Do you ‘wrap as you buy’ or ‘wrap it all in one go on Xmas Eve’?

I usually wrap presents over a few days in December but this year I don’t seem to have much space to gently store wrapped presents without ripping paper. I have always thought leaving it until Xmas Eve is crazy but I’m considering doing it this year.

So when do you wrap?

Is it possible to do it all in one night, going on the fact my kids are teens and won’t be in bed early 🤔

Wrap as I go. I genuinely enjoy wrapping and cannot wait until xmas eve to wrap things.

Iwanttogetthisright · 09/11/2020 21:27

We wrap all in one go either on Christmas Eve or in the few days before. When I’ve wrapped earlier I’ve ended up having to retape corners on Christmas Eve and they just don’t look nice.

Every year we fall out because my DH is the wrapper and I want him to do it before Christmas Eve but of course he won’t be told what to do or when to do it Hmm

BillyAndTheSillies · 09/11/2020 21:27

I always do the stocking presents on Christmas Eve. Once the kids are in bed, DH and I crack open a bottle of brandy and get wrapping with loads of snacks and Christmas songs.

Presents for under the tree get wrapped whenever I get a chance. This year, likely to be Christmas Eve. Mainly because I have a very hands on one year old and daren't risk him unwrapping all and sundry's presents at any given opportunity.

Gosh no. Not Christmas Eve. The wrapping paper would be soggy with my tears! Grin. I usually start wrapping late November early December and aim to be done by the middle of December.

Moooms · 09/11/2020 21:29

I wrap all at once. But not necessarily on Christmas Eve.
I just wrap (the kids) presents all at once when I think I've got everything. Then I can choose a day when I am undisturbed to have a wine, lay it all out, assess and wrap.

Wowcherarestalkingme · 09/11/2020 21:31

I used to do it all in one go about a week before Christmas, but now DS is 4 he is far too nosy and we have very limited storage so I’ve been wrapping as I go this year.

Squirrelblanket · 09/11/2020 21:32

I would wrap all at once but never on Christmas Eve. What a waste of Christmas Eve!

TheCrow · 09/11/2020 21:34

Apart from presents I have to post to family members living in various parts of the country I do it all in one day, but definitely not Christmas Eve! Usually mid-December, wait til I have a day to myself, hot chocolate in my Christmas mug, cheesy Christmas film on the TV, take up the whole living room. Love it, makes me feel really festive

Lovemusic33 · 09/11/2020 21:34

Yes, I’m thinking I will regret it if I leave it until Xmas Eve and I totally forgot about wrapping stocking presents. I think I’m just going to have to find more space to store stuff. I love wrapping but usually after a hour I have had enough.

I tend to wrap a couple of weeks in dec what I've brought so far. Family has a birthday a few days before xmas so weve always made sure xmas presents were wrapped by then.

Thewinterofdiscontent · 09/11/2020 21:38

One go because it takes me two months to decide on paper. Different for Father Christmas, cool paper for friends, DH special paper etc. I have to make sure all gifts are there ready before the next stage.
We have to travel so done day ( night ) after school breaks up.

helloxhristmas · 09/11/2020 21:38

All at once but not Christmas Eve. I usually take a day off the week before when the kids are still in school and do it then.

ShowOfHands · 09/11/2020 21:39

I do the children's at the end of November and sort it in bags ready to go (stocking stuff in one bag, main presents in another, repeat for each child) and put it all in the roof of the garage ready for Christmas Eve.

Presents for everybody else we do as a family by the tree, lights on, candles lit, nibbles, nice drinks, music playing etc. Sometimes we watch a film too. Everybody pitches in writing labels and tying ribbons. It's a really lovely bit of Christmas. When the dc were younger, they did the paper chains and popcorn stringing then too.

thedogandthecat · 09/11/2020 21:40

I want to wrap as I go but I despise it so tend to do it in one go

mathanxiety · 09/11/2020 21:41

I don't wrap anything. Santa has no time for that kind of faffing, with five DCs.

Now that they're older, the DCs exchange gifts among themselves and give me a gift, on Christmas Eve after a nice dinner and dessert.

They wrap the gifts whenever they arrive home and put them under the tree. When they were all younger we opened gifts from relatives/ godparents that evening. We always have quite a festive Christmas Eve.

BefuddledPerson · 09/11/2020 21:42

We do it all on Christmas Eve Eve, is a nice time for us. We just tell the older ones to make themselves scarce once youngers in bed.

InTheLongGrass · 09/11/2020 21:42

Wrap all in one go, but not on Xmas eve!!
Stocking stuff doesnt get wrapped!!

JamMakingWannaBe · 09/11/2020 21:43

Half of mine are already wrapped (immediate family). The other half are waiting for delivery of DC's "Xmas design" school fundraising card / paper. I'm getting so impatient I phoned the company for a delivery update and gifts will be wrapped and posted the following week.

popcorndiva · 09/11/2020 21:45

I wrap mid December so it stays in tact for the big day. After wrapping we each have a sack so presents get kept safely in there. Other presents get posted to their recipients so they are there in time for Christmas

plixy · 09/11/2020 21:47

Me & my husband have always wrapped in one go, the weekend before Christmas. And we always traditionally watch the same two movies while we do it.
However this year we have an 18 month old to contend with so things might be a bit different! Considering sending her to the grandparents for the afternoon. I remember wrapping with an inquisitive puppy in the house, I imagine this will be harder!

BikeRunSki · 09/11/2020 21:50

Wrap it all at once whilst watching SPOTY.

SlippersForFlippers · 09/11/2020 21:51

Usually do all at once on a night in December but we don't have much to wrap

Shelby30 · 09/11/2020 21:52

It takes forever! I cldnt wrap as I went it wld get ripped and bashed about. I usually start in December and have various sittings doing pressies for hours 😭 although I like making them fancy and look nice lol. I'll still be wrapping Xmas eve though. I don't get much time without the kids around so will mainly be their stuff at that point.

mineofuselessinformation · 09/11/2020 21:53

Wrap as you go and keep a list so you know what you've already got.
Definitely don't leave it until the night before, especially if you've got things that need bastard stickers on them.
Been there, done that.....

RoseMartha · 09/11/2020 21:54

Wrap as I go
