How to secure a garland to stairs please?

I'd like to buy this extra long White Company garland to use in a very similar way to the way they have in the photos - albeit that my staircase isn't nearly as grand. But it is a similar shape, spindles, handrail etc.

How would i secure it though please? I've only ever laid a garland on a mantlepiece before, but I do fancy having something lovely on the stairs.

I don’t like gsrdlsnds on the bannister, it makes it hard to hold.

I weave them in and out of the spindles.

Florists wire- you can see it in the picture- they have used green you can get silver Amazon or Ebay
But I use a visible ribbon- gingham but whatever colour suits the garland and add bows onto the finials

aaaah. I hadn't thought about the handrail being difficult to hold as you walk up and down the stairs. I may have to put it at the base, so along the bottom of the spindles instead, like in this pin which I hope you can see. Would the florist wire work with that, do you think please?

I use some Christmas ribbon that kind of matches the garland, and then it hangs slightly under the handrail, meaning it can still be used.

Florists wire will work both from the handrail and along the base. I use the handrail, tying every third bannister, then use red ribbon with bows to cover the wire.

Thank you. I am hoping to find a cheaper (but equivalent) garland, but having no luck. I am not at all creative, I need to buy something complete already and then put it straight up. Fingers crossed.

I secure mine to the bottom of my bannister with green cable ties.

I put mine along the base of the stairs as well. It’s a lot easier to get it to sit right as well. I’ve always used green ribbon but I might use wire this year as my dc are older and not as curious and touchy feely now.

I secure mine with ribbon, at the bottom of the spindles so the handrail is clear. I hang it so that it swags rather than straight up, I think it looks nicer that way

Thanks all. I think I will use cable ties - they may be a better option with a thicker, heavier garland. I am also likely to be putting it up on my own so they might make it easier.

Garland ties

I wind lights around the spindles then attach foliage to the lights. I've used a multitude of things to attach them in the past, ribbon, wire, thread, clear cable ties, the leaves hide whatever I use.

I weave mine through the bottom of the spindles and use red ribbon tied in bows at a few intervals to secure it.

I use cotton thread to hold the garland to the spindles

Cable ties - long clear plastic slightly rubbery ones that can be re-used .
Then a ribbon to ponce it up a bit .

We just use really big cable ties. And then cover it over with ribbon.

Another vote for cable ties. My garland is quite heavy and cable ties are the only things that holds it up.

I'm making a note to buy some green ones as a pp suggested.

Depends on the stairs. I make ours and use florist wire and ribbon to wrap as I go.

Gardeners twine from garden centre or similar

we use the reuseable cable ties that have been mentioned, got ours from the range. Think we needed 2 packs as the spindles our our stairs are very chunky

We put our garland at the bottom of the spindles, and hang baubles in the spaces between the spindles (hung off push pins pushed into the underside of the handrail). Always a talking point with visitors

sorry it's not the best shot, had to screen grab one of my old fb posts as I don't have any pics on this laptop. It looks fuller these days since I learnt the tip about putting a plainer, cheap garland beneath it to 'pad' it out. If I remember, I'll take a picture for you when I decorate this weekend

I use dental floss. It’s really strong and doesn’t show against white paintwork.
