My son (nearly 7) loves role-playing scenes from favourite games/programmes. He's been obsessed with Untitled Goose Game for months. He has no idea but I've bought him a TY goose and a kit to build a paper village so he can re-enact it. He is going to be SO excited when he opens them - I can't wait Grin

7 year old dd is really into How to train your dragon at the moment, so I've bought her 2 dragons & riders which I know she will be so excited to have! I can imagine her little face 😍

On a less exciting note but I know how much she will love them, two puzzle books - a word kriss kross and number version as well. She discovered them in a magazine she had a trial sub for and just loved doing them, so she will be thrilled to have whole books of them!
@sinkgirl I remember the year ds was 4 also autistic and non verbal at the time. He came downstairs and had a complete meltdown because the light in the kitchen wasn't on and then was really distressed about these parcels arriving and the living room looking different. It set the tone for the rest of the day.
BUT he's got older and we learned how better to handle situations and now he's twenty five. We will have bought only the things he's asked for, they will be wrapped in blue paper, I will be allowed to buy surprises for his stocking that he will leave on the table without comment if he doesn't like them. He still won't eat any Christmas dinner so I will cook what he wants and serve on the same blue plate he has used for 23 years. But he will be happy with his gifts, he will enjoy the company of his siblings and I couldn't love him any more if I tried. Merry Christmas to you and your twins
I’m so glad you’ve found a way to make it work for you and your lovely DS. That’s brilliant.

Last year DT1 was quite interested in the gifts and did a tiny bit of unwrapping. They’ve just started at an ASD school and I know they’ve been doing some Christmas things there so I’m hoping they will have more of an idea of what’s happening. Going to try and get them to help me put decorations on the tree in a minute and cut out some gingerbread as I know they’ve done both at school recently so hoping they will get a bit involved. I’m sure we will have a lovely Christmas anyway!

@bluechameleon

This makes me a little sad - I'm not convinced I've got anything either boy is going to really love. I got all the presents out to look at yesterday and I don't think I've done a great job this year. Neither of them has a big 'wow' present, and neither has something they want but aren't expecting. They have things they will like and enjoy but I've slightly missed the mark I think. Ah well.
@bluechameleon I'm sure you have done a great job. Sometimes it's the smallest gifts which bring the greatest joy.
Namechangeforthis88 · 13/12/2020 15:24

@bluechameleon, I definitely haven't felt every year that there was a surprise he would love, it is really hard to predict what the hits will be. He has definitely enjoyed Christmas whether or not I felt like I had an ace up my sleeve.

This is how Christmas is in my house too 😁. Both my dc’s have ASD but dd2 more severe, she actually chooses most of her presents and helps me wrap them (so there’s no unwanted surprises), she’s almost 15 and she never really gets any “wow” items as she knows what she’s getting, she gets Lego every year and a few other things depending on what she’s obsessed with at the time. Dd1 can handle the odd surprise (the iPad will be a bit one) but I can’t guarantee what her reaction will be when she opens it, I never get my hopes up 🤣. Dd1 has pizza for Christmas dinner and often Christmas Eve too. Our Christmas may seem odd to some people but we love it.

LightOfAThousandStars · 13/12/2020 16:05

Such lovely thoughtful gifts, excited for the children to open them up!

@TheGriffle where did you find the giant lol doll? My daughter has lost so many but keeps asking for more Shock

icedaisy · 13/12/2020 16:10

What a lovely thread.

I'm having second baby this week.

Dd two is getting a ride on tractor and trailer. I got it from FB in March! Someone selling as unused at grandparents. It's immaculate and perfect and was a total bargain.

The best bit is she's really come on the last few weeks and keeps telling me about tractors (daddy a farmer) and pointing to pictures in books and saying mine.

I'm so excited to see her little face. Especially as she will be out of sorts with new arrival.

TheGriffle · 13/12/2020 16:16

@LightOfAThousandStars it’s not a giant Lol doll I’m afraid, it’s the Lol surprise amazing surprise set. It’s just in a huge box! I’ve found a pic of it for you.

MrsMiaWallis · 13/12/2020 16:18

I have bought dd2 a pocket watch that looks like an Althiometer. She's going to love it.

