I've come up with the idea of giving one of my DD's a bundle of her favourite childhood books as part of her Christmas present so that she can read them again with her 3 year old over the coming years. I know this will mean a lot to her. The problem is that I'm struggling to think of enough of them. So far I've got the Velveteen Rabbit, Grandfather Gregory and the Brambly Hedge seasons books. I would really appreciate any help as I am struggling to remember which of the books we had belonged to which era given that I had 5 DD's spread out over 16 years. TIA

Also Bimbo and Topsy - Enid Blyton

And Mr Pink Whistle

Teddy Robinson
Brer Rabbit
Mr Meddle
Mr Twiddle

These are all a bit older. The ones I had at 3 were specific editions of fairytales that I’ve not been able to track down.
I do remember some with illustrations by either Eric or Lucy Kincaid.

I also had some Miffy ones but I didn’t like them.
Noddy.
Twinkle comics/annual

What a lovely idea!

I find the Shirely Hughes Alfie books massively nostalgic even though I don't really remember reading them as a child. The wonderful illustrations really capture a late 70s/early 80s childhood though and Alfie's mum really reminds me of how my mum used to look when I was little.

For Christmas, The Jolly Christmas Postman would be perfect to read with a 3 year old.

Teddy Robinson, My Naughty Little Sister, everything by the Ahlbergs, Milly Molly Mandy.

I also loved Astrid Lindgren's stories about the Bullerby children, and looked everywhere for them, and found they are available as The Children of Noisy Village.

So many of the ones on here are on my shelves.

What a lovely idea.

Lovely idea! I don't think anyone has mentioned Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfield yet - it was 'old' when I was young but I absolutely adored it.

I'm a 1979 baby and the serendipity series was my absolute favourite. I loved them and they really gave me a love of reading. I've since gone on to have my own writing published and have a degree and an ma in English and creative writing.
