DH the man who doesn’t really want anything? He loves his coffee spends far too much in Costa/Starbucks and I thought it would be nice as he’s WFH and also DD2 likes coffee too.

So I don’t have a clue about them as I hate the stuff. He usually drinks white coffee doesn’t like cappuccino or any fancy flavours. Budget under £200

If he's not into cappuccino style then I don't think Nespresso is a good option.

My husband has a v60 filter coffee set and loves it. It's rather trendy ATM. Perfect for making coffee for 1/2 and he can add milk to it.

See this Hario Set and you could gift with a bag of decent coffee. Various similar sets available, either plastic or ceramic. Instead of a pot you can get one that goes directly over a cup too. Look up Hario brand on Amazon.

I have a nespresso but I buy pods from roar Gill which are compostable. I really like their coffee and have a double shot latte as a treat every day. I was using aldi lungo ones (but it felt very wasteful) to give you an idea of the strength/flavour

BigWoollyJumpers · 13/12/2020 09:29

Of course the Nespresso's makes a latte.....you don't need the frothier. We have one but only use it for hot chocolate!

We use one pod, has to be a full top strength one though, over a mug of milk. Pop in microwave for 1min, perfect latte.

We also get monthly deliveries and pod collection.

BigWoollyJumpers · 13/12/2020 09:31

Just to add, all the alternative cheaper pods are horrible. Weak and lacking flavour. Filter coffee isn't strong enough either. For us, anyway.

If he’s not into fancy coffee then why not just get him a stove top pot and a subscription to a good coffee by post type of thing? Better for the environment too. I like HasBean.

DH has a bean to cup De’Longhi machine, which he loves.

We used to have a nespresso one but we found that the pods are so ridiculously expensive and weren’t that nice.

Bean to cup gives you a lot more control of how strong/weak you like your coffee, and huge choice of coffee beans.

Ours isn’t a hassle to clean out.. you just empty to the coffee grounds into the bin or compost when it’s full. Much like you’d empty out the used pods.

Also bothered by the environmental impact - yes nespresso do a recycling scheme but you have to keep your pods hanging around for months and then take them into a nespresso shop I think.

Just a quick heads up about the Vertuo machine, the only brand you can get is the Nespresso ones, my DH says it’s something to do with the barcode on each pod, generic companies can’t make them. (Or something like that, I tuned out when he started talking about barcodes)

If you can stretch a bit further there’s Delonghi bean to cup available for £250 ish

We have one, albeit a more expensive one with a milk island as I do drink lattes. So much better than a capsule machine and so easy to use.

I got one last year OP and absolutely love it. I find the range of pods great, and we recycle them all - you get the bags from Nespresso direct, and when you get coffee delivered (free delivery for 100 pods) they collect the old ones.

I use the milk frother a lot, so have soya milk with a shot of espresso in and love it. I hate going to Costa/Starbucks as they always used sweetened soya or oat milk and I'm diabetic.

We have a Delonghi Dedica machine. You just use ground coffee. It’s about the same size as a nespresso and it’s fab. Probably about the same price too.
