How many people do you buy for Vs who you'd actually like to buy for?

I have counted up everyone I have to get presents for this year and it's 22 people!

X3 dc's
BF
Parents
X2 siblings
X2 in-laws
1 nephew
X2 friends
X6 friends dc's
BF parents
BF nephew

In an ideal world I'd just like to buy for dc's, bf, my nephew and my parents but hey ho. I've suggested to lots of the above about secret Santa/no gifts but no everyone loves it all. Promise I'm not a grinch just find it overwhelming thinking of that many peoples gifts.

So how many people do you have to buy for versus how many you would actually like to buy for?

I buy for my 4 kids, husband, my parents and 1 step parent, 3 siblings and one in law( theirs is a joint present) and 1 uncle. I used to have to buy for loads of extended family but there was a family argument a few years ago and one of the best things about it is I've been able to knock about 6 people off the list.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 12/12/2020 15:59

I have cut right back this year and am really hoping to set a new precedent- seems daft buying for people and them buying for me just for the sake of it.

VettiyaIruken · 12/12/2020 16:02

I buy for 10. Send cash to 2 more. In an ideal world I'd have the money to buy for at least another 30.

I don't buy for anyone I don't want to.

livingthegoodlife · 12/12/2020 16:16

Probably only one more person than I actually want to. But I only buy for family. And the 1 extra is a friend of the family.

I can't understand buying for endless friends & neighbours etc.

whattodo2019 · 12/12/2020 16:21

Parents
MIL
BIL and SIL
Nephews and Nieces
God children

I would like to buy for some friends and their children. I prefer my friends to my family

SendHelp30 · 12/12/2020 16:23

I buy for
3 DC
DH
Parents
In laws
Nephew
Niece
BIL - no DC
X3 godchildren

We stopped buying for siblings once they had children and vice versa.

SwedishEdith · 12/12/2020 16:23

Buy for 4 - kids, my partner and one of their partners.
Would really like to buy for my late parents (miss that) and any time I see a random thing I know someone would love. But then they'd be embarrassed.

WitsEnding · 12/12/2020 16:25

DCs, DGC, DGN and DM. I have a ‘no presents!’ agreement with everyone else in my large family.. it’s always been parents/children and under18s.

@SwedishEdith

I still buy my late mum a Christmas present and a birthday present. It helps it in it’s own way.?It’s a combination of things, like her favourite perfume (do I can spray done when I kiss her), other scented things she would have liked (soap/candles etc) so I can recreate the smell of her house, her favourite tipples and little things I see that she’d have liked and that I would have picked up for her before.

I’d like to get gifts for more people than I do

SwedishEdith · 12/12/2020 16:49

Nice thought, @EnPoinsettia Flowers

AuntieMarys · 12/12/2020 16:58

I buy for dh, dd and ds.
2 adult nieces get money for themselves and family.
No one else.

Bargebill19 · 12/12/2020 17:01

2 that I want to buy for and no one else.

I will buy people a gift if I want to during the rest of the year. But it’s rare.

Vivarium · 12/12/2020 17:11

10 people - 8 family (including 5 kids), 2 friends.

I'm not really a fan of presents for adults (including myself) at Christmas - it mostly seems like pointless consumerism to me. I managed to negotiate a present amnesty with the other adult family members some years ago - thank God!

Would prefer to have a present amnesty with the friends, too, but they are quite sensitive people and I don't feel able to propose it.

Definitely want to buy presents for the kids.

Mommabear20 · 12/12/2020 17:19

You don't HAVE to buy for anyone! 🤦‍♀️

We CHOOSE to buy for
DD
2 dogs
2 nieces
2 nephews
1 cousin
2 parents
2 in law parents
2 in law grandparents
My BFF
And my bosses little girl.

Christmas gift giving should be fun and because you want to.

bathorshower · 12/12/2020 17:22

Parents
siblings (2), one with spouse and children
DH, DD

DH has gone 'children only' with his siblings, but as one of mine has fertility issues, it seems pretty crass to suggest it. Ideally I'd just buy for DH and DD...

SwedishEdith · 12/12/2020 17:29

You don't HAVE to buy for anyone! 🤦‍♀️

Well, you do really. It'd be very odd to give to your MIL and then nothing for your tight FIL when they come for Christmas dinner (non-2020, obvs).

2gorgeousboys · 12/12/2020 18:23

In addition to DH, DSS, DS1 and DS2 we also buy for
DMil
DM
DDad
5 nieces and nephews on my side
2 nieces and nephews on DH's side
1 DFriend family of 4

Unicant · 12/12/2020 18:29

I buy for
My son
My daughter
My husband
My aunt
My mother
My father

I also bought a gift for my friend cos she's had a hard year

My husband buys for his parents
His uncle
His grandmother
His stepdad

Obv it all comes out of joint money

If I was wealthy I'd buy gifts for all my close friends and also their kids. Id buy for my other uncles and aunts too... we dont usually exchange gifts. I buy for my one aunt because she lives alone and always sends us something so I make her a parcel each year.
I'd buy for my cousins children too.. but I dont usually because they don't even send us a card.. which is fine because we are quite skint so couldn't send anything back anyway!

FoxInABox · 12/12/2020 19:16

I buy for
DH
Our 3 DC
FIL
Sometimes SIL, BIL and 3 nephews (she varies each year on whether we should do presents or not, normally last minute which drives me nuts!)
DM
DF
DFs partner
My siblings (3)
Dnieces/ Dnephews (3)
Great nephews and nieces 4

I would like to slim it down to stop nieces/nephews at adult age, and just buying for their children, as otherwise this list is just going to continue growing indefinitely. I have broached that subject which went down like a lead balloon so I am reducing what I spend so that adult niece/nephews get a token present now.

FoxInABox · 12/12/2020 19:18

I forgot to include I also buy for two best friends, their DHs and their DC, as well as for the people who work for us - small company (8 people at the moment- normally alcohol and money in a card).

Nanasueathome · 12/12/2020 19:23

I buy for 11
2 of those I’m not really fussed about

The other 9 I absolutely adore

ivfbeenbusy · 12/12/2020 19:29

Immediate family only including sibling and their partner plus DD childminder - I don't buy for in laws, grandparents, aunts or uncles. It's up to DH to sort and pay for PIL gifts. They are the only people he buys for other than me and DD whereas I have sibling, nieces and nephews. I don't ask him contribute to my family presents so I don't contribute to his. I don't buy for friends kids either

Autumnspice · 12/12/2020 20:04

32 but I love buying for all of them.

SprogletsMum · 12/12/2020 20:06

This year I've bought for my dc, my mum and her partner, my best friend and my niece and nephew. So a total of 9.
In an ideal world I would spoil my niece and nephew rotten and buy for my dad and stepmum, my partner and all of my friends and children but I can't afford to so I don't.