LightOfAThousandStars · 13/12/2020 16:22

@TheGriffle thank you! x

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 13/12/2020 16:36

DD9 has a tent. She will be very happy. (Plus other camping bits)
DD7 will be pleased with the grown up, all season sleeping bag, but will be a bit jealous of the tent... But we think she's too young to sleep on campsites in her own one yet. When she's 9/10.

On the smaller stuff... For DD7 probably the 'make your own lip gloss' that her sister has bought her. For DD9 the big pile of books.

Fungster · 13/12/2020 16:40

Nintendo switch. My kids have been asking all year but I've convinced them that we won't be getting one. They will be amazed.

hiredandsqueak · 13/12/2020 16:44

@Lovemusic33 yes it's our Christmas too, might not be typical but it works for us. DD 17 has autism as well, she's more able to manage surprises but we stick to themes that have worked before and she will eat some of Christmas dinner as well.

Emmacb82 · 13/12/2020 17:06

All ds4 has asked for is a mini Christmas tree and some colourful jewels so he will be pleased to see them in his stocking!
Have got him a big box of Lego and a bath toy that’s he asked for ages ago so he will be very happy

ScrapThatThen · 13/12/2020 17:07

None they are too teenage and have asked for very ordinary boring trainers and jackets. 😭.

SpnBaby1967 · 13/12/2020 18:30

DD8 has a bean bag, wasnt on her list but I think she'll love it.

DD11 is dragon mad and I got her a tshirt that says "just a girl who loves dragons" which I know she'll live in for the next 2 years (or 5 minutes given the speed she grows Confused )

DS9 has a switch game he wanted.

Maybe not big ticket items but I know they'll be chuffed

Plsv87 · 13/12/2020 18:41

Lovely thread!

I'm just excited for all of it. Their faces when they see he's been. Can't wait x

Sunfl0wer20 · 13/12/2020 18:48

Not the most impressive or expensive gift but the personalised super Mario pillow I got for DS(4) is going to be a big hit I think.
I think someone else has already mentioned this, but it will be so nice to see the follow up to this thread to see what will actually be the biggest hit and the reactions of the little ones

Oh where was the pillow from please?
Tailrunner · 13/12/2020 19:14

With my youngest I have no idea which present will get the biggest reaction - she is always hard to predict.

I am really looking forward to DD1 opening her iPhone. She usually gets a bit of money from family and she has been saving in the hope she will have enough for a second hand handset by xmas but is worried she won't find one in her budget. She hasn't asked us to buy it as she knows it is expensive but I found a good deal on an iphone in really good condition. She will be so surprised and hopefully very excited.

Rockbird · 13/12/2020 19:33

DD1 (12) is getting an iPhone 11. She is pretty sure she's getting a new phone as her one is old and knackered but I've told her she's got no chance of the purple 11 that she loves, she's expecting a second hand iPhone X.

DD2 (8) is getting the hoverboard that her friend got and she has been desperate for. I've told her we don't have the room for it (we don't but what the hell).

Can't wait to see their faces!

Sunfl0wer20 · 13/12/2020 20:11

@Shantotto it was from amazon.
About £15

DD who is nearly 10 is getting an ipad, which she has no idea about.
she's glued to her phone usually, watching Youtube and playing Roblox, but back in the day when we could still have other people in our house one of her pals came over and she got a shot of her tablet, which she loved
like so many she's struggled this year so hopefully she will love it

MarmaladeTeepee · 14/12/2020 05:23

I am excited to see DS' face when he opens the smart watch he wants but doesn't think we can afford.

I'm worried about DD's presents though, she's nearly 9 and I forgot how much they change at this age. Worried about the impact of covid, I bought all her presents by the end of october (she'd previously gone through the smyths catalogue and pointed out things she liked). However in just those few short months she seems to have changed so much and is no longer LOL obsessed and 90% of her presents are LOLs Confused. I'm hoping it's just a bit of toy fatigue (we don't tend to buy them toys outside of birthdays and Christmas) and when she sees them all she'll be over the moon, but I have doubts.

FiddlefigOnTheRoof · 14/12/2020 05:43

I cannot wait. I can’t wait for my children to laugh uproariously at the funny games we have got them and will play together.

Lots of little ‘bits’ this year, but nothing wasteful, lots of scope for imaginary play. I think they will love them. They didn’t ask for anything in particular, but will be made up to have so many new things.
