Having a fun debate with my London based sister and Bil, both Firefighters who recently had their watch Christmas Lunch at the fire station. My sister who I agree with was shocked at Yorkshire Puddings being served as part of Christmas dinner, we have never had them ever at Christmas much to her colleagues surprise, yes they go with Christmas dinner, or no they belong far away with the sprouts!?!

What fresh hell is "bread sauce"? I am from Suffolk and have never seen this, but it sounds horrible.

Jinglingandnotmingling · 24/12/2020 09:23

Not horrible!

Yorkshire puddings most definitely DO belong on a Christmas dinner!

QuantumJump · 24/12/2020 09:26

Bread sauce is literally the best thing about Christmas dinner.

KumquatSalad · 24/12/2020 09:34

Surely you can serve whatever you bloody like for Christmas dinner. Especially for Christmas 2020! 😂

I don’t think I could get worked up if someone decided ‘screw it’ and made macaroni cheese for Christmas dinner this year.

FoxInABox · 24/12/2020 10:37

Yes yes yes!
Love Yorkshire puddings and have them with every roast.

GreekOddess · 24/12/2020 10:52

My tastes have changed as I've got older. Our Christmas meal is similar to a thanksgiving meal with lots of sweet and cinnamon flavours. Years ago I wouldn't have eaten half of the things I cook now. I like it to taste and smell different to our normal roasts.

Clutterbugsmum · 24/12/2020 11:07

We having Beef so yes we will be having Yorkshire Pudding. But to throw a spanner into the works we are also having Pigs in Blankets as my DC love them.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 24/12/2020 11:14

Yorkies all the way (I'm northern). I don't get bread sauce though, can't see it serves any purpose and never had it or even been offered it on any Christmas dinner.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 24/12/2020 11:19

I also think cauliflower cheese and gravy is a vile combination. Hardly anyone is listing sprouts, it's the law to have sprouts surely?

TheCrow · 24/12/2020 11:27

Absolutely yes, they're one of the best parts! There'd be a riot in this house if we didn't have them. They're also lovely for pudding with golden syrup drizzled on but it's a rare treat because usually none make it that far!

TheCrow · 24/12/2020 11:29

Also yes to sprouts and absolutely no to bread sauce. Why have some weird tasteless gloop when you can have lovely cranberry sauce 😂

Fontella · 24/12/2020 11:34

Wouldn't even consider Christmas Dinner without Yorkshires. They are as essential as the roasties.

CorianderQueen · 24/12/2020 12:41

I serve Yorkshire's with every roast. It's not 1910 where you need the dripping

LadyCatStark · 24/12/2020 12:44

They do belong on Christmas dinner but, my god, can we all stop calling them Yorkshire’s??

KumquatSalad · 24/12/2020 13:07

Surely you can have both. And gravy too. The more sauces the merrier really.
CorianderQueen · 24/12/2020 13:07

@EggnogAndAMincepie

Yorkshire puddings DO NOT belong (unless it's Beef) on a Christmas dinner

A Christmas dinner should consist of
Turkey
Mash
Roasties
Parsnips
Carrots
Sausage meat stuffing
Pigs in blankets
Red cabbage
Cauliflower cheese
Turkey gravy and cranberry sauce.

Mash and caul cheese but no Yorkshire's? You're a bit messed up

YES THEY DO Xmas Grin

ethelredonagoodday · 24/12/2020 13:58

I'm from Yorkshire, and we never have them
with Xmas dinner. Every other roast we have them the traditional way (as a starter), but not on Christmas Day.

W3dontdoduvets · 24/12/2020 14:01

What’s the obsession with loading up your Christmas dinner plate with hundreds of dishes. I love a yorkie but there for everyday roasts. There’s so much other food at Christmas, just cook the staples beautifully, don’t overload your plate. No mash, no yorkies, they fill you up so much anyway, you don’t need any help with that at this time of year 😋

TheCrow · 24/12/2020 14:03

Good thing this forum is anonymous or you might look out of the window and find an angry mob with pitchforks and flaming torches 😂

ethelredonagoodday · 24/12/2020 14:04

@TheCrow ha ha ha! 🤣

KatherineJaneway · 24/12/2020 14:22

I'd be so disappointed to go to someone's house for Christmas Dinner and not have Yorkshire's. I'd never show that to the hosts but I would wonder what was wrong with them Xmas Grin

LH1987 · 24/12/2020 14:37

We are having beef Wellington tomorrow, DH said Yorkshire puddings would be too much due to the pastry. I regret listening to him....I wish I had some in.

Hope everyone enjoys their Christmas dinners tomorrow, Yorkshire pudding or not! 🎄
