Christmas treats for yourself

ImRealHonest · 26/11/2020 07:54

I’m spending Christmas alone. I’m an expat so can’t get home to UK to be with family without quarantine at both ends.

I’ve been dating someone, who is traveling to his home country (no quarantine issues for him). My friends either don’t celebrate Christmas or are seeing family.

So. I want to buy myself Treats.

What would you want? I’m thinking things I’d never normally buy, whether cheap, expensive, pointless-but-you-want-anyway, fancy version of normal stuff that you need anyway, that kinda thing. Anything goes - looking for off the wall, random suggestions of things that I might want.

So far I’ve ordered myself:

  • a cuddly toy
  • Himalayan salt blocks for cooking steak
  • a book I’ve been wanting to read
  • a fancy bottle of brandy
  • lego technic
  • make up brushes

I will be spending the day on the beach with cocktails, and cheese and wine at night.

If you were me, what would you be buying yourself?

Sounds fabulous! I'd be buying a new mug (I like them) a massive lot of chocolate....skincare, makeup, books and paints. Grin

MNHQ where are our festive smileys??

PurpleDaisies · 26/11/2020 08:21

I agree with a Christmas mug (there was a nice thread on this earlier).
New hot water bottle and new bed linen.
Posh pyjamas.
Lots of fancy cheese and crackers.

I would be in bed with all those things.

StCharlotte · 26/11/2020 08:26

Pigs in blankets and more pigs in blankets. All the pigs in blankets. I would become a pig in a blanket.

Merry Christmas OP your Christmas sounds lovely Glitterball

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 26/11/2020 08:57

New beachwear/sunglasses so you feel extra special on the beach.

Mustbethewine · 26/11/2020 09:08

New pyjamas, socks, slippers. Agree with the new mug and some fancy hot Chocolte or those hot Chocolte bombs looks super cool! New festive bedding, maybe a dressing gown.

NeverTwerkNaked · 26/11/2020 09:12

I have just bought some lovely Christmas themed novels

Christmas colouring books

Some puzzle books

Space masks.

Scented.candles

Some.new films to watch

(I have a few child free.days after Christmas Smile )

ImRealHonest · 26/11/2020 09:49

Hmmm massive mug, posh hot chocolate, baileys and marshmallows. That sounds like a good idea!

There’s a point, my go-to swimwear shop has closed down. I may need to investigate buying online for something fabulous as I won’t be able to last minute buy that if I decide to

Some fab ideas so far

A trip to Victoria’s Secret may also be in order, to replace my M&S scruffy granny pants.

Sounds great OP!

So far I've ordered myself a GHD heated hairbrush (I'm hoping it's a bit less harsh on hair than straighteners) and I'm planning to get some nice bath stuff (maybe magnesium salts and some nice smelling stuff) and make-up plus maybe some of the following:

  • Disaronno for hot chocolate
  • Thorntons/Hotel Chocolat treats
  • Earrings or a necklace/bracelet

I'd also maybe buy some La Roche-posay suncare if I lived somewhere sunny!

FizzyPink · 26/11/2020 18:59

@Lovely1a2b3c please do report back. I’m very keen on one but decided it was a bit pricey if it doesn’t work

OP I’d buy lots of those lovely snacky bits from M&S that you just put in the oven and have those with champagne in the evening.

I’m jealous you’re somewhere hot enough to be on the beach!!

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 26/11/2020 19:16

Oooh - what a great thread

A nice jigsaw
Some kind of craft kit
A nice facial treatment
A foot spa
A bucket of pigs in blankets!
A party drum of Twiglets
Ingredients to make gravalax
Nice cheese
A good bottle of fizz

I hope you have a wonderful day.

scrivette · 26/11/2020 19:19

Cashmere bed socks and cashmere fingerless gloves.

Another good book in case you finish the first.

Decent chocolate and hot chocolate.

A new sparkly Christmas tree decoration.

MrPanks · 26/11/2020 19:27

I always put a few treats on the coffee table on xmas eve - so I treat myself by not cooking. I usually do:
Turkish delight
Quality street
Twiglets
Cheeselts
After Eights
Olives
Kettle crisps
Nuts

And a bottle of fizz.

Lovely!

Enjoy 😊

A luxury candle? Or two!

I’ve been browsing online but it seems such an extravagance when a) you aren’t able to sniff the tester in a store and b) I’m not convinced that they’re really worth the money.

But if I were you I’d go for it!

katy1213 · 26/11/2020 19:47

You're having the Christmas I want! Cocktails on the beach with a book and no family ... people pay thousands to have a Christmas like that!

Something like that..

Personally I'm having an electric blanket, hair straighteners and a box of charbonell rose and violet creams... I'm also going to take great pleasure in ordering and choosing a bespoke box of chocolate from Audrey in Brighton.
