Fair play! Am in Ireland so struggling with what and where to buy though got those crackers that you dip yourself... Any great buys?

Covidpleasegoaway · 31/12/2020 19:40

I have tried but I haven't found anything decent - most of the sales were crap this year, and prices were not much cheaper than they were before Xmas when there were 3 for 2 deals, 20% off etc

I don't believe in buying toiletry gift sets a whole year before (the packaging changes and I don't believe it stays nice after that time).

Not here , though my DC are adults so not looking for This Years Must Have Toy (and having them change their minds on 23rd Dec Xmas Grin )

If I see any housewares I might , or maybe underwear type presents for their Dec 1st Box ?

I bought a few Christmas hand towels this Christmas and I have enough Christmas Loo Roll left for at least half of next December so that's a start !

I've bought a couple of bits so far. Ive picked up pjs/loungwear sets, slippers, borg hoodies and a dressing gown from next (online) for mothers day, birthday and Christmas gifts (for DM, adult Dd and DGd) I've picked up a nice set from body shop for mothers day too which which will go with the lounge area set for Dm. Ive also picked up things for Easter too for granddaughter, a bunny sweatshirt (next) and a hatchimals spring bouquet down from £15 to £5.50 in argos. I've always shopped ahead though, I do love a bargain and planning ahead and have fab storage in a spare bedroom because i hate clutter.I picked up a lovely red stormwear dinosaur coat for granddaughter 18mnths ago in m&s sale down from £40 to £2.90 and then picked up bits from next sale last Christmas and this spring to go with it ( tops, hats & scarves, jeans and rainbow hightops) she's just fitted into them now and looks adorable for a fraction of the cost. I have found the bargains are going quicker due to covid and shopping online.

Can I ask what you’ve bought @Pansypath?

Pansypath · 31/12/2020 21:38

So I got some cute tins of of love heart sweets that have a long sell by date and look like cottages. Some squidgey key rings of my kids’ initials, elf squashmallow toys as they got Santa ones in their stockings this year and loved them, funky doughnut and cucumber pattern eye mask things you put in fridge and mickey mouse shaped bubble bath bauble things. Last two from Superdrug. Will try to find pics hold on

Tried various sites but most things were already sold out. I wanted to buy Christmas cards, wrapping paper etc.

@Pansypath which playmobil advent calendars did you get? I've been looking out for them but haven't seen any cheap yet!

MrsAukerman · 31/12/2020 21:49

Yes, I've bought some decorations and mini rainbow fake trees for next year from paperchase.

ElfIsAnAss · 31/12/2020 21:51

I used to do this every year. Stopped a few years back when I lost track of what I'd bought and spent an obscene amount of money on presents for everyone. I'd hidden stuff around the house and forgot about it! I may pay full price now but I spend far less.

Pansypath · 31/12/2020 22:10

Playmobil Advent Calendar Top Agents with LED Super Weapon but it was £12.99 on the day I bought them and gone up now

Bought Christmas jumper for DD1 and dress for DD2 in the sales!

Someaddedsugar · 31/12/2020 22:12

Thanks @Pansypath that's given me some fab ideas Smile

Mrsfussypants1 · 31/12/2020 22:12

Argos have playmobil advent calanders reduced. I'll admit my first few years of buying early were chaotic, things getting squished in cupboards, overspending or getting lost but ive become much more efficient at it. Im now armed with a planner, photographs, label maker and dh built some fab storage for the spare room. It makes it so much easier and i spend far less money, less stress and i don't shop in December.

Pansypath · 31/12/2020 22:23

@Catawaulmy advent calendar post should have said amazon

Bought the first few gifts today. They'll be kept in the cardboard box they're delivered in on top of the wardrobe, the DC are so used to seeing cardboard boxes 9n too.of my wardrobes they've never questioned whats in them 🤣 I have an app on my phone called christmas list, I can add recipients, budgets etc and it'll keep me organised with what I've purchased and for who.

inappropriateraspberry · 01/01/2021 17:53

I don't buy stocking fillers, but stock up on things that make good birthday presents for my daughter's friends. Hopefully we'll be able to have some birthday parties this year!

Daisy829 · 01/01/2021 18:02

I usually do but this year I’m not really motivated & obviously can’t go to the shops at the moment. I do think I purchased too much stuff this year as I started early so going to hold off. There’s lots of sales throughout the year so I’ll get bits as I see them.

Woodlandbelle · 01/01/2021 18:21

I have a lot of stocking fillers put away for dc that I know they will enjoy. Plus I have enough cards crackers and wrapping paper from last year's sales that will cover me Dec 2021. I didn't buy much more this year due to storage etc but I have a mental list of what really worked for dc. Going to buy more consumables and novelty clothing or pj's. Hot water bottles maybe long ones with a Teddy theme.
