Do you ‘wrap as you buy’ or ‘wrap it all in one go on Xmas Eve’?

I usually wrap presents over a few days in December but this year I don’t seem to have much space to gently store wrapped presents without ripping paper. I have always thought leaving it until Xmas Eve is crazy but I’m considering doing it this year.

So when do you wrap?

Is it possible to do it all in one night, going on the fact my kids are teens and won’t be in bed early 🤔

Who on earth would be sad enough to spend their Christmas Eve wrapping presents? We do it all in one go though

Mother2princess · 09/11/2020 22:05

Christmas eve usually

LM20 · 09/11/2020 22:07

I wrap as a I buy, I have a note on my iPhone for Christmas and each persons name with the item(s) I’m buying - if their purchased they get a tick alongside them.

@BillyAndTheSillies

I always do the stocking presents on Christmas Eve. Once the kids are in bed, DH and I crack open a bottle of brandy and get wrapping with loads of snacks and Christmas songs.

Presents for under the tree get wrapped whenever I get a chance. This year, likely to be Christmas Eve. Mainly because I have a very hands on one year old and daren't risk him unwrapping all and sundry's presents at any given opportunity.

That sounds lovely and festive 🎄 🎅🏻

Don't understand why wrapping presents for your kids is 'sad'? I don't do it Christmas Eve but only due to not wanting to be knackered next day. It's a nice thing to do imo, I love it. We have a drink, watch a film, what's not to like?

EminyBOO · 09/11/2020 22:11

Usually on Christmas Eve, but this year I’m definitely not going to leave it that late. This is the last present from last year, wrapped with the last scraps of paper. It was a hairy moment!

Do you ‘wrap as you buy’ or ‘wrap it all in one go on Xmas Eve’?

We did it as a family on Christmas Eve last year. Set it all up in our bedroom, I did the DCs and DH's, then the DCs came in and did theirs for us and then DH did his, it was nice and festive with us all coming and going and we were able to take them straight downstairs and set them out for the morning without having to put them all away again in between. It helps that we mainly use re-usable bags now and only use paper for stocking presents, that speeds things up a lot.

essieestherson · 09/11/2020 22:16

I wrap all of mine in one go at the beginning of December, usually a few days after the tree has gone up - while watching Gavin and Stacey Christmas special and drinking Baileys. 🎄

bagginses · 09/11/2020 22:20

Usually over a couple of evenings once the tree is up. I wedge presents in all sorts of places so would end up tearing the paper if I did it as I wrap.

Msfoxy17 · 09/11/2020 22:26

Gosh I have never considered wrapping as I go.. I really.love a good wrapping session and this tends to be around 23rd December, maybe during the day on 24th (depending on when I have bought the last pressie!) I also wrap any presents my husband has bought (apart from those for me) as I enjoy it so much. I like buying nice paper and bits to go with and making them look lovely..I might make a bit more effort this year to find more ecofriendly paper though.

NullcovoidNovember · 09/11/2020 22:33

Oh god, the rookie mistake of an Xmas eve wrap. Exhausting.

It's mostly wrapped right now, hiding in plain site in the bedroom in black bin liners.

Iwanttogetthisright · 09/11/2020 22:34

I’m happy with week of Christmas just NOT Christmas Eve.

quarentini · 09/11/2020 22:35

Mine are already wrapped and good to go straight under the tree once it's up

FedUpWithBriiiiick · 09/11/2020 22:39

Christmas Eve, Scrooged on the tv, bottle of Prosecco.

The wrapping gets progressively worse as the evening goes on...

worriedwellworrier · 09/11/2020 22:39

I pay a local teenager £20 to do it all. It’s the most genius thing I’ve ever done. Hoping covid won’t put a stop to it this year!

purpledagger · 09/11/2020 22:41

I buy presents throughout the year, but often find myself wrapping presents late on Christmas Eve.

I'd prefer to get the wrapping done early, but we don't get much child free time, so I fit it in when I can.

TrickyD · 09/11/2020 22:44

I intended to wrap a few things this evening, but serious absence of sellotape stopped that idea.

jambeforeclottedcream · 09/11/2020 22:46

Wrap all in one go but a few days beforehand. With a glass of wine or 2 and Love Actually on in the background as i'm swearing in time with Bill Nighy at the sellotape

user1471530109 · 09/11/2020 22:48

I've just bought a load of reusable drawstring bags to use. I hate wrapping (used to live it and go to town). But I just don't have the time now. I've no idea where to store them all though. I don't put them under the tree as Santa brings the lot (despite them being from family and me) all Christmas morning. Makes it a huge pain.

ItsmineAllmine · 09/11/2020 22:50

We wrap everything on Christmas Eve. Put kids to bed, open wine, watch shite xmas telly and wrap everything in one go. Could not be arsed doing it in dribs and drabs as I buy - everything gets hidden away until it's time to wrap and lay round the tree.

pinkksugarmouse · 09/11/2020 22:53

I will probably do it over a couple of nights in mid December. I can't do it all at once because of the arthritis in my hands.
I don't have a huge number to wrap and there is nothing heavy, bulky or oddly shaped thankfully.

TimeToCloseTheDoor · 09/11/2020 23:00

I start buying in Aug. 3 D.C. 1 DH no family on either sides.

I have an excel spreadsheet detailing what I’ve ordered, when it’s arrived and where I’ve hidden it and each parcel is checked and labelled before being hidden.

Once the main bargain hunt is delivered it is wrapped and re hidden and nearer the time it all comes out for bows and ribbons before being placed under the tree.

Stockings presents are wrapped in tissue paper or sweetie bags

And secret Santa lucky dip is put together on Xmas Eve. Love it

elQuintoConyo · 09/11/2020 23:00

Neither.

School breaks up on 18th, I finish on 17th, so we'll wrap while DC at school.

I use big squares of fabric and drawstring bags for the gifts. Stocking gifts aren't wrapped, the stocking itself is the wrapper.

Fabric wrapping is now in its 6th year. I really don't miss wrapping paper, and I used to love it!

didireallysaythat · 09/11/2020 23:01

Christmas Eve. I get everything out of the wardrobes and make DH, who hasn't bought any of it and hasn't got a clue about any of it, to wrap everything (for our two boys). Including the stockings. I hate doing stockings....

DrFoxtrot · 09/11/2020 23:02

I once wrapped on Christmas morning before the kids came back from their dad Shock.
