I saw a thread on Reddit about normal songs that are unintentally Christmassy. I thought it was an interesting idea for a thread.

At the moment I am making a massive playlist on Alexa, for the Christmas period. I am on the look out for lots of song suggestions, as I don't want to overplay my favourite Christmas songs.

Less well known Christmas songs I have discovered in last few days are....

Yelling at the Christmas Tree by Billy Idol
Seasons Greetings by Cassie DeSilva

I love a spaceman came travelling, it’s so rousing LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA!!

I offer Kate Bush December will be Magic again, heard it on BBC Radio 2 for the first time today and really liked it!

DianaPrinceRocks · 08/12/2020 21:08

Try Winter Song by Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson. No reference to Christmas but it sounds Christmassy Xmas Smile

gabigirl · 08/12/2020 21:19

A Charlie Brown Christmas - get’s a dust off every year. Film & music.

Gatekeeper · 08/12/2020 21:32

I love the one by Greg Lake, I believe in Father Christmas

sueelleker · 08/12/2020 22:57

@LajesticVantrashell

I came on to say "Keeping the dream alive"

Also the Frog Chorus by Paul McCartney - is that just me??

I think the Frog Chorus nearly made no.1 one year.

December Will Be Magic Again by Kate Bush is simply stunning. For some reason, it is not available on Spotify so I can never add it to playlists. I found a really obscure Christmas CD that has it on and I treasure it. I distinctly remember listening to it at my grandparents’ house in the late 80s as a very young child and being utterly mesmerised by it.

Christmas Bop by T Rex is another great obscure one.

I love 'just like christmas' by low and '2000 miles' by the pretenders. Also lots of feel good jazz - Louis Armstrong and Glenn Miller - makes me feel instantly festive.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 10/12/2020 08:04

I second White Winter Hymnal

PaulineScrambledPhones · 10/12/2020 12:04

One that doesn’t get played much (probably due to the nsfw language!) is The Season’s Upon Us by Dropkick Murpheys.

Magnetic North by Alestorm feels Christmassy to me, I think it’s all the ice and snow in the lyrics.

Gatekeeper · 11/12/2020 15:24

Just listened to The Power of Love by Frankie Goes To Hollywood...love that song

OldGreyBoots · 11/12/2020 15:54

Yes - Wondrous Stories. The lyrics are what you might expect from the leading prog band of the 70s/80s, but it's nice and soothing and gently festive Xmas Smile

OldGreyBoots · 11/12/2020 15:56

Oh, and sticking with the prog theme - Ring Out Solstice Bells by Jethro Tull. Impossible to listen to it without smiling imo!

SpacePug · 11/12/2020 16:06

I don't know the name, or the singer (helpful I know!) But the one that a woman sings , goes something like "......the weather will cold....and I'm gonna be a wa--a -a-arm this winter"

Was on a christmas advert once, possibly boots

MistyGreenAndBlue · 11/12/2020 16:27

Put a little love in your heart. Annie Lennox and Al Green
Gaudette. Steeleye Span
Back Door Santa
Clarence Carter (it's rude Grin)

SixFeetUnder · 11/12/2020 16:38

I like 'Mele Kalikimaka' by Bing Crosby, it's hawaiian and you very hear it on the radio or on Christmas playlists but it makes me smile and is fun to say.

Manteo · 11/12/2020 16:43

Winterglow - Grant Lee Phillips

A Charlie Brown Christmas - get’s a dust off every year. Film & music.

It is quite possibly my favorite Christmas song ever. It evokes both happy and sad feelings.

For those who may want to hear it, this is the instrumental version:

WitchesSpelleas · 11/12/2020 17:10

Mull of Kintyre by Paul McCartney - it was a Christmas no. 1 in 1977 but doesn't actually mention Christmas.

Similar for the Frog Chorus!

InTheCludgie · 11/12/2020 21:32

Sixfeetunder that song always reminds me of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation Grin
