Help! Teenage DD. No presents

ArthurChristmas2 · 20/11/2020 22:48

So, my lovely girl is just 15. My shopping is pretty much done apart from her. I have no presents whatsoever. She’s never asked for anything, ever. She’s not into brands. She has a phone, a laptop, kindle, new camera for birthday. She doesn’t really need any new clothes. She rarely wears jewellery. She does a lot of dance but we’ve either had to buy equipment as it was needed or she has regulation uniform. I am so clueless it’s frightening. Please hit me with your DD lists and ideas. Desperately seeking something to get her (I also have to get both sets of grandparents).

An Oodie, and some fluffy PJ’s and fluffy socks from Primark when they open.
Luxury hot chocolate with a bag of mini marshmallows, and a nice mug. Preferably a Christmas themed one - there’s some nice ones in Tesco right now.
A fleecy blanket and matching cushions for her bed - try the Teddy Bear range at Dunelm. They also do a big matching backrest pillow for when sitting on their beds.
A necklace from Tiffany.
Hair straighteners or a hairdryer.
Starbucks voucher.
Matching bobble hat and scarf from Topshop.
Joni jeans from Topshop.
Teenage girls are appalling mad for bright, white trainers.

  • apparently going mad for bright, white trainers.
Jroseforever · 21/11/2020 07:38

Some beautiful frames for her photography?

Theredjellybean · 21/11/2020 07:38

Similar issue here with dsd aged 17 who is anorexic, just in early recovery... So no food or cooking related items, no clothes, not wearing makeup.
I have bought all the set up for an aquarium for her room, and printed pictures of fish she can put in it plus voucher for buying fish from pet shop.

Jroseforever · 21/11/2020 07:39

A monthly spice subscription with associates recipe

milienhaus · 21/11/2020 07:42

ScrawlrBox subscription? It’s a monthly box with quirky art materials (graphite paint, paint markers, etc) - I LOVE it.

pinkiepromise123 · 21/11/2020 07:46

@Holothane

Luxury toiletries and I mean luxury a weighted blanket, an oodie, dancers tights leotards quality ones, favourite dance books say a history of dance. Sorry not much help.

Bloch warmup booties for going to and from dance classes. DD likes the slightly more expensive ones that have an outdoor sole.
A dance photo shoot with one of the photographers that are ‘big names’ on Instagram, if she’s into that sort of thing. They are doing socially distanced shoots, so not affected by COVID unless lockdown.
A few pretty leotards (Bloch have some gorgeous wintery jewel colours like dark green, dark purple etc) to wear at photoshoot...

sashh · 21/11/2020 07:55

SHe sounds like me at 16, making clothes and photography.

Have a look at photography equipment. Does she have a DSLR? In my day it was lenses, coloured flash and filters, lenses are probably still a good idea.

I had a kit to make a pin hole camera / camera obscura, I also made photograms but she will need chemicals to develop them. Basically you expose photographic paper to light with objects on the paper.

Some specialist lighting and / or reflective disks.

On the clothes making does she have her own machine? Does she have a tailor's ham and a sleeve board? How about a box of haberdashery items? Good scissors? Different pins / tailor's chalk, and a nice case to keep things in.

Well done you for raising a hardworking pragmatic daughter who isn’t materialistic! It’s so easy to give into the temptation nowadays and become brand or possession obsessed. Good on her!

Driving lesson mentioned up thread sounds fab. It improves her employability no matter what she does in the future. Get it out of the way before busy a level kicks in, or having to do it during uni years where she would undoubtedly be very busy.

Beautiful3 · 21/11/2020 08:07

I've bought mine oodies! Apparently they're a thing among the teens around here. New teddy bear fleece bed sheets, slippers and pyjamas. Make up bag with a long lasting lip gloss and mascara. Tub of sweets and the usual Ripleys strange but true annual!

sailingmummy · 21/11/2020 08:09

My daughter is 14 and difficult to buy for too ....however last Xmas she was given a (cheap) bullet journal which she avidly filled in every day ..even on holiday! This year I've ordered her a posh one with gold embossing on it and her name printed on it too from Papier. I'm a teacher and was able to get 20% discount too, so look around for a discount code! I'll get her new brush pens and a long hot water bottle too!

I foubd giving money in creative ways is good... In a money box, pound coins in a box with chocolate coins, money in a puzzle box they have to figure out how to open... Adds a bit of something to open without wasting money on things they don't want.

Toddlerteaplease · 21/11/2020 08:15

How about some Bose Soundsport earphones. They are a much more secure fit and better sound than AirPods. The sound quality is loads better. And they are joined with a wire so you don't loose them.

You lot are great and this thread is brilliant! I've been feeling quite low and not started getting things for Christmas yet. 3 girls to get for and this thread has given me so many ideas. Thank you!

FAQs · 21/11/2020 09:07

@Howmanysleepsnow what are exploding kittens? Slightly hesitate to google that ha!

@ArthurChristmas2 thank you for posting, I've got a few ideas from lovely people now and hope you have.

dementedpixie · 21/11/2020 09:10

Exploding kittens is a card game. Not too dangerous
