Having a fun debate with my London based sister and Bil, both Firefighters who recently had their watch Christmas Lunch at the fire station. My sister who I agree with was shocked at Yorkshire Puddings being served as part of Christmas dinner, we have never had them ever at Christmas much to her colleagues surprise, yes they go with Christmas dinner, or no they belong far away with the sprouts!?!

No, Yorkshire’s only to be served with beef, sprouts should be piled high on every meal.

DigitalGhost · 23/12/2020 22:58

They're so delicious why would you not have them? 😂

SueEllenMishke · 23/12/2020 23:00

Yorkshire puddings belong on any roast - but I'm from Yorkshire and we have them with everything!! They're an important feature on my Christmas dinner

I'm not one for food rules. If you enjoy something then eat it 🤷🏼‍♀️

WorraLiberty · 23/12/2020 23:01

I don't get this discussion that comes up all the time. They were even discussing on TV the other day Xmas Grin

It's just a bit of baked batter and goes with most meats.

WorraLiberty · 23/12/2020 23:02

And if they only went with a joint of roast beef, there'd be no such thing as toad in the hole.

ASchuylerSister · 23/12/2020 23:03

We have Yorkshire’s with any roast and Christmas dinner. They’re my fave part!

CharityEscapeGoat · 23/12/2020 23:05

I love Yorkshire puddings & would have them with every roast. I'm from Yorkshire!

mydogisthebest · 23/12/2020 23:09

Yes of course you have them with Christmas dinner. You have them with all roasts

Splodgetastic · 23/12/2020 23:10

Yorkshires are a must for Christmas Day. I am from north of Yorkshire and DH is from Lancashire. I like to do beef but DH does turkey. Yorkshires go with everything and that is so even when you aren’t from Yorkshire.

Zoflorabore · 23/12/2020 23:10

North west here and there would be uproar in our house if there were no Yorkshire’s for Christmas dinner, or any roast dinner for that matter.

We buy them and make them occasionally throughout the year.

They are bloody gorgeous!

CharityEscapeGoat · 23/12/2020 23:11

Traditionally, a Yorkshire pudding would be served prior to the main meal, to fill you up. It's fairly cheap & therefore you need less meat. So, lamb (probably mutton) or pork are probably just as valid as beef.

chipshopElvis · 23/12/2020 23:14

We just have veggies, stuffing, roast potatoes and yorshires!

Elouera · 23/12/2020 23:18

I do yorkshires with any roasted meat, not just beef.

For Christmas we often have a rib roast, along with whatever else, so yes, always have yorkshires at CHristmas- why wouldn't you if you like them?

BethlehemIsInTier1 · 23/12/2020 23:18

We all love them but never ever had them on Christmas Day, hmm I think I will send my son out to get some then, I just thought it was a regional thing, we are from the NE, a lot of my friends do not have them either.

Yorkshire’s with beef. Bread sauce with Turkey or chicken.

These are the Roast Rules.

There is enough chaos in the world right now without Yorkshire puddings on Christmas Day.

partyatthepalace · 23/12/2020 23:26

I am from the South.

GreekOddess · 23/12/2020 23:37

I'm from the south and it's not a roast dinner without Yorkshire puddings. I remember the first time we had Christmas lunch in a restaurant and I told the waitress that they'd forgot the Yorkshire puds 🤦‍♀️. I had no idea. Why is it only supposed to go with beef?

Bread sauce is 🤮

EggnogAndAMincepie · 23/12/2020 23:46

Yorkshire puddings DO NOT belong (unless it's Beef) on a Christmas dinner

A Christmas dinner should consist of
Turkey
Mash
Roasties
Parsnips
Carrots
Sausage meat stuffing
Pigs in blankets
Red cabbage
Cauliflower cheese
Turkey gravy and cranberry sauce.

GreekOddess · 23/12/2020 23:55

My Christmas dinner consists of:-

Turkey
Ham
Pigs in blankets
Roast potatoes
Mashed potatoes
Brussels gratin with pancetta and hazelnuts
Roasted carrots and parsnips with maple syrup
Pork and cranberry stuffing
Red cabbage with apple and cinnamon
Purple sprouting broccoli
Gravy
Cranberry sauce and

Yorkshire pudding!

Twobrews · 24/12/2020 00:05

My older DC have requested Yorkshire pudding this year Hmm
They're not needed with Christmas Dinner IMO as there's too much other stuff going on and it's another faff for me. I'll end up doing them though.

It is NOT
Angel2702 · 24/12/2020 00:12

Always had Yorkshire puddings with Christmas dinner.

I thought that was a rule my dad made up when I was a kid 😯 I have Yorkshires with every roast...as well as mint sauce 😬
HumphreyGoodmanswife · 24/12/2020 00:13

Every roast dinner needs Yorkshire puddings, including Christmas dinner.

I make them every week, there'd be mutiny in our house if we had a roast without them. Plus, toad in the hole is one of the best Winter comfort meals there is and I don't make that with beef Xmas Grin

unexpectedthird · 24/12/2020 05:15

The only reason we never have them on Christmas Day is oven space. Otherwise I'm all for it!
