OP posts:
Peachy · 16/11/2007 17:48

(Quandary LOL- not only is your DS the same age as mine- ds1 will be 8 by Christmas also- its the same lego set, same RC toya nd i also have the spreadsheet )

Buda · 16/11/2007 17:50

LOl at spreadsheets!

DH has a spread sheet of our financial future and actually asked me when I was planning to die! I reckon he is unlikely to trade me in for a younger model though as she would be around to spend his money for longer! )Sorry slight hijack)

Peachy · 16/11/2007 17:52

PMSL Buda!

have informed Dh I will die at 88, in August. On the eighth. He wants to hang around just to see if I am right LOL (but its probably some bizarre connotation of the No 8 I am not aware of LOL)

Buda · 16/11/2007 17:56

Lol Peachy!

In what year will you be 88 then?

Peachy · 16/11/2007 18:07

according to the calculator, 2066

not yet then LOL

Peachy · 16/11/2007 18:08

(thats actually weird in that- my DOB is 8/7, age 88 in the 8th month, date 66...... not exactly spanning the realms of the numerological scale is it? pmsl)

Buda · 16/11/2007 19:37

Def sorta weird!

Sorry - had to go - DS wanted food and then DH came home.

quandry · 16/11/2007 21:17

LOL peachy! I think they're on the 7-8 year old boy's 'most wanted' list this year!

The spreadsheet is a must for me because:

  • it allows me to keep track of how many presents I've bought (to check that DSs have fairly equal numbers)
  • to check how much I've spent (keep to an approximate budget) and also to feel that I'm being fair by spending about the same amount on each

and also

  • to deter DH from doing his usual eleventh hour random shop of the only stuff left/ random tat by being able to give him a copy of the kids' list and say 'this is want we (sic) got them, is there anything you want to add?'
tiredemma · 17/11/2007 08:32

Thanks everyone.

Some good ideas here!!

He had a Nintendo DS for last christmas- its so hard to work out what to buy them isnt it?

OP posts:
mintydixcharrington · 17/11/2007 13:32

ah, my ds has also asked for a snooker table! Not the full monty obviously, just a small one. So thats another idea if anyone has the space for a 5 footer anywhere... not sure mine is going to get one, maybe for 8th birthday

smartiejake · 17/11/2007 14:16

How about a multi games table. They sell them in argos. One of dd2s friends has one and she thought it was really great.
look at this page

becklebigbump · 17/11/2007 14:30

DS1 has asked for a Nintendo DS, so it will be that, a couple of games for it (ebay), some geomag and a scooter.

I don't think you are tight Boysarelikereindeer! When they are 7 I think they are old enough to understand the quality of presents is as important as the quantity and if you want an expensive toy (which will take Father Christmas longer to make than a cheap one...) then you will likely not get much else.

Does anyone else's 7yo still believe in Father Christmas? Feel a bit sad as I imagine this might be the last year he truly does believe.

becklebigbump · 17/11/2007 14:31
Sad
spottyshoes · 17/11/2007 14:53

SS Has about 6 games consoles spread bewteen ours and his mothers and usually gets games for them from everyone, so we get him books, pjamas in his latest craze and tickets to go and see something. For his birthday he went to WWE and for Xmas it'll be that high School Musical thing (think that's more for his dad though )

He used to get nearly £1000 spent on him between the 2 families which is utterly spoilt and pretty appalling in my book, so when we married I made dh cut the xmas budget by x10! Wicked Stepmom

spottyshoes · 17/11/2007 14:54

SS is 8 and he still believes! I'm a personal friend, not only of Santa's, but the Toothy Fairy & Easter Bunny doncha know!

Bink · 17/11/2007 15:05

ds also got a walkie-talkie thing, when he was 7, which he loved despite its never working properly

worleybear · 17/11/2007 15:14

Whizz - we got ds1 a metal detector last year, the only time he used it was eater when we had an easter egg hunt and i buried a clue in a tin in the garden. oh actually i just thought on boxing day i threw pennies randomly around the garden and he searched for them.

this year he wants - ready for this...
an ipod, a laptop and a flatscreen tv with a dvd combo in the back or something that he has like it somewhere??

hes not interested in a Wii, but we have got him some various audiocd books he likes, some books, some starwars airfix kits i got in tkmaxx for a fiver each, a transformers watch and he will get a selection box maybe. so as for main present, dont know what to get him, its his birthday in 2 weeks though

Elphaba · 17/11/2007 15:19

Ds1 is 6.5 and so far he has:

Decent bike and helmet
Game - operation
Horrid Henry and Captain Underpants books
Horrid Henry puzzle books
Man U notebook and pen

Loads of little stocking fillers - wooden naughts and crosses, pens, small cars, mini K-NEX set, toothbrush, chocolate, one of those expandable face cloth things etc etc.

Blandmum · 17/11/2007 15:20

Ds is agoing to share with his big sister a 'Green machine h2o' Go cart with super soaker attachment to you and me!

He also manst some lego and some Lord of the rings play figures

For those that have given way to the DS my ds playes with his on every long journy that we go and and has been fantastic!

tiredemma · 17/11/2007 15:23

Ds1 loves HSM- might have a look around for some bits from there.

Also going to try and get him either England v Ireland or England v wales ticket for six nations ( when they go on sale though)

each year gets harder.

Ds2 is easy to buy for- as long as its either Tweenies, Cars or Nemo he is happy as larry.

Whizzz · 17/11/2007 16:04

worleybear - yes I don't expect he will actually use it much - but of course, you can't tell him!! We are probably just going to get a cheapo one and concentrate on buying him some other decent stuff

revolver · 21/11/2007 10:58

We're buying our 7 year old an electric guitar as he's told us that he wants one. You can pick up kids guitars for around £60-£70 including p&p. I play guitar myself so know a bit about it. Check this out:

www.gear4music.com/Electric_Guitars/G4M_Kids_Electric_Guitars/3--4_Electric-ST_Guitar plusMiniampBlacksefv4.html

I've mailed the company and asked them if it's suitable for a 7 year old because although it says it's a children's guitar I want to be sure they don't mean older children.

Or these item numbers on Ebay:

220171492213
140179869187 (I'd go for this one)
110193660571
270187703972

Does your DS have a Playstation 2 or 3? My boys are obsessed with the two Star Wars Lego games and you should be able to pick the first game up for a bargain price.

Pixel · 21/11/2007 22:30

Ds has got a half share (with his sister) in a trampoline.
