I hope some people are managing to enjoy their day.
Christmas songs and prosecco at 7.30. Best thing is eating those mini sausage rolls for breakfast.
Chocolate next!

@Lifeispassingby sometimes you need a quiet day, especially after one that must have been very hard and therefore tiring. I understand what you mean. I hope you manage another restful day tomorrow.

@littlemissalwaystired its good that you've had a lovely day at work. Have you got a dinner sorted for when you get home? I hope the rest of your shift goes well.

We're having a lovely day, I was up early with the puppy. FaceTime with DF & DSM in New Zealand which was good (although missed a trip to see them this year) & then opened most of the presents with DH & DS. Had a mahoosive lunch at about 2.30pm & are now recovering, DH is having a nap, DS is on his new phone, I'm sat with the puppy in front of the woodburner, enjoying the peace. Going to watch last year's Gavin & Stacey Christmas special early evening & then I will immerse myself in one of my new books Xmas Smile

Whatayear1234 · 25/12/2020 17:50

@SecretWitch takeaway or home cooked? Either way, it sounds good!
I hope you feel better soon.

Us.

DP had his first chemo session yesterday and he has tolerated it well so far, no nausea and his temperature was just inside his parameters this morning. His cancer isn't curable but we are hoping to buy him time. He loved the headphones I bought him for chemo days.

Foster baby has had a good day and now his bed room is a sensory room too (he has a brain injury) and he has really enjoyed the lights in there today.

My only sad but is that my adult son is all alone on Christmas Day, he lives in an area surrounded by tier 4 and didn't want to risk travelling.

sweetchristmastime · 25/12/2020 18:17

It has been magical.

Frenchdressing · 25/12/2020 18:18

Nope. It’s been shit. DH has been a complete arse and I don’t know why. And tbh I don’t care. He can fuck off.

ThelmaNotLouise · 25/12/2020 18:25

Three of us and we are enjoying the most chilled out Xmas we’ve ever had. No hosting duties like usual so we aren’t bothered about tidying up and are just taking the day as it comes. It’s bliss.

AriesTheRam · 25/12/2020 18:36

Had a lovely day,no bad presents given or received.Ds been in lovely mood 99.9% of the day.Sat with a glass of wine now.

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 25/12/2020 18:48

Had a great day. The kids got all they wanted and more, they're just the age to fully believe in Santa & haven't even noticed Covid.

Both declared it 'best day ever' so that's enough for me.

I've missed my mum (care home & feeling ill after heavy lunch) and was sad to talk to my aunt who's isolating and poorly.

But on balance it's been a good day.

Hope others have found the fun where they could

blackcat86 · 25/12/2020 18:52

I have had a lovely day and probably one of the most relaxed Christmases yet. Saw DPs for lunch (tier 2), 2yr old DD has had lovely presents and is really in the magic of Christmas and we've had some quality time together. Its been a shame to miss some of the family we usually see but actually they can be quite highly strung - think several hours of loudly moaning about the economy, unpleasant sweeping statements about people on benefits, making everyone feel that they need to justify themselves. Without it, its actually been quite blissful.

HmmSureJan · 25/12/2020 18:59

Yes, lovely. Kids (teens) woke up very early so we did presents then all went back to bed and slept in till 10. Up, pancakes for breakfast, walked dog by the river. Home, leisurely cooked dinner and it turned out perfectly. Kids watching something together, I'm listening to Christmas music and drinking Prosecco. When I have cleared away we'll watch "Soul" then mince pies and a little buffet. One of my loveliest Christmas days that I can remember Xmas Smile

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 25/12/2020 19:00

I had very low expectations as seeing no wider family and not bubbled with anyone. But turning out to have a very nice day. DS was absolutely thrilled with pressies, DH got in the spirit and got a Cmas jumper. Lunch was lovely and spent afternoon bent over a jigsaw. (Nerdy pleasure!) Not bad really. 🙂

Millie2013 · 25/12/2020 19:07

We’ve had a “good enough” day, nothing Instagram worthy, but chilled
DD woke up at 12.30 am, was sent back to bed and slept until 6, then we did stockings in bed with a cup of tea. We then came downstairs and opened other presents
Then my mum sorted the horses while I cooked breakfast.
Dinner was relaxed as I’d prepped ahead, I’ve just cleared up and cleaned the kitchen and we’re chilling with a glass of red
I had low expectations, which probably helped.
Previous years I’ve run myself ragged, trying to make everything perfect. This was much better!

