Thread 20 - the one with the reminder to put the bargain info *in bold*

Reastie · 15/11/2020 21:49

please post any bargain info IN BOLD to make it easier to scroll through the thread.

To make things bold you:
Put a star each side of what you want to make bold like this but without the space between the star and the writing *

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

Here’s Barbarara’s instructions from last year on doing clicky links:

Open double square brackets
No space
Paste link
Space
Name of link
No space
Close double square brackets

Like this
[[www.amazingbargains.com bargain ]] but with no space after/before the brackets.
If I do it again without the extra spaces only the word bargain will appear in blue

For more links etc see message 2

If any link doesn’t work or you want to add something please let me know by @ing me Thanks

@Reastie, @ShandlersWig and @lexloofah - Thank you all for your suggestions re: Small glass tumblers I’ll have a look at these websites.

Whyisitsodifficult · 17/11/2020 12:44
@Whyisitsodifficult Do you know which ones he has asked for, the Ciao ones tend to be a bit cheaper but have a much smaller barrel and hold less ink than the Sketch ones, so if he does a lot of marker art they will need refilling more frequently. Places like www.jacksonsart.com/ www.graphicsdirect.co.uk and theartshopskipton.co.uk/ have some, mainly the ciao but Jacksons had Sketch markers on their site too. They are worth it though if he is serious about art and illustration. I use promarkers personally, which are cheaper but still good quality, but Copics have a brush nib on one end which Promarkers don't.
I’ll check out those websites thanks. He likes the Sketch ones, he’s already got about 9 and is hooked I’m not sure I’ll get him onto anything else. To be fair to him he does a lot of doodling and spends hours on them I guess the fact they can be refilled is useful. Just a lot of money!
@Whyisitsodifficult Copic is a brand name. if you search for “dual tip alcohol markers” you’ll find plenty of generic ones ]].

Be aware that the paper makes a difference too. You need reasonable thick paper for best results.
Yes I think he’s been sucked into the Copic brand now as he has a few already. I didn’t realise that about the paper, am I looking for anything particular with the paper, is it gsm?

BonnesVacances · 17/11/2020 12:47

I'm looking for some Neom candles. Has anyone seen any offers for those please? Neom has 15% off for a first order, but I'm hoping to better that.

Anydreamwilldo12 · 17/11/2020 12:57

@Whyisitsodifficult instead of the copic pens have you thought about a digital drawing tablet? For the price of a bunch of pens you can get a decent tablet where he can doodle along to his hearts content.

wildroseandpink · 17/11/2020 12:57

@Lellyo

Hi does anyone have any experience of the Aldi milk frother or should I wait and hope the Lavazza one is reduced on BF?
IT IS AMAZING AND COMPLETES MY MORNING
ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 17/11/2020 13:03

@selina25 if you sign up to the cyberjammies mailing list they usually send you a discount code?

Just been on Go Groopie - I haven't bought from there before and it seems a bit more of a faff than Groupon, but they had some bits which I think people upthread were looking for:

mermaid tail blankets
Swarovski heart necklaces
iPad mini
gaming chairs

You can pay via PayPal so should be able to get money back if there's any issues!

Carrie76 · 17/11/2020 13:07

Be careful if you’re buying from Go Groopie just checked reviews and they’re terrible. An iPad mini for £60 is enough to convince me it’s dodgy!

caffeineanddryshampoo · 17/11/2020 13:07

Regarding Redbubble, it used to all be printed in America but they seem to be printing all over the place now. I guess where it's printed impacts on the price. Where does my order print and ship from?

Carrie76 · 17/11/2020 13:08

For ROI shoppers Smyths have some LEGO offers today

flossiegrippiter · 17/11/2020 13:16

@BonnesVacances not a huge amount more but often ASOS do 20% on random nights between 7-9pm and they stock NEOM

IfyoushouldmeetaCrocodile · 17/11/2020 13:16

Thanks @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl.

Oh no @BicycleMadeForTwo they're the ones I'm waiting for Sad

SkintSanta · 17/11/2020 13:26

£5 off £25 at early learning centre

@BonnesVacances Neom do great offers on Black Friday. Last year every day was a different full sized free gift with purchase.

weebarra · 17/11/2020 13:30

Any ideas which is the best Styling Head doll? DD would like one but they all seem to have crap reviews!

MissMarple0203 · 17/11/2020 13:43

@carrie76 Papier do nice ones, especially the productive ones

IggyAce · 17/11/2020 13:43

Code nov40 gets you 40% off any subscription with Birchbox

I actually quite like the ‘old school ness’ of him using pen and paper I just wish he’d started on cheaper pens! He plans to be an illustrator when he’s older so I guess this is good training.

nicky2512 · 17/11/2020 13:44

Daisy829 and greyinganddecaying Thank you both for that. Will have a look and maybe better get sorted today then rather than waiting for bargains.
He says he prefers the smaller size so will go for that as long as it does what is needed. Thank you.

JoHo123 · 17/11/2020 14:04

@Sunshineskies What about a Christmas magazine to leaf through? They have more mature crafts at the back. Or some complex snowflake templates if she’s crafty?

Looks like that's quite old version of the iPad mini which is now out of support, so may be quite limited in it's application e.g. you are unlikely to be able to use apps that have been newly released since about 2017, and might not be able to use apps when they have updates and go out of support.

DinosaurOfFire · 17/11/2020 14:07

@Whyisitsodifficult The copics are supposed to be amazing, they will set him up in good stead for the future as well if he wants to be an illustrator- they are professional quality and alcohol markers don't dry up if the lids are put on properly and they are stored flat rather than on their ends, I'm still using markers I bought around 15 years ago and they are as good as new. Copies like the amazon ones linked won't be any good in comparison.

Paper wise, Copic do their own marker pen paper, or Windsor and Newton do a marker pad too which is coated on one side so the ink doesn't bleed through, and means he can do blending techniques as the ink doesn't sink in. Using absorbent paper means the markers get used up quicker and dont blend so well. I haven't found a better marker paper myself than this one. www.amazon.co.uk/Winsor-Newton-Bleedproof-Paper-Sheets/dp/B017TZM0XS?tag=mumsnetforu03-21 It can be found in loads of art places, the range, and WHSmiths, and comes in a3 as well as a4. Digital drawing tablets are nothing like actual paper drawing, so I would recommend he stays with physical illustrating and develops his skills that way, it'll open up more opportunities through fine art and so on as well as he gets older and refines his style.

LeaderoftheAteam · 17/11/2020 14:16

Penhaligons question! A bit late to the party but know people have done some orders a few threads ago. I ordered last week and received a package today, but absolutely nothing of my order! I ordered 2 gift sets and got a free perfume. Instead it's lip balm, handsoap and body wash. The dispatch paper inside has my name and address on but not my order number and obviously none of the items I've ordered. Has this happened to anyone else? Did your actual order turn up. I was really in two minds about ordering with this because of so many bad reviews but I gave them a punt, regretting it now!

Helssjbells · 17/11/2020 14:16

Hello!!! I posted a while ago about wanting to get a fun, brightly coloured gnome....a few people recommended ASDA...are they in stock yet? Our ASDA is miles away and I don’t want to make a trip unless they’ve got them! X
