Leaving my outdoor Christmas lights up...

Ok so I’ve taken in the Santa train and the candy canes but the gutter icicles and tree fairy lights aren’t explicitly Christmassy so it’s acceptable to leave them up until, say, Easter? Yes?
I don’t care. I’m doing it. Grin

Mine are still outside but only because its so icy here I'm scared to put a ladder on it to get the icicles down

husbandcallsmepickle · 05/01/2021 10:31

I've taken down everything except for the white fairy lights as they look pretty and will probably stay up for the foreseeable future

Wellthisismorethanabitgrim · 05/01/2021 10:31

Ours are still up, and most of our estates are too. I think they look pretty and cheery, at a time when we really, really need some cheer!!

OHolyTights · 05/01/2021 10:42

White lights rather than particularly Christmas themed here and they stay up till Feb 2 usually, especially as we don't really have street lights - but will probably stay up longer this year. Some of us more than others, but we all need some light in our lives, especially right now and for the coming months. I am also thinking Easter at least, realistically.

SorenLorensonsInvisibleFriend · 05/01/2021 10:48

One more vote for keeping them up. Cheerful, innit. And the children are fans!

WhispersOfWickedness · 05/01/2021 11:13

I'm keeping mine up too! Well, at least until the batteries run out Grin

Youseethethingis · 05/01/2021 15:48

I’m so glad I’m not alone! I do think the world is literally and metaphorically too dark to take them down yet.
DH is huffing a little bit but he’s too lazy to take them down himself so he’s going to have to live with it Grin

Keeping mine on my bush! Never had them before and I love them. Also we have some warm ones wrapped round our bookcase (indoors) which are still up from three Christmasses ago!

Rocococo · 05/01/2021 15:52

Do it OP. I think they look lovely.

TeenPlusTwenties · 05/01/2021 15:53

I take coloured ones down but leave white ones on a tree up until Feb half term or so.

However this year I received as an xmas present some new coloured lights (about 25% of existing bulbs are gone), which obviously aren't up yet. So I could take down the 'xmas' ones and then just put up the new ones, couldn't I?

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 05/01/2021 15:56

Gets my vote!!!

Lots of neighbours took theirs down last night 😥

Youseethethingis · 05/01/2021 16:21

Eggbert has a sparkly bush Xmas Grin
Do it, Teen, we are all behind you!

Boredof2020 · 05/01/2021 17:40

Leave them up it makes people smile x

CookEatRepeat · 05/01/2021 17:43

It looks like only one of our neighbours have taken theirs down. Lots of beautiful lights still in our street! Xmas Smile

padsi1975 · 05/01/2021 17:48

I was out for a run yesterday morning and the lights that are still up made me feel really happy. Wish more were up, we all need it.

EeeehElsie · 05/01/2021 18:30

Our decorations are staying up til Candlemas. We're usually Twelfth Nighters but this year we wanted to keep the joy going. DD and I have just been for a walk and loads of people still have indoor and outdoor lights and decorations up, far more than usual, and it's lovely. Ours went up earlier than usual, too (mid November while we're usually first Sunday in advent types). I really, really, really don't want to get rid of them! We always have loads of fairy lights around the place all year anyway so it won't be so different.

And in March we can decorate for Easter!

pierpressure · 05/01/2021 18:40

I would have done, but some horrible git cut the cables. It’s been a thing round here Angry

Chasingsquirrels · 05/01/2021 18:42

I haven't taken mine on the garage down since the woodwork was last painted, so 5 years ago.
They aren't switched on year round, but I certainly have them on in January.

IamEarthymama · 05/01/2021 18:55

I am keeping my lights up until Imbolc, February 1st.
I would usually travel to Glastonbury that day to celebrate the return of the light and to meet up with friends.
As that won't be happening this year I intend to keep the light show going!

I am releasing the Yule tree back into the Wild as it lives in the garden apart from these few weeks.
I might put the solar outdoor lights on it too 🎄

Another person keeping their decorations up until Candlemas. Any excuse.....

Alonelonelyloner · 05/01/2021 23:06

I did this last year (we're in a flat) and the miserable neighbours came round and asked, 'have you still got your artificial lights on your balcony?' And i straight faced replied, 'no. What artificial lights? How very very strange!'

She was so shocked by my response that she never mentioned it again.

Butterymuffin · 06/01/2021 01:20

@Alonelonelyloner that's brilliant!Grin

I am up for this. Might actually swap some lights around so it's a new display but they're still there.

grassisjeweled · 06/01/2021 01:32

Yes, that's fine

BiddyPop · 06/01/2021 09:44

We only have plain lights wrapped around the trunk of a silver birch, and they are staying up for a while yet. But the inside tree was taken down at the weekend.

Lots of lights have already come down locally, especially those which are particularly Christmassy. But there are also a huge amount of lights that went up this year compared to normal, and a LOT of plain lights are still up (and even some festive ones). Quite a few people have removed the particularly festive ones (candy canes, reindeer, etc) but have left the plain ones up on trees, gutters, roofs, wrapped around balconies, etc.
