@Horizons83

Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer Grin
That’s exactly what I came on to say Xmas Grin
MrsPworkingmummy · 19/12/2020 19:34

Fleet Foxes with 'White Winter Hymnal'

namechangefail2020 · 19/12/2020 20:01

Winters tale. Love it

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 19/12/2020 23:27

I'm not sure if it's a true Christmas song, but it's one that is on my playlist anyway - Pipes of Peace by Paul McCartney. It's only recently though that I've realised it's about aliens 👽 and not WWI.

clare8allthepies · 19/12/2020 23:33

@LuluJakey1

It is a song from the 1970s by a Tyneside group, Lindisfarne. It's called 'Winter Song'.
Isn’t that the one Sam Fender has just done a cover of? It’s beautiful.
GuyFawkesDay · 19/12/2020 23:38

Nat King Cole A cradle in Bethlehem
Tim Minchin White wine in the sun

Lady1576 · 19/12/2020 23:40

Rendition of Oh Come, Emmanuel by Jim Moray

Sgtmajormummy · 19/12/2020 23:47

I heard David Essex singing Just Another Winter’s Tale while out shopping the other day. I’d completely forgotten it, but there’s something deliciously “80s TV Theme Song” about it.

But my favourite Christmas hymn is It Came upon a Midnight Clear.

Figmentofimagination · 20/12/2020 00:24

I agree with the PP who said Jamie Cullum's new Christmas album. I love listening to it!

Cokearama · 20/12/2020 00:43

My fave xmas song since forever is Wombling Merry Christmas by the Wombles.

I also like Merry Christmas You Suckers by Paddy Suckers. It particularly sums up my Xmas mood this year Grin

AGnu · 20/12/2020 00:59

I love - makes me cry every time!

OldGreyBoots · 20/12/2020 01:38

Some great taste on this thread - came here for the Killers and Jethro Tull, beaten to it multiple times! Not actually a Christmas song, but Wondrous Stories by Yes always makes me feel festive in a quiet sort of way Xmas Grin

Standrewsschool · 20/12/2020 09:26

Wombles - a classic!

thethoughtfox · 20/12/2020 09:38

Tom Waits Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis. Lovely and melancholy. We listen to it every year driving back from picking up our Christmas food.

WeAreTheWeirdosMister · 20/12/2020 09:42
The Ravonettes it's so cool and chilled out
BangingOn · 20/12/2020 09:55

River- Joni Mitchell
Goodbye England- Laura Marling (sort of a Christmas song anyway)
Everything’s Going to be Cool This Christmas- Eels
I Won’t Be Home for Christmas- Blink 182
Christmas Was Better in the 80s- The Futureheads
Mistress for Christmas- AC/DC
Please be Patient- Feist
Home Alone, Too- The Staves
I Saw Mummy Kissing Santa Claus- Amy Winehouse
A Snowflake Fell- Glasvegas

Sorry, that’s far more than 1 song but I’ve been exploring lots of new to me Christmas songs this year.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 20/12/2020 10:23

I'm finding some great songs through this thread!

LuluJakey1 · 20/12/2020 10:52

Yes, Sam Fender has just covered 'Winter Song'. There is also a beautiful version by Elvis Costello.

35andThriving · 20/12/2020 11:23

I'm similar to BangingOn, and have been looking for loads of new songs to play.

Seasons Greetings - Cassie Dasilva
Xmas in the 80s - Scouting for Girls
(This Year's) Santa Baby - Eartha Kitt (Sequel to Santa Baby, and I had never even heard of it before this year).
This Time of Year - Rhys Lewis
Rudolph - Robbie Williams
I Love Christmas (Girl's with Glasses) - Brooke White
Tiny Tree Christmas - Ryan Miller
Another Lonely Christmss - Tom Chaplin
Penguin James Penguin - Brad Paisley... a childish one.
Graveyard of the Outcast Dead - Frank Turner... a sad one
Don't Call Me (Mrs Christmas) I Don't Love You Anymore - Emmy the Great & Tim Wheeler
Lost in the Post - The Wombats
Carol of the Bells - Sixpence None the Richer
Baby, It's Cold Outside - Lydia Liza & Josiah Lemanski.... a completely new take on an old song Xmas Grin

Hope that helps.*

maldivemoment · 20/12/2020 11:46

MissEllaWater · 20/12/2020 17:53
HarryBob · 20/12/2020 18:08

Leroy the Redneck Reindeer - Joe Diffie
Let it be Christmas - Alan Jackson

elp30 · 20/12/2020 18:30

"Christmas Time is Here" by Vince Guaraldi

"Please Come Home for Christmas" by Charles Brown but my favorite is the one done by The Eagles

"Blue Christmas" by Elvis

"I Want to Come Home for Christmas" by Marvin Gaye

"Santa Can't Stay" by Dwight Yoakum
(this one kills me about how the kids get an awkward surprise visit from their alcoholic father on Christmas)

"Feliz Navidad" by Jose Feliciano
(It reminds me of my dear father who was a Spanish speaker but always messed up the English language part)

Canklesforankles · 20/12/2020 18:41

I was going to say
River by Joni Mitchell too.

If you like folky music O’Hooley and Tidow who wrote and sang the theme music to the tv series Gentleman Jack, have an album called Winter Folk. I like

Fire and Wine and
We’ll Sing Hallelujah- this sounds like a cheerful song to start with but it’s actually about how hard life is!
