Looking for prepping tips, let’s all hope for a better one next year 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Ive put the lights away neat and tidy so its easy for next year...

Also plan on putting £20 a month aside to buy myself a nicer artificial tree for next year, current one is looking a bit tatty.

But thats all I'll do until about october 😂

lorisparkle · 03/01/2021 08:58

I always write my Christmas food and drink shopping list in the back of my diary. I also make a note of things we do or don't need (for example we don't need any more Christmas cards as we have loads but do need wrapping paper).. This makes life easier when stuff starts appearing on the shelves as I would have forgotten from the year before!

I also have bought a few stocking fillers in the sales!

FippertyGibbett · 03/01/2021 09:03

I put my Xmas card list and food shopping list in the box with my decorations, should make it a bit easier next year.
I’ve put my unused Xmas cards and wrapping stuff in a bag so I know where it is.
I also had a good throw out of decorations that I’ve kept for years and never used.

SushiGo · 03/01/2021 09:06

I've got some stocking fillers in the sales, and this year we threw out decorations we haven't used for a while.

TheSockMonster · 03/01/2021 09:09

I’ve taken lots of photos of how I’ve done things like the banisters this year, so I can skip the trial and error stage next year.

I am packing everything away today and have bought extra boxes so I can impose some order upon it all.

I also plan, as Flipperty has, to sort out the bits that can be thrown/donated.

HelloDulling · 03/01/2021 09:11

Couple of presents in SpaceNK sale, might get wrapping paper in M&S if they still have some.

AlexaPlayWhiteNoise · 03/01/2021 09:47

I typed the Christmas menu and corresponding food shop and saved it so that there's a rough plan already for next year with the aim being to cut down food waste.

I have a list of everything I buy in an attempt to not over buy. I start in June just buying bits and pieces, and writing ideas down.

RuthW · 03/01/2021 09:51

I've started by spreadsheet of pressies and ideas and bought a few things in sales.

I've started making my cards.

Iseeyoulookingatme · 03/01/2021 09:55

I've got ds his Christmas jumper a long sleeved top and pyjamas for next year. I've already got a few bits for his advent calander and a few bits that I saved back for next year. I've already got one present for him which I know he will still be into.
I've also just ordered 4 massive plastic boxes so I can sort the decorations into different rooms as it's a nightmare having to carry everything back and forth.
I'm looking for a new 7ft tree but they are pretty pricy even in the sales so I might have to save for quite a while for one.

Twobrews · 03/01/2021 09:56

I've bought a box specifically for items needed on 1st of December. I've been meaning to do it for years but have always forgotten and then had to get every single box out to find the Advent Calendars, Christmas mugs etc.

I've written a list of things I don't need to buy next year and stuck it in the key cupboard. I have enough fill your own crackers, gift tags, cellophane bags and Christmas cards to last a lifetime.

I'm also making use of the Christmas present app I used last year for ideas for this year as I see/buy them.

I've ordered the stuff to make two bauble wreaths that I wanted to make last year but didn't get round to, I'll make them now to put away.

Cam2020 · 03/01/2021 10:02

Ive put the lights away neat and tidy so its easy for next year...

Me too. I started batch binding up the lights a couple of years ago and have never looked back!

I've made a note of what I want to focus on decoration wise for this year. I love going to the Christmassy garden centres but get a bit dazzled by all the stuff and end up buying things we don't need and not having enough budget for other stuff we don't have. This year I want some outside things.

Peridot1 · 03/01/2021 10:07

I bought some wrapping paper reduced in Waitrose and a storage bag for wrapping paper etc.

Other than that it’s still Xmas here. Tree still up. Might take it down tomorrow.

We moved house in November and some of the decorations we used in our previous house we haven’t used here so I need to do a big sort out of the things I know we definitely won’t use again. I’ll box them up separately so I can charity shop them if the shops ever open again.

Roystonv · 03/01/2021 10:14

Usually I get a few stocking bits in the sales but not inspired this year. Have noted we are ok for crackers and wrapping paper and debating not doing cards next year for those friends on Facebook. Must cut down on nibbly bits sweet and savoury next year though I do like to anticipate what anyone might fancy.

Teaandscone · 03/01/2021 10:16

Saved the recipe for chocolate- coated honeycomb and made sure the cellophane bags are in a safe place.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 03/01/2021 10:18

Had a really good sort out of the Xmas decs and ruthlessly binned it will charity shop decs that we just don't use but that I keep bringing down and putting back in the loft.

Usually get some bits in the sale but haven't found anything at all this year.

Made a note to once again stop buying so much food.

Al agreed we're not having Christmas pudding again, it's too heavy and most of it's gone in the freezer. We'll have something like a pavlova.

Deereamer · 03/01/2021 10:34

I’ve bought some decorations in the sales, started my present lists for the kids (Although it will change nearer the time as I see what they need / want). I’ve also started planning the Christmas events and meals. 2020 felt a bit empty without all the family stuff and events with the kids.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 03/01/2021 10:42

Well I am behind this year already - I usually buy Christmas cards in the sales but due to eldercare issues didn't manage to get to the shops before they closed (Tier 4) and none left in Tesco when I went on NYE.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 03/01/2021 10:50

I was thinking of getting cards and wrapping paper in the sales but as we’re in Level 4 Lockdown I’ve not been anywhere to look and I’m not paying p&p on stuff like this! I have bought a couple of presents in the Joules sale which is a first for me.

I never usually give it a thought until after October half term so this is revolutionary. My fear is that I’ll feel super organised and nothing else will get done until the last minute!

sandgrown · 03/01/2021 10:55

Have bought half price wrapping paper . Will look for cards but as tier 4 the only option is the supermarkets. I have bought some gifts in the sale but they are for birthdays in the next few months

FoxInABox · 03/01/2021 12:52

I’ve started a list on my phone and a wish list on Amazon with ideas for birthdays/Christmas. At the moment mainly things I had thought of for this year but didn’t buy and things I’ve since seen mentioned on here that I think they would like.
Have a list on my phone of people who we’ve exchanged cards with in the street- names and door numbers.
Keeping an eye on the tree I want for next year and planning on buying that soon, have also bought a new table runner and Christmas tea towels in the sale that will be put away with the decs.

FoxInABox · 03/01/2021 12:53

By next year I mean this year Xmas Grin

absolutelyknackeredcow · 03/01/2021 14:48

I will write a password protected document on presents. I pick them up through out the year and forget what I bought every time 😂

luckylavender · 03/01/2021 15:26

I've bought some Christmas cards. Tree still up until epiphany.

ShowOfHands · 03/01/2021 15:33

I've done a few things. I have a book I write in each year. Things which worked, comments on new recipes I've tried etc so I've filled those in as a reminder ready for next year. Took photos of things before I took them down so like a pp, I don't have to faff about. Bought new storage for decorations and have stored in a logical fashion by room and labelled what's in each box. Bought eco wrap and crackers in the sales. Made some bunting and put it away so it's the first thing I'll get out next year (I'll have forgotten by then). Cut cards into tags for next year's presents.

HandlebarLadyTash · 03/01/2021 15:42

Packed the tree away & left the lights on it Xmas Grin
