful

Wordsmith · 16/11/2007 17:39

He wants a Man Utd strip with his name on the back - have found JJB sports do it but in total it's nearly £50 .

We'll probably also get him a computer game and The Order of the Phoenix DVD, and a few things for a fiver.

He did want a Nintendo DS but it's just too expensive!

Aiming to spend max £70 on each child. Have a 3 yr old as well. have bought him a fab Sportacus costume from Argos and he's getting a kiddy CD player.

Peachy · 16/11/2007 17:45
