Must have foods to eat over Christmas

This has probably been asked already, but what are the foods that you make sure to pick up in your shopping, ready for the week or so around Christmas and New Years?

I always need to have m&s sausage rolls, salt and vinegar Pringles (I don’t eat them any other time of the year so I don’t know why!) baileys for a baileys hot chocolate and some whipped cream

Boursin, pate, crusty bread & crackers. I never eat Boursin any other time which DH is very grateful about.

Sillybillypoopoomummy · 20/12/2020 20:50

Bread sauce... absolutely vital. I am the only one who eats it, but as I cook lunch, it is non negotiable!

dementedma · 20/12/2020 20:51

Mustard and dill sauce to go with smoked salmon. Gets harder to find every year

MrsLebowski · 20/12/2020 20:53

All sorts of fancy cheese straw and savoury cracker type things, Posh chocolate biscuits, Lebkuchen, Mince pies I also like some nice fruit and cheese maybe some nuts.

purplecorkheart · 20/12/2020 21:00

Normally M&S canapés, but this year I am suppose to restrict my movements to 5 k of my home. I will miss the lobster mac and cheese but not will to take the risk. My store is small and super busy.

ExpensivelyDecorated · 20/12/2020 21:05

I got some Tracklements mustard and dill sauce in my local butcher recently. It is delicious.

For me, fancy cheeses, chutney and crackers, cheese footballs, Lidl mini stollen, Lidl strawberry candy canes (DD and I don't like mint). M&S Belgian Truffles. Cook from frozen croissants for Christmas morning.

TheCrow · 20/12/2020 21:11

Proper full fat Coca-Cola, Wensleydale with cranberries, rosemary crackers with pate and my mam's onion marmalade, macarons, Florentines, posh crisps in weird flavours (this year prawn Marie rose and ham with cola)

EnPoinsettia · 20/12/2020 21:13

Roqueforte

EwwSprouts · 20/12/2020 21:16

Marzipan in fruit shapes. Reminds me of my grandmother.

It’s all about the condiments here - piccalilli, red cabbage, chutney, mustards and cheese. I also love salt and vinegar peanuts and dark chocolate with marzipan.

ExpensivelyDecorated · 20/12/2020 21:34

Salt and black pepper peanuts if I can find them.

HeyMichaelmasTerm · 20/12/2020 21:35

mrsbyers · 20/12/2020 21:40

Coke in glass bottles - seems a real treat

NeonSparkle · 20/12/2020 21:43

All the cheeses Grin but definitely Mexicana, caramelised onion cheddar and blue Stilton- with crackers

Not traditionally Christmassy but the Cofresh chilli and lime grills crisps.

Cocktail sausage rolls (the mini frozen ones)

Prosciutto, salami, olives, sundried tomatoes and crusty bread

DuesToTheDirt · 20/12/2020 21:46

Fresh nuts in their shells.

NowellSingWe · 20/12/2020 21:49

Cashews with salt and black pepper (from M&S, the Tesco version were a poor substitute)
Fentimans Dandelion & Burdock
Barolo
Sainsbury's Taste The Difference Mince Pie ice cream
Brie
Camembert
Stilton
Wensleydale
Lebkuchen (Waitrose own is wonderful)
Membrillo
Onion marmalade
Chestnuts for roasting
Paprika pringles
Toblerone

Therewillbetiers · 20/12/2020 21:57

Panettone
Cheese cheese cheese and more cheese

SweetPetrichor · 20/12/2020 21:59

Fentimans Curiosity Cola for me, and the ginger beer for DP.
...other than that, nothing special. There’s only 2 of us, so everything else on the shopping list is normal Christmas stuff. It’s a waste getting too much.
Roast chicken, parsnips, carrots, potatoes, gravy, Yorkshire’s, pigs in blankets, peas...crackers and cheese for later in the evening. Nothing interesting.

Mrsfussypants1 · 20/12/2020 21:59

Baileys, cheese, several Chutneys, camembert.
