Am I the only one who doesn’t put their decorations up on the 1st Dec?

Maybe I’m still living in my childhood but I don’t recall all the lights and decks being displayed as early as they are now.
If you’re lucky enough to be able to afford a real tree why would you put it up 3 weeks before the big day so it’s all droopy by the 25th?
I’d rather indulge and celebrate the 12 days of Christmas than make it all about the run up.

No, you’re not.
Our outside lights have gone on today but we won’t be getting a tree for another couple of weeks yet 🎄

Butterflyfluff · 01/12/2020 20:56

Mine went up last week

I don’t like them up after Christmas - I find that depressing, but I’m not religious so the 12 days thing doesn’t factor in for me

I rather enjoy them in the run up to Christmas

dementedpixie · 01/12/2020 20:56

Lots of people are putting them up early this year just for some Christmas cheer. Quite a few of my neighbours have lights and decorations outside already

KipperTheFrog · 01/12/2020 20:56

Our decorations won’t go up till the 13th, they come down on 12th night.

hiredandsqueak · 01/12/2020 20:59

No I don't put them up until the dc have finished at school. I don't like Christmas and hate to drag it out.

dementedpixie · 01/12/2020 20:59

I might put mine up this weekend. Normally down before New Year

Badtasteflump · 01/12/2020 21:00

We don't put ours up for a couple of weeks yet. I have noticed other people's decorations seem to be up earlier and good on them - after such a shit year it's nice to see something cheerful!

Pickledpenguin · 01/12/2020 21:02

Up since last Friday Glitterball

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 01/12/2020 21:04

I don't usually but this year I thought stuff it. Outdoor ones went up today, and a free indoor bits. I won't put tree up til mod Dec though, to make sure it's not all droopy by the 25th. Collecting it this weekend and then it'll sit in a bucket of water in the garage for a week or so.

My parents never decorate until 18th

Audreyseyebrows · 01/12/2020 21:05

We are having a big tidy up on the 11th and tree will go up that week. We’re busy with work so wouldn’t be at home to enjoy it. Both have annual leave that week.

MrsTerryPratchett · 01/12/2020 21:07

Mine went up at work today because we're having an utterly miserable time and everyone needs cheered up and gone ones will go up this weekend, which is a little early for me.

They stay up until 12th night.

Palavah · 01/12/2020 21:07

I think it's sad when stuff goes up so early that people are sick of it by Boxing Day. I like keeping it up over the 'hump' through NY and as close to 12th night as possible.

Tempted to get the tree at the weekend though. I love the smell!

helloxhristmas · 01/12/2020 21:08

We went full on last weekend. I'm usually a 21st December type. Anything to bring a bit of brightness. My kids love spotting a lights / decorations when we walk the dog.

Wtfdidwedo · 01/12/2020 21:09

Mine went up this weekend but my parents in their 60s put theirs up in mid November, just like they always have. Their house is like a grotto and it takes so long to put all their decorations up that it would feel like a waste of time to take it down a week or two later.

CathyorClaire · 01/12/2020 21:10

They go up when Mr Cath gets round to it here. Maybe a week or so before the big day? Left to me it just wouldn't happen. CBA.

funtimefrank · 01/12/2020 21:11

We usually do first weekend in Dec. Did when we were kids too as my mum and dad loved all that, the great big pair of kids.

We don't have a real tree though so makes no difference.

They come down on 2nd jan or thereabouts.

FinallyHere · 01/12/2020 21:12

Advent decorations (including four candles, to light on Advent Sunday) already set up.

Christmas tree up on Christmas Eve, down twelfth night.

rottiemum88 · 01/12/2020 21:13

Why on earth would that make you sad Confused It's just a difference in preference. Personally I like having the tree up throughout December, but have always taken it down on NYE as I like to have a good clean and start the new year afresh. Wouldn't say I'm "sick of it" by Boxing Day, but I've definitely had my fill of Christmas by then, given that the commercial build up is so much longer these days, so for me it's apt that the decorations should be on their way to coming down at that point too. Nothing remotely sad about it.

Cutesbabasmummy · 01/12/2020 21:16

Normally we do it in the next couple of weeks but we did it last weekend. Just to cheer us up!

Umbridge34 · 01/12/2020 21:21

We usually put up on 15 ish and take down before new-year.

I did it all yesterday though, I need some brightness and magic right now. Plus DS was really excited about it.

Even my parents, who have been known to leave it till Christmas eve have put there's up early rise year.

Alittlebitofthis · 01/12/2020 21:27

I'd normally put ours up next weekend but it went up on Sunday. This has been a shit year and I was wanting to get it up to get ds excited about something

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 01/12/2020 21:29

Great, then do that & stop fussing about what others choose to do & making out your way is the 'right' way

If you look after a real tree it will be fine from now to Christmas Day. Most of them are already cut anyway, so it's only about how you treat it once you buy it.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 01/12/2020 21:29

Mine won't go up until the weekend before Christmas.

BrieAndChilli · 01/12/2020 21:33

We always get out real tree the first weekend of December. So it ranges from the 1st-6th. Even when we get it on the first it’s always still green and fine until we take it down on New Year’s Eve. We get very little needle drop and get it from a local forestry place.
You should always cut a small piece of the cut trunk as it starts to seal up once cut so ensuring it’s a fresh cut when you put it into water and then keeping the water topped up helps keep it fresh plus dontnplace it near fire /radiators also helps.

Littlemissnutcracker · 01/12/2020 21:35

We usually wait until next weekend but I have it up today (but not the other decotations)
Dc wanted it up so Elf on the shelf would visit
