Ransacking the house looking for anything to bulk out DDs santa sack. Am usually good at this but with covid and losing my dad, I've not been on it. Pulled the amazon boxes out from under the bed to wrap, and have bought okay amount for DS, but hardly anything for DD. Some books and tops, that's it. She's 10. It's crap. I've found a small box of chocolates in the cupboard and some unopened lip gloss. It looks pitiful.

Subscription to something?

Justajot · 25/12/2020 00:23

Cash or vouchers? Depending what she's into, my DD would prefer those to most physical presents.

OhCaptain · 25/12/2020 00:23

Agree with subscription.

Can you buy tickets to something and print them out?

Notcontent · 25/12/2020 00:23

Could you give her some money?

RealisticSketch · 25/12/2020 00:24

Can you think up a fab day out/perfect night in she'd like and create her a voucher for it maybe.
It's understandable under the circumstances. Or... Maybe you could prune back ds's stuff and use for his birthday instead to even it out?

Diverseduvet · 25/12/2020 00:25

Tickets, a promise or cash if you have it.

FAQs · 25/12/2020 00:27

Buy a gift voucher for something? Sorry for your loss.

whatisheupto · 25/12/2020 00:29

A horse riding lesson/s? Make your own 'voucher' in Word and print it. My DD would LOVE that!

ilovesushi · 25/12/2020 00:30

Thank you! Trying to think what she might like tickets to. Can't think of what subscription she might like but wracking my brain. I think she'd like a mum/ daughter day out shopping and cinema.

Yes horse riding! Amazing idea. Hope I have some printer ink left!

Tickets for on line streamed theatre and make an evening of it with pop corn etc

SleepingStandingUp · 25/12/2020 00:32

How much do you spend on the stocking? Ot might looks emptier but has Santa just brought her more expensive stuff? And once you throw in a cinema and popcorn voucher it'll soon add up!

ilovesushi · 25/12/2020 00:32

Again thank you for swift and brilliant ideas xxx

Glad you’re feeling better about it @ilovesushi!

Last year I had the same with ds (12) so I went online and got tickets for him and his dad to a theme park! Honestly the best present he’s ever gotten!

They went on a day before he was back to school and he still talks about it now!

Horse riding a great suggestion.

Indoor water park tickets too maybe?

A “voucher” to an online shopping spree to the value of X amount so she feels grow up! 🙂

whatisheupto · 25/12/2020 00:38

Also maybe a day out at a theme park or zoo etc? You can probably buy those online now and print them off.
Glad horse riding works!

Ghostofchristmasflatpack · 25/12/2020 00:39

Money tree. Pin envelops on the Christmas tree with cash in each with her name on them.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 25/12/2020 00:40

If it makes you feel any better these are two of my DCs piles Blush

Luckily DS will understand, as he had a very expensive birthday gift, but I’ve actually unwrapped one of the gifts bought for a different DC and rewrapped it for DS!

The biggest pile is for the youngest and most helpful DC, and includes some furniture for their room and clothes so nothing v expensive, but it just looks so much more!!

Shit! Looking at DD's santa sack and it is rubbish.

Omg that is obscene!! Is that amount normal?!
YouBoughtMeAWall · 25/12/2020 00:43

I think it’s important for DC to know that how big their “pile” is is irrelevant. You shouldn’t need to bulk out her sack to make it look fuller. At 10 she is old enough to understand that the value is in what the gifts mean to her and not how well they fill a sack.

LittleOldWineDrinker · 25/12/2020 00:45

A suggestion i saw elsewhere was a family who were really short on cash for presents one year - they filled balloons (different colours for each kid) with coins. The kids had a blast popping the balloons and collecting the cash. If you have any balloons in you could blow up a couple and stick notes in to pad out her stocking?

ilovesushi · 25/12/2020 00:45

I've made a horse riding voucher for 3 lessons at a local riding school. I'm going to print now.

Sparkledot · 25/12/2020 00:47

What is obscene about this? Genuinely interested

Jeremyironseverything · 25/12/2020 00:48

If you think that's obscene then you'll be shocked at our piles over the years.

Jeremyironseverything · 25/12/2020 00:49

Sorry. Lovely idea op.

BooBahBoo · 25/12/2020 00:49

@FabbyMagic

It's hardly obscene, is it? Obscene would be an entire room of presents or similar, and even then it's none of our business what parents buy their kids. Don't you have anything better to do on Xmas Eve, than to shit on someone's gifts to their kids? Especially after this year being so shit?

We all have different circumstances and traditions. Just because you think it's obscene, doesn't mean it is.

Run along, now. No one has time for your petty comments and entirely useless opinion.
