What has your 5 year old girl put on her list?

Lou573 · 10/11/2020 13:15

My dd is lucky to have generous extended family and over the years has all the obvious presents for birthdays and Christmas - scooter, bike, dollhouse, kitchen, trampoline...

I have a few little bits for her this year but not the big ticket item from Santa - she can ask for what she wants obviously but given that she doesn’t go to shops at the moment or watch adverts she doesn’t seem to have any ideas herself so is quite suggestible! Given that it’s been a horrid year and she’s been such a good girl with a new baby sister I would like to spoil her a bit.

What are you/Santa getting your 5 year old girls please?!

My DD turned 5 in Sep, she has asked for:

A new tea set
A LOL doll and LOL pet (this was news to me!)
The polly pocket fairground
Pokemon balls
PJ masks figures

What she wants most is My Little Pony characters, so we have a heavy tv character influence this year!

She has once mentioned a new baby set but I'm not getting that as I've bought 3 over the years and the LOL doll is like a baby so that will do

CloudyVanilla · 10/11/2020 14:07

My DD is similar in that we have the typical presents you mentioned already and she doesn't watch tv with advertisement, its either cbeebies or movies.

She did see the polly pocket on an advert but had also watched the show on netflix. She must have picked up LOL dolls from school! Must get used to that happening.

user686827 · 10/11/2020 14:13

Honestly mine have not been more excited by big presents than smaller so if they don't ask for something big like a bike or dolls house it's not any less exciting. Their main present to me could be a doll or a box of Lego.

Lou573 · 10/11/2020 14:33

@user686827 you’re absolutely right, they have no concept of cost and the littlest things can be the favourites. I do like to try and avoid mountains of clutter though, so would rather buy a decent present that gets played with than a pile of smaller bits. I guess you can’t always predict what will stand the test of time though!

My dd is 4, turning 5 in March :(. She wrote her list on Sunday after having looked in the Smyth’s catalogue. She’s asked for more barbies, sylvanians, blow pens and a real reindeer Hmm. I’ve bought her the barbie food truck, the new barbie with horse, the barbie limo set, colour reveal barbie slumber party set, some family and educational games, sylvanian tree top adventure, some new Sylvanian families, awaiting something coming in stock from Smyths, a polly pocket bag thing that was on offer at Smyths, books, bath bombs, I made use of the aldi wooden toy event I got her the festival food truck and dressing table, some more things which I can’t remember I need to get into my secret hiding place and see what else I have actually. I’m debating getting her a new scooter going to see what deals are on this month with the one I keep looking at. I love this age so much, my eldest is 11 she’s a pain to buy for. I hope I’ve given you a few ideas.

Lou573 · 10/11/2020 15:05

Thank you, she has a few barbies and sylvanian families but they don’t come out very often. She prefers her playmobil, but we have SO MUCH of it already, more than she can play with at any one time. I’ve got her a polly pocket put away already but again, the ones she already has don’t come out very often. She loves crafts but we have everything already I think! She did once show an interest in a Lego friends set we saw so I might go with that, more bits of small plastic to hoover up!

Ah, but smaller presents don't have to be tat. I also try to avoid tat and go for quality but the wooden kitchen, wooden market, puppet theatre, indoor climbing frame and wobble board have probably been used the least. Have you had a look on ethical toy sites for ideas like Babi Pur or Yes Bebe? My 4 year old is getting a Yoto Box this year which might be a good idea for your DD.

ginberry4 · 10/11/2020 23:33

My 5yo is hoping for
Lego friends sets
Our generation doll & outfit
Barbie dreamhouse
New scooter
Ken doll
Sylvanians
Jellycat Teddy
Isadora Moon book

Her birthday is coming up soon too so she will get some of these things for birthday, some for Christmas. Plus stocking filler bits. Not all from us!

Oh & if your dd doesn’t already have one, you can’t go far wrong with a skipping rope. We got a lovely unicorn one from monsoon for dd’s 5th birthday & it’s been one of her most played with items, and only cost about £5!!!

DigitalChristmas · 10/11/2020 23:48

DD has spoken about friends Lego set
Sylvanian families
“Pretty” dresses

Oh and a packet of biscuits just for her!

