Anyone's child found the presents?

I had a close call yesterday when dd went into my wardrobe to get something.

I have all the presents in there hidden at the back.

She didn't mention anything but now I'm worried she will look there if she suspects anything.

Anyone else's dc found the presents? What did you say if they did?

I suppose this year you could use the excuse of Covid, that Santa had to drop the off early to quarantine them or some other reason.
I found my presents when I was younger and. I’m told me that Sant just brings the one special one and those were the ones they had bought and ones to/ from other people and I still believed for a couple of years after that.

Angel2702 · 03/12/2020 06:27

Presents from us yes if they go snooping and I find out then they won’t get that present.

The stocking presents are either put directly in the loft or hidden at my Mum’s, I wrap them in the loft and they don’t come out until they are going in the stockings.

KyraGoose · 03/12/2020 06:39

Wrap them early, then at least if they find them, you can say they are for other people.

weepingwillow22 · 03/12/2020 06:42

I was very sneaky as a child and always used to find my presents. I remember one year going through the stubs in my mum's checkbook to see what rhey had bought. My poor parents eventually resorted to keeping them locked in rhe car boot which was very effective at keeping me out Grin

loutypips · 03/12/2020 06:52

Hidden mine in a different place this year and dd said to me sadly last week "Xmas this year will be rubbish. I've got hardly any presents.
I asked how do you know that. She replied " well there's nothing in the place they usually are". Smile

When my son was 5 I heard a crash upstairs, he had climbed on top of a chest of drawers to be able to reach on top of wardrobe, as he was sure there were presents for him there. He managed to pull down the bags of other presents. Luckily his presents were in the loft. He got talked to about how dangerous it is to climb so high, but he said he couldn’t help it, he wanted the presents so bad. Although he believed in Father Christmas, he also believed that we got the presents.

He was mad for presents, he would spend ages looking through the Argos catalogue, deciding what he wanted.

What was funny though, he was dressed in his action man clothes, so he thought he could do anything physical.

sanityisamyth · 03/12/2020 07:26

I have nowhere to put them but in plain sight in my bedroom. My DS knows they are his birthday and Christmas presents from his grandparents and me. They are all still in their original Amazon boxes. His Santa present hasn't arrived yet but I have no idea where I'll put it when I gets here. I'll wrap them when he's with his dad next weekend.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 03/12/2020 07:32

I have a full holdalll sitting by my dressing table.

No one has thought to ask whats in it.

On the other hand, DD1 has noticed the book sample on my tablet. I don't think she realises that its they because I've purchased the book, she thinks it's an advert. But looks like the Unicorn cookbook willl be a hit.

niki26 · 03/12/2020 07:34

I was storing mine in our summer house in the bottom of the garden ..... I've been gradually wrapping them whilst my daughter is at school and putting them back in but I went to get her birthday presents from there yesterday and it really is very cold in there now! So I think I'll need a new place to hide them! God knows where in our little house!

Soubriquet · 03/12/2020 07:35

Nope! Our dc are not allowed in the garage. Never have been, so presents are in there

trilbydoll · 03/12/2020 07:38

We played hide and seek a while ago and found dd1 in DH's wardrobe, next to the bag of Xmas presents. Luckily we were playing hide and seek in the dark and I don't think it occurred to her to check what she was sitting next to. They're not allowed in our room now Grin

😂 bless her! And well done on your hiding.
wherethewavesarehighest · 03/12/2020 13:24

No, but it's only a matter of time. There is hardly any storage in our house so most of hers are hidden in plain sight (a large zippy shopping bag in my bedroom).
Dd isn't a very sneaky kid, she would probably loudly announce that she is just going to look for Christmas presents or something Grin still best not get too complacent.

livingthegoodlife · 03/12/2020 14:38

My kids found a tablet once, we tried to pass it off as "something for daddy's work" but it didn't really work. 2 years later they have sort of forgotten about it but for ages they went on about how they had seen it.

Now I don't even bring them in the house - all at my mum's house!!

sugarplumfairy2010 · 03/12/2020 14:43

I'm pretty sure my 7 Yr old has been snooping under my bed and found her main present a switch. It was hid inside another box but she casually announced to her brother there was a switch in mums bedroom. She then said she made it up and hasn't seen any presents but I'm not so sure!

Plonque · 03/12/2020 14:55

My teenage DS decided to write me a rude note in my diary (as a joke, not mad about that) ... two pages down from my list of what I've bought for everyone. I don't think I've ever moved as fast when I saw what he was writing in!

I keep all the presents in a locked stationery cupboard in my office, which also has a locked door! I'm pretty sure they've never twigged.

Hohomerryxmas · 03/12/2020 15:04

Only once. I used to hide gifts in the upper compartment in my wardrobes and that year it was chocco-blocked. One the DC must have knocked into my wardrobe and one of the xbox games they'd ask for fell out 🤦‍♀️ I had no idea until I heard squeals of delight coming from their bedroom and found they'd actually opened it up and were playing the game. I told them they must have been extra good that year if santa delivered them an early gift. Moved all the gift out of the compartments that night and put them in bags on top of my wardrobes, and what's what I still do to this day 🤣

ImNotCutOutForThis · 03/12/2020 15:18

Nope. I buy and stash in loft then I sit up there of an eve and wrap in Oct. Then when I continue purchasing after I wrap as I go and stick up there. Then 23rd when kids asleep we bag it all in bin liners and stash in garage. So looks like tip run stuff. Then it's quiet to get out on Xmas eve

sociallydistained · 03/12/2020 15:24

I always went on a hunt for the presents and found them most of the time 🙈 this was when I was quite young, I stopped doing it as I got older as liked the surprise. Still, I don't think I ever made the connection that Santa didn't exists 🤦🏻‍♀️

wendz86 · 03/12/2020 16:25

I've wrapped and hidden some in loft and others are on top of my wardrobe for them so shouldn't find any.

thelegohooverer · 03/12/2020 16:28

I usually keep mine in the attic in the dark corners with a black sheet over them. It’s basically an invisibility cloak.

I have a few stash spots around the house too for when they’re home or off sick and I can’t get to the attic easily. The trick is to keep them looking the same all year round. I store some boxes on the top shelf of the wardrobe but keep them at the front so I can hide something behind them without anyone noticing a difference.

On my bookshelves there’s a gap behind the books where I often keep small things.

I have storage boxes in the attic all neatly labelled and stacked and it hasn’t occurred to either the dc or dh that some of the particularly boring ones are empty or full of gifts.

Sometimes I use the boot of the car and a black sack.

When I bought giant stuffed animals for the dc a few years ago I flattened the boxes and put them behind shelves. Then stored the toys in black bags with some air squashed out, thrown into the back of the attic. On Christmas Eve, when I put the two huge boxes beside the tree even dh was mystified.

With the exception of the enormous stuffies, anything stored in the attic has been wrapped so even if they were to find them, they wouldn’t take in everything in a single glance.

This year, because of covid, I’ve let dh know where to find the dc’s gifts just in case I fall sick. I’m sure I’d be dead ten years before they'd find them.

TheGriffle · 03/12/2020 16:32

My two found some that I’d stashed in the divan drawer of my bed. “Mummy there’s puppies under your bed!” The pound puppies and everything else in there got rehidden sharpish!

Now I make sure presents for other people are in the drawers and on top of my wardrobe, their stuff is shoved to the back and my nieces presents at the front.

OhTheTastyNuts · 03/12/2020 16:42

DS2 hasn't found the actual presents, but I found him happy perusing my Christmas spreadsheet on the laptop the other day. He'd opened excel to do some BODMAS formulas... 🙄