DD had just turned one (so last year was a complete write off and was spent in our Pjs all day eating chocolate and napping) but this year DSS was with us so I tried to put in a lot of effort.
I've learnt that we have a long way to go before we get to a seamless Xmas! So many things went wrong (including not realising I was supposed to defrost the pavlova for 7 hours before eating it so we ended up with a vienetta I'd hidden at the back of the freezer for just such an emergency). We only got the gifts out at around 5am and DH and I haven't exchanged ours because we haven't had time to get wrap them. Thankfully we got DSS sorted as he is the only one who will notice (DD spent a lot of time pulling wrapping f paper out of the bin liner we shoved it in so I was pretty glad I kept her gift giving low key)
But the day was lovely - DPIL came over (live ten mins away) and brought half the food so it was super easy to cook, no one cared about what was missing food wise or if anything wasn't quite right, DD sat at the table in her high chair for the whole meal and only got upset when we pulled crackers, she dealt with all the gift giving so well and didn't have any tantrums or meltdowns and pulled herself up and walked around an activity table for the very first time (she's been a bit slow to pull to stand because she rarely finds herself with empty hands!)
And now I'm in bed with her snuggled next to me, I'm about to have a lovely hot bath and watch all the festive tv I've missed today (especially call the midwife).
I've had a really lovely day and hope all you have too. (And we will do the gift exchange at NY which gives me a whole week to not wrap them 😂)

DrunkenKoala · 25/12/2020 19:51

Had a lovely day, it’s been very chilled out. Just been us but had a lovely zoom call with extended family this morning. DC happy with presents. Spent the afternoon watching tv and I’m now eating cheese and crackers, drinking wine whilst DP putting DD to bed. Will be opening the salted caramel baileys soon.

Hoping DD will sleep in tomorrow morning, she’s been so excited and waking quite early. We’re tier 4 so we can’t meet up with anyone but we’ll go for a walk in the morning whilst the weather is still nice.

Timeandtune · 25/12/2020 20:01

We have had a lovely day. DS1 and his lovely partner came over and cooked for us all. DS2 ( 21) and yours truly went for a walk. His suggestion ( shock nearly killed me) . DH and I then walked DS1’s dog whilst lunch was being prepped. Quick quiz and present opening. Now watching Some Like it Hot. Merry Christmas to everyone on MN.

Whatayear1234 · 25/12/2020 20:28

@bloodywhitecat that sounds very difficult. Im pleased to hear you had a good day and that the headphones were a hit. I hope your DP continues with a non-reaction to the chemo.
Wishing you and your family all the best.

Have to say I've had a really nice day. No rushing to open presents before picking up my Mum, and then cooking. No having to keep offering hot drinks, we don't have them after 10am ourselves, then having to do tea for others when none of my family want it themselves.

No watching the news, and best of all no having to try and distance from others.

ListenLinda · 25/12/2020 20:46

I would go as far as saying we have had the best christmas we’ve ever had to date, it’s been a lovely day.
Merry Christmas to all 🎄

CaramelCandle · 25/12/2020 20:46

Yes it's been a lovely day. Kids opened presents this morning and we had a late breakfast followed by treats. Played for a while then went to the park for the kids to try out their new scooters and it snowed! Came home and had more chocolate, played with the toys again and played board games. Made chicken curry for dinner, unconventional but didn't want a roast and it was really enjoyable. More playing then a slightly late bedtime for the kids. The day just flowed.

Egghead68 · 25/12/2020 20:49

Yes, had a nice day thanks.