DinosaurOfFire · 10/11/2020 23:55

My 5 year old has asked for Rainbow High dolls, unicorns (will be Schleich ones), the giant polly pocket backpack fairground thing, and build a bears. She's also having some minecraft figures. I personally prefer the Rainbow High dolls to the LOL OMG dolls as they're just a bit sweeter and seem less grown up. She also doesn't see adverts, these are all bits she's seen when we've been in toyshops or from the catalogue.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 11/11/2020 00:10

@LucyCharlotteP wow that's a shitload of stuff! Shock

squishedlemons · 11/11/2020 00:11

My 5 year old has asked for a kitten, she has asked for a kitten for every single Christmas since she could talk. Last year she cried because she didn't get a kitten. We got a kitten in September..... she is asking Santa for another kitten 🤦‍♀️ honestly this year I'm a bit stumped, we have some Barbie stuff, possibly going to try to get a bike, we will not be getting another kitten. 😂

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 11/11/2020 00:12

My girls have both always had lots of smaller gifts rather than one big thing. But usually a theme, so a selection of lol dolls that then end up stored together.

This year dd2 quite likes the look of cave club dolls - kind of girly dinosaur sets. (Shes 8 but quite young in her tastes, still watches/plays paw patrol and chip and potato!)

At 5 dd2 was all about paw patrol, she got the big truck and different cars/pups to go with it.

Dd1 (now 12!) Loved happyland still at 5. She liked disney character figures to go with a new dvd.

Both mine loved dressing up (still do!) Their box is filled with hats, wigs, jewellery and random bits like haiwaian skirts, crowns, fabric and wants. but that could be a fun gift especially if you find a nice chest to store it all in, maybe personalised?

Pumpkinstace · 11/11/2020 00:25

Mine wants a rainbocorn

StormyInTheNorth · 11/11/2020 00:26

A LOL house. LOL dolls, LOL pet, LOL watch, LOL karaoke machine, LOL clothes, LOL make up, a sloth and a rainbow magic book.

DD likes LOL. In fairness, they're not that bad. DD has a lot of LOLs and plays with them everyday so they are value for money in our case. They can be fiddly and the bits go missing if you're not careful.

Mine's on the top end of five.

StormyInTheNorth · 11/11/2020 00:27

I meant to add. She won't get all of that LOL stuff. I haven't got over the cost of the house yet.

Merinocool · 11/11/2020 10:22

My 5year old DD is getting

Barbie dream house
Barbie sparkle horse set
Princess dress up set
Polly pocket backpack play set
Frozen castle (a smaller one)
Elsa set with a horse
A few barbies
Barbie car

Board games
Jigsaw puzzle
Book
Pjs

A few other random bits I’ve picked up in the Disney store, she’s absolutely Disney and barbie obsessed at the minute.

AliceMcK · 11/11/2020 11:18

Thanks all, some ideas here. I did try and order a smyths catalogue so she could take a look but apparently there are no more this year!

My daughter is 4, she has just had a baby sister too! As well as starting school and covid! So it has been a pretty wild year for her too. She has asked for buzz woody and jessie. She has started to talk about wanting a barbie and a spider man too, so I've passed that on to grandparents! She also asked for a remote control car, then said to her dad can you ask father Christmas for one too so we can race? So cute, I got them in the 2 for 15 on argos and I'll wrap them both up from father Christmas. My OH was very excited by this too and picked out which car he wanted Haha I have also got her a few more books and puzzles :). I got her this wooden tetris like puzzle and and rubix cube instead of the usual puzzles I get her to see how she gets on.

bookworm14 · 11/11/2020 15:05

My DD aged 5 has asked for this monstrosity:

www.thetoyshop.com/dolls-soft-toys/dolls/fashion-dolls-and-accessories/FailFix-Take-Over-The-Makeover-Doll---%40Loves-Glam/p/547180

Plus usual Lego friends, LOL, Sylvianians. She’s also asked for ‘a net to catch fish and bugs’, I think because we saw some children fishing with a net on holiday this year.

Carrie76 · 11/11/2020 15:19

My 5yr old is getting (from family, Santa etc):
Frozen Garmin
Polly pocket shopping mall
Roller skates
Art and craft box
Rainbow teddy
Pogo stick
Sylvanian school
Lava lamp
LEGO friends
Set of books

17caterpillars1mouse · 11/11/2020 19:19

My 4.5yr old is getting a secondhand Sylvanian family house with furniture and a rabbit family to add to her collection and a box of 1990 beanie baby cats to add to her collection (from ebay)

Then she has a selection of sticker, colouring, magic painting books, jigsaw puzzle, books and other little bits and pieces I know she will love.

Though looking at these other lists I wonder if I've bought her enough toys

Ginnymweasley · 11/11/2020 19:25

I have got my 5 year old:-
A barbie fold up house
Barbie clothes
Lego
Books (lots she loves to read)
Baby clothes
New pram for her baby (her toddler brother sat in her old one and broke it)
Incredibles toy
Frozen watch
Board games
And she will have a few stocking fillers as well.
