I'm watching an old version of a Christmas Carol that's showing on TV at the moment and was wondering how many versions of the Christmas Carol there is and has anyone ever seen them all.
I can think of
Mickey Christmas Carol
Muppets Christmas carol
The Patrick stewert version
This one from the 70's
Scrooged
Any others?

Which one did you watch? Was it the one with George C Scott in? If not, that’s another one.

Howcanwehelp · 29/11/2020 17:40

The info said it was from 1984, but I didn't recognise any people. It is meant to be close to the original book.

Sounds like the George C Scott one.

Filmed in Shrewsbury, my home town. My uncle was an extra when they filmed it 😄

Scrooge - with Albert Finney and Alec Guinness

Howcanwehelp · 29/11/2020 17:42

That's a great claim to fame, when you watch it can you spot him?

Scrooge with Alastair Sim (1951) My personal favourite and essential Christmas Eve viewing in our house.

Was there a version last year on the bbc with an actor whose name escapes me but he moved rooms for the different chapters and it was originally a play and the audience had to follow him around?

TakeMeToYourLiar · 29/11/2020 18:03

Christmas Carol goes wrong was a bbc special a few christmases ago

Doordine · 29/11/2020 18:03

The Disney one with Jim Carey, there was also a modern version with Ross Kemp and the one on the BBC last year (3 part series rather than film) with Guy Pearce

rottiemum88 · 29/11/2020 18:04

Love the Jim Carey animated version

Tomcullenisahero · 29/11/2020 18:04

There's an animated version with Jim Carey in it. A Christmas Carol is my absolute favourite, I re read it every December

ItsALovelyDayToday · 29/11/2020 18:05

Isn’t there a cartoon one with Kate Winslet? Had a lovely song.

BlueDaysTillChristmas · 29/11/2020 18:08

It was 2018, Simon Callow.

BlueDaysTillChristmas · 29/11/2020 18:09

Sorry, that was in reply to my own comment

Howcanwehelp · 29/11/2020 18:24

The Albert Finney musical one. "Thank you very much, thank you very much, that's the nicest thing that anyone's ever done for me..."

InDreamland · 29/11/2020 22:34

@Wishimaywishimight "I hate people, I hate people ...........and I don't care if they hate me" 🤣 that version of A Christmas Carol and the Muppets one are my 2 favourite and I must watch them every year. Can't get over Jacob Marley is Obi Wan Kenobi!

TriflePudding · 29/11/2020 22:37

The BBC did a really good 3 part adaptation last year, Guy Pearce plays Scrooge and he is fantastic in it. It isn’t one to watch with kids though, has some very dark parts.

Sarahlou63 · 29/11/2020 22:40

Was lucky enough to see a Christmas Carol with Patrick Stewart as a one man show in London in about 2003. It was simply magical.

Larach · 29/11/2020 22:40

There's a Kelsey Grammer musical version too.

VestaTilley · 29/11/2020 22:40

The Alastair Simm one is generally seen as the best. DM loves it.

Larach · 29/11/2020 22:43

Plus the Tori Spelling "version" (yes, really): A Carol Christmas.

Antirrhinum · 29/11/2020 22:53

Bill Murray's Scrooged is one I watch every year. Not exactly A Christmas Carol, but close.

Stompythedinosaur · 30/11/2020 01:54

The cbeebies A Christmas Carol panto starring Andy and Robert the Robot is a work of genius.

Oreservoir · 30/11/2020 02:00

The Kelsey Grammar version has Madge from Benidorm in it.
It's a pretty bad production imo.
The actual book is v. short for Dickens standards.
